Hi guys.
I know this comes a bit sudden and probably way too late, but I simply wanted to tell you that I'm hereby putting an official end to Gate - and so a Neuntöter fought there.
(Audience boos)
Yes, yes, I know. Calm down.
The reasons of this decision are many, but I'll try to break it down to you so you may understand why I'm putting an end to this story.
First of all, the probably most important factor when writing is inspiration. There might as well be factors like a personal opinion on the franchises used like for example how I'll never write something about No Game, No Life or Warhammer or Problem Children come from another World, because I seriously can't stand those series in not even a single aspect other than some of the concepts behind them.
But this is not the case for either Gate or Tokyo Ghoul. I really like both series and followed them until their respective endings, though I must confess that I didn't see that much in Tokyo Ghoul:re, if it hadn't been for turning up the brightness of the screen by a lot to be honest. Seriously, who makes the show literally so dark that you can't even tell what's going on? I sat there for 15 minutes watching a mostly black screen and asked myself, who was actually talking when the subtitles popped up.
So anyway, what happened?
The reason why my updates gained more and more of their viscosity with the passing years was because the inspiration of the stories was still fresh at the beginning and later that wasn't the case anymore. The ideas came and I simply wrote down everything. Then I made the mistake to make multiple long time projects and now I'm sitting on about 20 of them. Problem with that is basically that I was too afraid to lose potentially good ideas so instead of putting them aside for later, I just uploaded everything.
Keeping up with the uploads of new chapters eventually became impossible and slowly but surely it became more difficult to recall and understand previous ideas to the point were writting anything down became forced and almost painful. Painful in the sense of an headache forming when you just try to figure out how to keep the plot moving in any sort of way, no matter how without making it look weird. I was literally having a staring contest with the chapter back then and unfortunately the fanfiction won. Plus I always wanted the new thing to keep going like one would spend more time with something they just got to their birthday and have to play with it, instead of picking up one of their older games.
So due to not only my own miscalculations, but also my new duties in University I ended up with less and less free time to write and thus became incapable of doing so out of my own Volition. And eventually it ended up being just a pain.
That was a mistake in behavior on my side and I apologize for that sincerely.
Tokyo Ghoul and Gate were discovered by myself in the same year, leading to the crossover idea to be born inside my head. Back then I had way more free time and spent most of my time either watching anime online or reading books. I simply had the time to do so. But with the end of the Gate anime adaptation with season 2 and the long wait for Tokyo Ghoul:re, the story lost ist nutrients and slowly wilted away like a flower.
The second reason is the setting. The basic point of the setting was based on the idea that ghouls can infiltrate military like they did with society as a whole. After all, the Tsukiyama's had quite a lot of even politicial power in Japan so why not being soldiers? Now with more knowledge equipped about the Tokyo Ghoul canon universe, I know now that it is impossible. If the Gate really had opened in Ginza of the Tokyo Ghoul Earth, it would be completely impossible for a ghoul to join military ranks. At least without any help that is.
But not only that, but since Ginza would be on the 2nd ward, meaning in CCG controlled territory, the presence of a ghoul would be quite easy to detect and we all know what would happen then. While the ending of :re probably would have given the story a much better starting point, it wasn't out when I wrote this story so I think we can overlook this one. However, the fact remains that I pretty much Gary Stu'd my OC's way not only into Ginza once, but thrice. Not to mention the army in the first place.
But even that can be excused as an AU universe setting and a product of the limitless Imagination a human being does possess.
Still, though with the last chapter concluding the rest of Season 1, I also find myself rather strained when it comes to continuation of the story to the point where I almost don't see it at all. I simply have taken a turn into a dead end and now I can't get out anymore. The only way to do so would require me to completely rewrite the entire Story, which due to my lack of Inspiration is not possible in my perspective.
Also with the end of season 1 in this story I think the ending is pretty rounded up. I know Gate is a finished Story. I know where I could read the whole series and try to somehow save it, but I personally think it's better this way to end it before things get really weird.
And finally we come to the last factor I want to say. The third reason for me to quit is myself.
I know. I know. I doesn't make much sense, but which person actually does?
No but seriously for now, I personally have changed a lot in the last 3 years. Not exactly to a better person or to something I'd call myself proud of. Personally, I hate myself for giving up on one of my stories that I put so much work, blood, sweat and tears into (again), especially since I vowed to not become one of those writers, but it seems that I have become the very thing I didn't want to.
Things inside me have changed from the naive highschool child. My values and thoughts have changed a lot. Basically I almost find it impossible to even identify myself with my own creation Hitoshi Mori anymore. Plus the fact that I didn't watch Gate in a long time and that I can't really watch as much anime anymore as back then to refill my knowledge put a real blockade to this. With other words, keeping to write this story is no longer possible for myself.
I'm very sorry for that everyone.
And now as a small compensation for you having to start this with me annoucing the discontinuity of this story and to destroy the rounded up ending I just pointed out as a reason to quit, here is the long awaited 12th chapter. Whether you see it as canon or not is your decision.
