Chapter 30
Monday, December 20, 2010 – The Field's house
After the funeral, Emily brought the devastated, blonde to her house and helped Alison upstairs and tucked the blonde into her bed. She was so physically and mentally exhausted that when her head hit the pillow she was out. Emily sits down gently next to her and lightly strokes her hair before kissing her forehead softly as not to disturb her.
She carefully pulls her phone from her pocket, conscientious not to wake the blonde. She shoots off a quick text to Jake.
She pretty much passed out as soon as her head hit the pillow. Let us know how it goes.
~Em
Jake stayed for the visitation the day before but he had to return to Virginia for a few more scans as he had promised his mom he would try to see if there were any more options.
Thanks, darlin', I should know more hopefully before the New Year.
~Jake
Emily lays down next to the sleeping blonde and Alison rolls over searching for her with a whimper.
"I'm here Ali." She says pulling the petite blonde into her strong arms and kissing her forehead. "I love you so much, Ali..." She murmurs.
"Em..." She sighs as she snuggles into the swimmer's chest.
The Marin's house
Hanna was sitting in the kitchen finishing up a paper for her English final when there was a loud knock at her front door.
"I'll get it!" Hanna yells to her mom as she makes her way to the front door.
When she opens it, a smug-faced Darren Wilden greats her. "Evening, Hanna,"
"Wilden..." She says with disdain.
"May I come in?" He says raising an eyebrow. " I have a few questions."
"Detective Wilden, to what do WE owe the pleasure?" Ashley Marin asks with a bit of snark as she makes her way down the stairs.
"I'm sure you heard about the murder of Mrs. DiLaurentis..."
"We were just at her funeral as a matter of fact," Ashley said cutting him off.
"Yes well, we think the murder of Ms. Vanderwaal and Mrs. DiLaurentis may be linked." He says flipping open a small notebook.
"And what does this have to do with my daughter?" She asks cutting to the chase.
"Well, she was there when the body was discovered behind the Kahn's cabin." He tells her.
"Are you implying my daughter had something to do with them?!" She asks accusingly.
"No of course not... she is more into shoplifting!" He says pointedly.
Ashley looks around, checking to make sure no one heard him and opens the door wider for him to come in. She leads him into the kitchen and Hanna sends a quick group text to the girls.
Hanna: Wilden is here asking questions.
Aria: What?! What does he want?
Hanna: I think he's just poking around...
Spencer: Just be careful what you say... Don't mention A...
Aria: We don't need to give A any more ammo.
"Han, can you please put your phone up." She asks with a terse smile.
The blonde nods as she slips her phone back in her pocket and sits down next to her mother.
"Alright," Wilden says as he clicks his pen, "Do you know who would have had a motive to kill Ms. Vanderwaal and Mrs. DiLaurentis
"Not that I know of... I know that Mr. and Mrs, DiLaurentis had problems but he would never... hurt her or anything. Plus, I don't think he and Ms. Vanderwaal have ever met."
"How did you happen to find Ms. Vanderwaal?" He asks scribbling something down.
"I already told the police... Emily heard music coming from the woods while we were going through the maze/" She says getting frustrated.
"And how was she killed?" He asks.
"She was shot through the back of the head... Look I already told the police all of this..." She says as she storms out of the room.
"Shall I walk you out?" Ashley asks as she stands.
He grabs her hand, "Maybe I'll stay..." He says with a smirk. "And we can keep Hanna's extracurricular activities between the two of us..."
Monday, December 21, 2010- Rosewood High
Emily tried to convince Alison to take another day off from school but she had argued that they had already missed too much school. It was also the last day before winter break. plus they also had two more finals for the semester and they were worth 40% of their grade. At this point, they were barely making it through their Junior year so it was especially important for them to ace their finals.
They had agreed to meet the girls in the quad before school to check-in. As the blonde and the swimmer make their way to one of the tables Spencer waved them over with her cup of coffee.
"Hey, I got you an americano." She says as she hands Emily a cup.
"And I got you a herbal tea." She tells Alison with a small smile.
"Thanks, Spencer." She says returning the smile.
A half-asleep Hanna makes her way over to the small group and grunts a greeting as the smart brunette hands her a coffee cup.
"Double-shot." She tells her.
"Hastings I love you." She mutters as she takes a swig.
"Late night.." She says with a knowing look.
"Stupid finals..." She grumbles as she downs the rest.
"Hey!" Aria says all bubbly as Spencer passes her the last cup.
She takes a sip and smiles. "Soy latte my favorite."
As they were all getting settled around the table an all too familiar and frustrating voice cuts through the group.
"Good morning, ladies." He says in a condescending tone.
"Wilden..." Hanna says not masking the disdain in her voice.
"I just need to ask you all a few questions." He states as he pulls out his small notebook once again.
"We've answered all yours and the police's questions. What else do you want?" Hanna huffs out.
"I just think it's kind of strange that anytime there is a police "situation" that one or all five you seem to be involved." He states with a sneer.
"Well maybe if you and Rosewoods finest would stop questioning my friends and me incessantly, you could get some actual leads." Spencer counters as the bell rings for first. hour.
Alison grabs her bag and tries to grab Emily's hand to back out the side door when Wilden catches them out the corner of his eye. He grabs her bag and starts to rifle through it.