(By the way, the title was the result of a typing mistake, but I just stuck with it because I thought it looked cool X3)
Gate: And so a Neuntöter fought
Chapter 11: End of FLight
It has been 5 months now since the battle of Italica and the little trip to Tokyo for the guests of the Special Region took place. The situation in the Empire and Alnus was still on high alert, even though there had been no attack from the Empire since the attacks shortly after the JSDF's arrival. Slowly people calmed down about the strangers from another world as they got used to their presence. A lot of people had lost their homes during the war despite the fact that the JSDF only attacked in self-defense instead of aggressive conquer and spreading its territory, but then again was a giant flame dragon flying around, burning villages and devouring whatever was within its path.
These refugees packed their things and started to move to Alnus as well as began to settle down in close proximity to the Gate. Probably it was due to the rumors spreading that the "Men in Green" as they were still called by the natives had not only managed to repel the Dragon once, but also to cut off one of its limbs. Soon had a small town emerged around the hexagonal base with small houses and broad streets to let wagons and jeeps drive around. Though Japan's government didn't plan this turn of events, it was certainly playing in their hands. Therefore, they started to help the settlers with building homes and built a sewer and water network for the entire base. The reason why the government was going so far for complete strangers was not the kindness of their hearts, but a much more important factor.
Merchants traveled to Alnus as well once they got wind about the new town being founded there. At first people had been supplied with all goods from the gate as Alnus was still a military base and couldn't support too many people on its own. Also merchants have been rather hesitating when they heard of the base that the army from the other side of the Gate had set up. However, curiosity got the better of them and there were also other factors that made the position in Alnus very attractive for the merchants. The goods of everyday's life from Earth were due the very low technological advancement of the Saderan Empire quite high in quality when compared to the own wares and therefore merchants could have asked for ridiculously high prices for such items as they were also very rare.
However, the dream of lots of money in short time quickly dispersed like fog in summer as the people of Falmart had to realize that all citizen of Japan received a minimum of education which made it in return impossible for merchants to gamble their prices with the soldiers. Also the further selling of goods from Earth was very restricted as it might cause some problems in the future. Who did profit from this relationship was the JSDF itself as merchants had to drive around the land in their wagons to get their wares from one place to another and could gather lots of information first hand by simply talking with their customers and travelling.
However, even this peaceful time would come to an end. And one person couldn't settle down.
Training room of the JSDF
Hitoshi Mori, the only ghoul in the ranks of the JSDF, was not even close to be as enthusiastically as his friends about the recent developments. He knew that now with the battle between both forces having cooled down, it would mean that less people died and that meant there were less corpses to harvest and that was bad for his hunger, health and sanity. Ghouls normally could go with about a month without eating, making it harder to detect them and easier for mankind to regrow in numbers. After all, there needed to be more prey than predators on the long run.
But now he was surrounded by humans and the eatable demi-human races of the Special Region. First Hitoshi suppressed it with all his will power, but now he was sure that he started to go insane because he needed meat. But that wasn't the only problem. Despite the calm situation and the negotiations between Japan and princess Pina Co Lada, the tension was still as explosive as a pile of gunpowder. One spark and all the efforts of the JSDF to make peace with the Saderan Empire would be for nothing.
Hitoshi had to go on several missions outside Alnus to kill and eat in order to stay undetected. If the JSDF knew about his true nature it wouldn't take Long before the CCG would show up to eliminate him. So he went on missions and requests from other people, that involved killing people. It were mostly bandits, but unfortunately even an imperial civilian had to die for him to satisfy his stomach once. However, he couldn't mourn for this innocent person that had died. It wasn't something that could be changed anyway. He may didn't like it, but Hitoshi was old enough to not be naive like a child about this fact and regret it.
He was the predator and they were the prey. No matter how much he struggled against it, it was the undeniable truth, that he was a being that needed to sustain itself by the deaths of others by eating other sentient beings. In order to not completely lose it he distracted himself with something else.
BAM
The sound of something hitting something else with great speed resonated through the small room. Inside stood Hitoshi with his shirt student Myuute, a siren, which had been a bandit during the battle in Italica. However unlike in their first fight now it was Hitoshi that got a clawed foot in the face. Indeed, had the little siren managed to outrun him and to land a blow on his face.
Hitoshi leaned backwards as the siren pulled her foot out his face. Hitoshi wasn't hurt by her Talons as his ghoul physique allowed him to take most blows that were lethal for humans and shrug them off as if they were nothing. If he was human he probably now had some bloody cuts in his face, but other than that nothing. He walked over to the sideline and took a towel, that he had hung over there earlier, to wipe his face with it.
"You did great, Myuute. For a short girl like yourself that is." Hitoshi said, not really meaning it. Touka wasn't much taller than the siren after all and he had learned the hard way that size wasn't everything. Myuute still felt proud at herself and decided to ignore the last part.
"Wouldn't been possible without a good trainer." She said. Hitoshi threw a water bottle at her, which she caught with ease. Her reflexes and physical strength had increased a lot. After being used to high-speed attacks by the ghoul Hitoshi slowed down a bit. The change from getting beaten up to dodging most times was immense. Myuute wasn't able to achieve the same speed as a ghoul, but she had good natural reflexes and with his training she had become a good close combat fighter, though she wasn't as good as Shino or Touka yet. "So I was wondering sensei..." Myuute said suddenly. Hitoshi looked at her with a raised eyebrow. Her cheeks were slightly pink and she looked nervously to her feet. "I'm going to the bar in the town tonight. Maybe we could go together." She said in a quite tone.
"Sorry, but my team has a mission in the capital in a few hours from now on and I have to go there as well. I'm really sorry." Hitoshi said, being completely oblivious to the face expression of the smaller siren. Myuute waved him off.
"Don't be. I know that the work here is important." She said. Still Hitoshi could see a bit of disappointment in her face. It reminded him of Touka when she was small. He wondered how she was doing. Ever since the trip to Tokyo he hadn't been able to contact her and for safety reasons he couldn't use his cellphone to search in the internet. With other words he had no idea what was going on and he was worried that something might have happened to his family. Shaking his head, he walked out the training room followed by his pupil. Bringing her to her hut had become a routine for the two of them.
People started gossiping about the two already, thanks to Rory, who more than ever was annoying and simply disgusting in Hitoshi's mind. She may look like a 13-year-old, but she was almost a thousand years old and still acted like some spoiled brat. Now the ghoul wasn't the best one to judge people, but he had the idea that such a long life and immortality did quite the job on her sanity. As the people of various species looked at the two of them and whispered among on another he only gave them a glance once or twice making them stop for about 3 seconds, before they returned to what they did before, shaking in fear.
"Well then I'll be away for a while then." Hitoshi said. "Take care."
"I will." Myuute said as her teacher walked off. Somehow she didn't felt like going to the bar tonight.
At the next day, Imperial Capital Sadera
The entire 3rd recon Team was assembled in front of the imperial garden; the place were Sugawara had planned a banquet with the noble families to gain their aid in political discussions in the empire about the JSDF. However, the whole situation wasn't even close to tense, because the entire team laughed about one person. Even the normally always stoic Akira couldn't help but almost burst into laughter. Hitoshi on the other hand didn't hold back and burst into laughing right away.
"Itami put the hat down." Hitoshi said after he made a few pictures with his cellphone.
"W-why?" Itami sweatdropped.
"Because it looks like a giant yellow pile of shit on top of your head. Now put it down. Hahaha. I'll die laughing!" He said as he showed Itami the picture. Itami himself already knew how he looked like. In the moment he wore white and red robes and this stupid 'crap hat' as Hitoshi labeled it. Quickly he took the hat down and carried it with one Hand.
"I'm going to make the ones responsible pay." Itami muttered.
"Look Mama! He looks like an idiot!" the son of some noble woman said pointing at Itami, before the woman dragged her son off. Hitoshi almost fell backwards because he was laughing so hard as he just lost it at the boys words.
"Mori contain yourself!" barked Kuwahara, but Hitoshi couldn't stop laughing.
"I-I'm sorry. Ha-ha. But he looks so stupid. Hahaha!" Hitoshi's laugh must have been contagious, because not 10 seconds later the entire team started to laugh, even Itami. "Alright, alright. I get it." Hitoshi finally said as he calmed down. Itami shot him a deadly look for a second though as he clearly saw that Hitoshi sent the pictures to his ex-wife. Oh how much she must be laughing right now.
(In the span of a day the picture of Itami wearing his outfit was all around the globe with thousands of likes and shares.)
"Everyone here they come." Itami said. The team stopped laughing and looked at all the carriages. All of them housed another noble family to bring them here and to convince them to stop the fighting. A humanitarian mission if one would call organizing and running a banquet of the rich people such a thing.
'Hopefully everything goes right. I don't want to throw someone out again.' Hitoshi thought.
Earlier this week
SLAP
Some customer of a certain had just crossed the line as he had reached for the butt of a certain brunette warrior bunny waitress.
"Your hands don't belong anywhere near my behind." The waitress yelled angry. She was one of the maids of the formal family from Italica called Deliah. The drunken man wanted to stand up again as suddenly a foot was planted on his back and his arms were twisted behind his back. He turned around and saw Myuute holding him in an arm lock. Next to him stood Hitoshi looking down at the man.
"Sorry for the ruckus miss." The ghoul said to Delia, before turning back to the man. "So my friend. Might I ask what you planned to do back there?" He said in a dangerous tone. "You know as long as you live here you also have to respect the laws and sexual harassment is something that's not prohibited around here. So, mind if we have a nice little talk in the interrogation room?" Hitoshi was surrounded by his death aura in that moment making everyone shiver at the sight of the ghoul having his innocent smile on his face.