"Are you trying to hide something, Ms. DiLaurentis?"
"Give it back!" Emily demands as Alison starts to get upset, tears pricking her eyes.
"We need to go to class," Aria says standing between the two trying to break the tension.
Hanna makes her way to the doorway when Wilden rounds on them. "NO ONE is going ANYWHERE!" He yells his temper flaring.
Just then Mrs. Hastings made her way through the quad.
Veronica sees Detective Wilden. "If this is the school's idea of keeping my child safe, I'm glad I came to drop off something." She says glowering at him.
Spencer makes her way over to her mother, who hands her a folder with her English paper final she had left in her rush to leave for school this morning. Veronica notices Alison was crying and hiding behind Emily's shoulder. "Honey, why is she crying? " She asks in concern.
"He came to question all of us again," Spencer explains.
"What?!" She asks incredulously.
"He was also going through her bag," Aria adds.
"Hold it. Hold it. You're questioning minors without an adult present? What police department do you work for? What century are you in?" Veronica asks in utter disbelief.
Wilden looks at her angrily. "Ma'am, I would advise you..."
Mrs. Hastings cuts him off, "Oh, no, I would advise you to back off, because anything that they've said to you is inadmissible in a courtroom, period."
"Let's go." She tells the girls
"Ali, honey, grab your things." She tells the blonde as she walks by her.
"What were you thinking?" She shoots at Wilden with a disgusted look.
"I have two homicides to solve, okay?" He growls back at her.
" Not anymore you don't. You're done. You're done. You're done with this investigation unless you want to face me down with opposing counsel." She says as she ushers the girls into the hall.
"So, what's gonna happen to him?" Aria asks upset.
" Can they get him off the force?" Hanna asks curiously.
"If he's smart, he'll leave before that happens." Mrs. Hastings explains as she looks to her daughter.
"Thank you so much mom for bringing my paper on your way to work," Spencer says with relief.
"Yes, thank you, Mrs. Hastings," Alison says with a little smile of gratitude.
Saturday. December 25, 2010 – Emily's room
Emily had gotten up super early and snuck downstairs to the kitchen to make a huge surprise breakfast that she planned to serve the blonde in bed. She made pancakes, eggs, and bacon and poured her a glass of juice. She carefully balanced the two trays as she made her way up the stairs and gently pushed open the door trying not to wake her sleeping girlfriend. She sets the trays down on her desk and makes her way to the bed sitting next to Alison's sleeping form. She leans down and softly kisses her forehead then each of her closed eyes and then her nose as the blonde giggles. She lands on her perfect heart-shaped lips were she lingers for a bit, a gentle meeting of lips not pushing for more.
"Morin"': Alison says sleepily.
"Morning gorgeous." The swimmer says with a cheeky smile. "I have a surprise for you."
"You didn't have to." She says as she pushes herself up in bed.
"Anything for you," Emily says as she grabs the two trays, handing one to Ali and then making her way to the other side of the bed.
"Everything looks amazing." She says with a smile as she digs in.
She keeps moaning as she eats and Emily giggles as she blushes.
"What?" Alison asks around a mouthful of food.
"Nothing... it's just if you keep making those noises we're never going to get out of this bed." The swimmer says wiping some syrup off Ali's chin and then licking her finger.
Alison laughs, "What about you and what you just did."
"I didn't do anything." She says playing innocently.
"Uh-huh, sure," Alison says with a smirk.
"Oh shush and eat... or you won't get your other surprise," Emily says teasingly.
"Another surprise... Emily Fields I do believe you are spoiling me too much," She says sweetly.
"You deserve it, always." She says kissing her tenderly. "Now hurry up and finish."
They finished eating in relative silence as Alison continued to make noises while eating and Emily kept blushing while giggling at her. After finishing, Emily ran the dishes down to the kitchen and made her way back upstairs.
She smiles as she heads to her closet and pulls out a couple of presents, all nice and neatly wrapped. "These are for you." She says with a goofy smile.
"Em..." She says her eyes shining with tears. "I don't have anything to give you."
"Ali, that's not true,: She says as she sits next to her. " You give me all of your self and that is the best gift ever."
"You don't have to say that..."
Emily gently puts her finger to Alison's lips to quiet her. "I'm not just saying it to make you feel better, I truly mean it. Now please open your gifts."
Alison carefully starts to unwrap the first gift and Emily starts to get restless. "What's wrong, babe?"
"Just tear into it already." She says excitedly.
"But you wrapped it so nicely, it looks like your mom could've done it." The blonde says with a smile.
"Are you calling me my mother?!" She asks slightly offended.
"Tell me this doesn't look like a "Mrs. Fields" job?" Alison says raising an eyebrow as she points out the perfectly creased seams.
Emily rolls her eyes and chuckles a little, "Just open it already."
She opens the first one and pulls out a beautifully bond baby book and she gives the brunette a water smile. "Em... It's gorgeous!"
She opens the other one and pulls out a few dresses and onesies, there is also a mobile, with clouds, stars, and little elephants on them. "They were mine, my mom kept them in the attic." The swimmer says with a wide grin.
"They're perfect, thank you, mermaid." She says leaning over and meshing their lips together in a sweet kiss.
As they part Alison caresses her cheek, "Next time we go out I want to take you somewhere special for your gift.