Myuute sweatdropped at his teacher's antics as she felt a slight pang of fear.
'He's really scary sometimes.' She thought with an awkward smile on her face.
Later
Ah sweet, sweet memories. Good times. At least for Hitoshi because that was the first time Myuute had captured someone who was bigger than herself like that. He was so proud of his little student. It wasn't what Yomo would have made out of her in that time though, but he was still very content with the progress she had made. Then again she was not a ghoul. Though he really had to be careful. In the last months he already had a few moments where he had almost been crushed beneath the pressure that his hunger and bloodlust was applying on him. And the temptation to take a bite out of her legs had been there, while his ghoul side wondered if she would taste like what poultry would taste like for humans.
The battles with the Empire had come to a halt as negotiations were taking place behind the curtains of the rooms of lords and ladies. That meant however that no one else died and that Hitoshi only rarely could eat fresh meat, which satisfied his hunger the most. For the last two months he had to dig up corpses and even hunt on his own only to make sure that all evidences of the criminal case didn't point at him or the JSDF. Good thing that he used knifes instead of firearms. Scavenging on suicide victims had made him quite skilled when it came to taking a dead body apart and making the remains disappear.
Anyway, Itami and his comrades showed off with a few of their firearms as they destroyed imperial armors and shields with their assault rifles. The nobles, which were by Hitoshi's notice all men, who held the power due the really underdeveloped system of society that they lived in, looked terrified and in awe at the destructive power of the for them futuristic weapons. After a short demonstration they already started to cling on Itami, asking how they created firearms or if they could buy any of them. They even started to offer quite a lot of money.
'Yeah like they could even use them against us, before shooting in their own feet or heads first.' Hitoshi sweatdropped as he saw the men clinging to Itami, who quickly started to show the nobles the mortars. The expressions on the nobles' faces was priceless. Oh what he could give to show this Touka and Ayato. The thought of his siblings made him sad, but there was no turning back now. He'd have to wait until the war with the Empire was over before he could return home and even then he would make sure he wasn't caught by the CCG afterwards. And that put him constantly on edge.
If he was caught it was clear that Itami would sing and the he could be sentenced to death. He was worried. He really was worried about that idiot's safety. That and the safety of the others, because the other members of the 3rd recon Team might sing as well. Not Shino, she would just call the CCG to hunt him down. Even after all this time she still behaved like he shot her puppy or her sister or ate someone she loved and cared about. And since she didn't bother to talk it out of the world, he wasn't either. Whenever he brought the topic up she reacted cold and moved away.
He sighed as he kept watching the nobles almost undressing Itami by tugging on his robes. That was as Sugawara arrived and distracted the nobles. He couldn't say anything bad about the politician, but he didn't want him to find out about his species either as he was sure that a loyal person to his country won't hesitate to tell the world what Hitoshi really was. Then Itami suddenly began to bark orders. "We retreat to point B. Get the equipment and clean up."
"Roger!" Hitoshi and the other soldiers said as they took the mortars and loaded them into the jeeps. 'I ask myself what's going on that we have to retreat.' he asked himself. The convoy of cars then moved away from the demonstration place and drove to the city once more.
Later in the Slums of the imperial capital Sadera
After 2 agonizing hours of guarding nobles, the way to the capital and driving said nobles home, Hitoshi finally arrived at his new post. He had accompanied Kurata and Mari to the slums of Sadera while Itami, Kuribayashi, Tomita and Sugawara paid the mansion of Pina a visit. The slums lived up to their name. Everywhere was garbage and it stunk everywhere like drugs mixed with vomit, sweat and other body fluids. Hitoshi had actually to look a few times away to prevent himself to look at half naked demi-human women, that obviously were prostitutes. This was basically Sadera's red light district. It wasn't the first time that he was here as Hitoshi had helped cleansing some gang who controlled the area around here. It was quite helpful that this was a law free area since whenever he came here Hitoshi could feed on not very careful thieves, rapists and the like.
Once they had known about the JSDF being here they tried to place an example, but let's just say that firearms and kagunes were a bit superior to bow and arrow and swords and maces. It was also a very good opportunity to eat something again though it didn't taste so well. Still Hitoshi wasn't used to this place. Especially not to the prostitutes.
Shaking the thought out of his head he tried to concentrate on the task ahead. The goal of this whole mission was to help people with medical treatment to gain their trust and gather new sources of information. A simple look at the Empire's technological level would have made some people probably either laugh at their backwater methods or cry in pity for their poor lifestyle. Hitoshi really didn't care at all for this. He was just happy that he would at least get something to bite at the end of this day.
Among the people that knew about his true species within the JSDF were only Itami, Akira and Shino, not including Tuka, Leilei and Rory as they were not part of the JSDF. Still the threat of not only his but the safety of all his friends was on stake at this Point. If anyone else knew about this, they would inform the CCG in no time without any doubt. And once they would have him they would...
'No goddamnit! Stop thinking like that!' He mentally berated himself. 'Touka is a big girl. She'll be alright. And the others have already faced worse than these Aogiri punks. Not to mention old man Yoshimura. Still, when I'm not with them... Huh, I guess the home sickness is back again.' Hitoshi thought. He had been like this for the last time when he had left Anteiku for their ow good. Back then a part of him screamed, clawed and bit to get back home. But he knew that he couldn't do that. And now there was the same Feeling around the others he had grown close to. Damn he was getting sentimental.
Before he knew it he and the others had arrived in a small house within Akusho, where the JSDF was working. The ghoul understood the situation perfectly. Earlier he had helped the soldiers to take care of that scumbag Besara and his minions. They might have tasted a bit rotten due the alcohol in their blood, but still not too bad. What could he say in his defense? He was a ghoul after all.
"So you are here for the medical treatment? Good to see a new face here." The superior of the house said.
"Yes!" Mari said, straightening her back in the process. The older man's eyes fell on the ghoul, who tried to not glare at the older man when his eyebrows narrowed a little.
'Geez. What's wrong with me? Did I just turn into my stupid younger older idiot of a brother?' He thought.
(Meanwhile in Tokyo, Ayato sneezed out of the blue, while feeling an incredible bloodlust paired with annoyance worm itself into his mind. That was until he felt an even greater bloodlust from elsewhere, which he couldn't see the source of. Touka's elder sister omnipotence had been activated.)
"I heard you are only assigned here for the stay of the other Team. Why come here then?" His superior asked the ghoul.
"Well, I'm Pretty sure they got their field covered and honestly I'd rather not stay the whole day with politicians. Until then, I guess I'll be helping out here where I can. Don't worry, I'll be gone soon enough anyway." Hitoshi said, while in the back of his mind he was kicking himself.
'Bullshit! And you know it Mori!' He thought. 'You are just so damn scared that this suit wearing guy would find out that you are a ghoul and get you and everyone on the JSDF arrested and sentenced to death for withholding your true nature. And why are you talking so casually to a higher ranked official. We might lose our rank we got back then through Promotion. Not that you care about that anyway.' As the older man's gaze bore deeper into the ghoul he felt himself sweating just a little more. The judging gaze reminded him of Yoshimura when he had been a child and accidentally spilled coffee on the floor. How had he been supposed to know that he held the thing upside down? 'Abort! Abandon ship!' His mind shouted until the man sighed.
"Very well. I'll see that you'll leave as soon as this operation is over. Good grief. Young people these days. Well then get to work." The superior said. Inwardly celebrating the ghoul saluted and got to work, though he really would need to get payback for being lumped together with some disrespectful brats that lived in this era. He had lots of respect. Maybe not for politicians or the army as a whole, but to certain individuals.
Hitoshi spend the day with checking patients for hidden weapons and open the door. It was quite a monotone job, but he somehow felt that Kurokawa was despite her calm look on the outside a bit tense. He remembered a certain event, that had happened just a few days ago.
Flashback
Kurokawa and Hitoshi were in an inn in the middle of the settlement that Alnus had become. Of course he didn't order something for himself, because of obvious reasons, but for his friends, that should arrive any moment now. Kurokawa however looked a bit confused at her colleague.
"Don't you want something?" she asked. Hitoshi smiled and waved her off.
"I'm fine." Hitoshi said.
"You know, I rarely see you eating anything and when I see you, you drink coffee. Perhaps I should check on the caffeine concentration in your blood." Mari said. Hitoshi would have started to sweat now if she would be an investigator of the CCG. But worst of all she suggested to take some of his blood, which wouldn't just be a fool proof, that he was a ghoul. First her needles wouldn't be able to go through his skin and second he couldn't kill her or tell her without the risk of her spilling out his secret. Again he brushed it off.
"Though I appreciate your concern, there is nothing wrong. We just need to be awake all the time." Hitoshi said. "After all we are still technically in war with the Empire." he whispered the last part. Mari sighed at this.
"I know, but I don't want to let these people stay in this state of being." she said. Hitoshi understood perfectly.
"Look, I know we have a huge Impact on this world, not just as a Military force, but also as bringers of technology, knowledge and many other things, but we cannot simply change this world to be as advanced as ours from one day to another. For that, we would have to conquer this whole place and then you could start with a reformation of something essential for the healthcare of the people here. Like an actually working sewer system." Hitoshi said.
"Still..." Mari said her eyes directed on the cup in front of her. Hitoshi sighed at this.
'This is worse than cheering up Touka. And that's already an accomplishment, when it would work.' Hitoshi thought. "Tomorrow you will go to the Slums and help People there, don't you? I know it's a criminal driven, refugee inhabited hell hole, but I guess that's a start to make it better, isn't it?" he said. Mari smiled slightly.
"Guess you're right." she said. "I wanted to talk about something with you and the others." Hitoshi raised an eyebrow as suddenly...
*SLAP* *CRASH*
A man was slapped out the inn by a familiar brunette bunny maid.
"Keep your filthy hands from my behind, you perv!" She yelled at the grounded and clearly drunken dwarf man. Hitoshi looked sweatdropping at the scene.
'Seriously Deliah? Again? Not that I'm complaining. You are looking good as a woman, but this is just absurd like Ayato's fear of insects.' He thought. Shortly after Itami came in with Kuwahara and Rory. Itami and Rory sat next to Hitoshi, who sat next to the window, while Mari and Kuwahara sat at the opposite side. A blonde fox tailed maid then brought the people 4 mugs of beer. For Hitoshi that was quite the assault on his nostrils, which burned by the stench. Then, however a certain blonde elf girl walked past the bar on the street, lost in her thoughts like always.
"Tuka?" Itami said to himself.
"Tuka!" Rory called out. The elf turned to them. "Are you looking for someone?" Rory asked.
"Y-yes something like that." Tuka replied.
"A man by any chance?" Rory asked with a very suggestive tone. This Girl annoyed Hitoshi a lot with that way of thinking and speaking.
"No, no." Tuka said, waving Rory off as she was continued her search.
"Is she still doing that?" Hitoshi asked.
"Yes. Every night she goes to town and searches for her dead father." Mari said.
"I know what you want to say, but..." Itami said.
"Do we really have to force her to see the truth?" Rory asked after taking a sip from her beer.
"Of course." Mari said. "Without accepting reality one cannot go into the future."
"Well, we kinda have waited long enough. When she still doesn't realize it yet, she probably never will on her own. You can't always live in the past. You need to move onwards and grow up to stand on your own feet." Hitoshi said.
"That might be, but..." Rory said.
"I know what you want to say, but do you know what will happen when we all go to her and say "Your father is dead."?" Itami asked.
"She will fall into extreme depression, cry her eyes out, try violently to denial the truth until her mind will shatter like glass, what will probably result in her attempting to commit suicide." Hitoshi said in his matter-of-fact voice. The others could only look at him. "What? You asked Youji and I've seen people like that before. Sooner or later she'll be forced to face reality. Whether we like it or not." Hitoshi said.
"If you know all this, how can you say it like you don't care at all?" Mari asked bewildered. Hitoshi simply shrugged.
"I don't care for the life of Tuka." He replied before he pointed at the members of the JSDF. "My job is it to bring YOU guys out of this mess we call war alive. After that comes my own life and after that the lives of civilians. That is my priority ranking. If you have a different one, it's fine by me, but don't expect me to drag out every single soul out of this swamp of bloodshed." He said in an ice-cold voice. Mari looked like she wanted to say something, but no word left her mouth. Even Itami was shocked at the coldness of his friend towards Tuka.
"Very well then I think I shall take my leave then." Mari said as she stood up followed by Kuwahara, leaving Hitoshi, Itami and Rory alone. Itami sighed.
"Man, you could have said that less cold, you know Mori?" he said.
"Really how about this then? 'Tuka is so mentally unstable, that the smallest proof that her little illusion of her father not being dead, is nothing but a delusion generated through her impressive yet stupid denial caused by a traumatic incident will eventually kill her by breaking her heart and losing the will to live.' Yeah I don't normally say these words a lot, but give up Itami. Tuka is a lost cause unless she finds from somewhere the strength to overcome this on her own." Hitoshi replied.
"Why are you saying this like she isn't your friend?" Itami said.
"Because she isn't." That took Youji off-guard. For a second or two he simply stared at the ghoul. "All the refugees are at best acquaintances to me. Also, do you honestly think we will be here for the rest of our lives?" Hitoshi asked. "Japan will suck this region dry from its resources and then throw it away like a used handkerchief, because we already have enough problems on our hands on the other side of the gate." Hitoshi's words struck deep inside Itami's mind as he began to think about what he had said. They wouldn't stay here forever that was obvious, but would that be so bad? Rory's voice tore both men out their conversation.
"960 years, huh." She said. "It was an eternity and yet it was so short."
'That's always when you think back to the time that has already past.' Hitoshi thought.
"I had a lot of meetings and as many times I had to say goodbye. And I have overcome it all." Rory said.
"Really?" Hitoshi asked. "You were even the same battle crazy lunatic, before you became a demigod?" he asked with a smirk. Rory simply smiled at that.
"That's no reason to be coldhearted." She said.
"I'm simply stating my opinion about you." Hitoshi replied. He didn't like Rory. Not one bit.
"Not everyone has the power to be nice." Itami said.
"Liar. Listen you should focus this power only at one person at a time. Then you two would be better with women." Rory said.
"You think?" Itami asked. Hitoshi only facepalmed at this.
"It's amazing how you can turn a serious conversation into this direction no matter what topic we are talking about." He sighed.
"To rule over death means to rule over life. Death is the climax of life. To have a satisfying death you need to dignify your life." Rory said, ignoring the ghoul. Normally Hitoshi would give not a damn about what Rory said, but the black annoyance actually had said something that made him think. However, that train of thoughts already stopped when Rory began to flirt with Itami.
"Be nice to me your spoilsport." She said clearly not drunk. Hitoshi wanted to grab her head and push her off Itami when suddenly...
"What's going on here?" A dark skinned cloaked woman said. A long ear perked out her hair showing that she was a dark elf. And she glared at Itami, Hitoshi and Rory. "Why does a child get alcohol in this bar?" Rory's face turned into a grimace as the word child fell.
"How dare you to ruin my plan for this evening?" She asked.
"Plan?" Itami asked. Then he got kicked against the foot by Rory, making him fall on the table, slightly screaming in pain (like a little girl). "What's going on?" He asked weakly.
"Rory tried to drag you into her lair and rape you all night long." Hitoshi deadpanned. Itami and Rory looked at him with a shocked expression on the face. "Was pretty obvious. But then again she was flirting with you Captain Oblivious."
"She what?!" Itami asked, when the dark elf spoke up.
"I'm Yao Ha Den." The woman declared.
'No one asked. No one cares.' Hitoshi thought as he rolled his eyes.
"A dark elf around 300 years old?" Rory said. "What do you want?"
"I came here because I heard the 'Men in Green' would be here. You two, why are you filling up that little girl? Are you perverts?" Yao asked.
"HUH?" Itami and Mori said in unison. Okay, now the ghoul took actually offense in the dark elf's world. Sure they were in a world that was even less technologically advanced than medieval Europe and certain morally inexcusable things that would make any first world citizen's skin crawl such as marrying children to partners that were at least a decade older for political reasons, slavery, public executions and probably many more Things could be considered normal in this world. However, while Hitoshi didn't give a damn if someone accused Itami to be a lolicon pervert, which the ghoul knew he wasn't (most of the time), accusing him of such a thing was as if this woman just insulted his foster family that he had in Anteiku.
In that moment Rory had an idea.
"Please save me! 'You don't want to drink anymore?' They shouted at me and forced me to..."
CHOP
Hitoshi silenced the demigoddess by simply chopping her again. He sighed at this. "You know what? I'm outta here." Hitoshi said before Yao blocked his path when she drew her sword and pointed it at Itami and Hitoshi.
"You go nowhere until I taught you a lesson about..."
CLATTER
Yao was cut off, when Hitoshi grabbed the sword and broke it in half with a flick of his hand. He then walked past the stupefied dark elf woman. "Point a weapon at my friend again and I'm going to break your arms, before dumping you in the next river." He whispered as he walked past Yao and put a bit of money on the counter next to Delia. "Sorry for the mess." He said before he put the broken blade into a trash can and left the bar. Yao eventually regained her senses when the door closed.
"What just happened?" she asked.
"You were taught a lesson not to mess with the 'Men in Green.'" Someone said loud.
"To bring a sword when one is looking for someone..." Someone else said. Yao looked back at the trash can where her blade was still leaning against the edge of the trash can. A fine elven sword, rendered to trash in no time. She then however realized something else. There were 2 men in green.
"In that case would you..." Yao stopped again when she saw that Itami and Rory had jumped out the window and dashed off. The dark elf woman stood there totally helpless.
Flashback Ends
The day went faster by then Hitoshi expected and in the evening no one came anymore to the JSDF, which was quite weird since they were still in the slums of Sadera. Either the people didn't trust the army enough yet to seek help or they couldn't because of the risk of being hurt when they left their homes. Still Kurokawa stayed at her desk and looked through documents.
"What are you reading?" Hitoshi asked.
"The list of sexually transmitted diseases of the Special Region and their symptoms." Kurokawa said without looking back, making the ghoul wince slightly at the thought of an alternative Version of some rather prominent STDs. Having them on Earth was bad enough, but now there was more.
"Is it because of the number of prostitutes around here or just curiosity as a paramedic?" Hitoshi asked, slightly irked by the subject. 'I know that's your job, but why not diseases in this world in general?'
"Both I would say. Hopefully, we will be helping people not just in the Empire with our medical knowledge." Kurokawa said. Hitoshi could ask himself how she could be so naive even though they were at war with the Empire and had no idea how long they would be staying. Hitoshi liked the idea of travelling to different worlds. After all it made him discover new alternative food sources. However, he wasn't really found to the idea that the Gate in Ginza would stay forever after what happened there when it showed up. He was sure that the Gate would disappear again. It wasn't a matter of if, but when. Or at least, he hoped so, otherwise his stay would become way more complicated. The ghoul wanted to leave the room when Mari spoke up. "Say Hitoshi, a few of my patients have complained about something during my shift." She said.
"About what?" Hitoshi raised an eyebrow.
"That you and our comrades are not receiving their duties." She said with a smile. Hitoshi huffed at that.
"Kurokawa, are you actually trying to hook me up with a hooker? Not just a Hooker, but a Hooker from another world that might not even be human?" He asked.
"Well, you seem to get along with Myuute well enough to assume that you and Itami share a certain 'preference' in such Things given you being well acquainted with one another." Mari said.
"Okay now I truly take offense in this Mari! Don't lump me together with that Otaku who barely got married at all by chance!" Hitoshi blurted out with a slight blush on his face!
"Also...you have no girlfriend as far as I know." Mari said, before she looked surprised. "Eh? Did you just say Itami was married?" Hitoshi smiled mischievously at this as he walked up to her and looked right into her face. The intrusion of her personal space made the paramedic blush slightly in embarrassment.
"And you got no boyfriend as far as I know. Or at least I'm not seeing a ring on that finger." He said leaning in a bit more. He could literally hear Mari's heartbeat accelerating, before sudden standing up straight again and turning away from her still flustered face. "And probably you'll never have one as you spend your time saving others." He said laughing at her face that showed a variety of emotions ranging from downright embarrassment to anger. "Plus as far as I remember from that sitcom patient and doctor shouldn't be dating."
Suddenly someone knocked at the door of the building. Immediately both soldiers dropped the situation and grabbed their weapons, before going to the door. The other soldiers in the Building also got ready for an attack. After all, this was a lawless part of Sadera. "Who's there?" Kurokawa asked, leaning against it, ready to fire at anyone who wanted to enter it without permission.
"It's Mizari." The voice of a woman said. Mari opened the door and soon a lot of humanoid women came inside. Hitoshi had already known a few species, but a few were new ones as well. Mizari for example was a winged humanoid with white feathered wings on her back. She had an hourglass shaped body and long blonde hair which was without a doubt helpful in her profession, if you wanted to call it that. The two soldiers let the woman inside as a certain Kurata almost died due a heart attack as all his dreams of being surrounded by monster girls came true.
Hitoshi looked at the man with disgust and pity from the sidelines, before making the mental note to let him either fail in his relationship with Persia by showing how easily this man could be swayed by the Looks of other humanoid Girls or to remind him of Persia to stop him. But not now. Now he'd let that man-child have his Dream come true… Though the look of a grown up man having the same face as a child in a candy store was both creepy and unsettling to the Point where the ghoul found it tempting to use Touka's education Methods to put the man back in line. If necessary with a foot shoved up his butt… and his boots had steel caps.
Soon after the women had settled in the JSDF's outpost and made themselves comfortable, their superior from earlier showed up and asked the women what the matter was.
"My village is located near to a volcano. Every time before an eruption happened I get this trembling feeling. Since today midday I got it again." A siren replied. Hitoshi looked around the women that had come to them. Twitching ears and tails, people that fumbled with their fingers around or shivered was all he saw. It was a bit surprising that only women had come and not men. Itami would have a damn field day here right now like Kurata did. Then he realized something.
'Don't tell me...' he thought, when the pieces came together. All the humanoids around here were part animal. No that was sounding weird and offensive. All of them possessed traits that regular animals had as well. And animals reacted way better to environmental changes then humans and ghouls, because they lost these traits during their evolution. To be honest, not even ghoul that happened to be scientists had any idea how ghoulkind evolved in the first place, but most People didn't even bother with that. Anyway, unusual behavior of animals usually was an indicator of something big happening. Like how large herds of terrestrial animals and swarms of birds would flee from an area when they sensed danger. And with what this woman just said it was clear what would happen.
"Back at my old working place made all animals a ruckus before a strong earthquake occurred." Their superior said. "Everyone, there is a chance that an earthquake will occur anytime soon. I want everyone on their Posts." he said.
"Yes sir!" Everyone said.
"Warn the civilians in the slums with the speakers of the jeeps. Try to not cause a panic! All civilians must get out their homes on the streets!" The older soldier said. The entire place suddenly became as active as a beehive as the soldiers jumped into the cars and tried to warn as many people as possible. Hitoshi loaded his gun in this moment. In situations of panic everything could happen and criminals tended to use the distractions for almost everything from simple theft to murder and rape. The choice of the place was not helping the slightest about that either. However not on this ghoul's watch, though he would love to eat some more.
But he couldn't risk to eat or to even show his kagugan unless it was really that necessary. If they would have him here, they would just delay it to the base in Alnus and then he really would be stuck in this world. And that would really, REALLY suck for him. On the other hand, it might a once-in-a-lifetime chance to start anew, but he still had so much to stay on Earth.
"Alright that earthquake can come I guess." Kurata said who stood next to the ghoul.
As if on cue the earth suddenly started vibrating.
"You just had to jinx it, didn't you?" The ghoul gave Kurata a flat look at this moment.
The vibrations became stronger with every moment until the first tiles fell down from Roofs of the poorly made huts and fell on the street, Breaking upon contact. People started screaming in the distance and the women in the base started to cling to him, Kurata or anyone nearby as if they were immovable objects or something. Not that Hitoshi couldn't enjoy women, but under these circumstances he would rather be in a plain and laying on the ground without a chance of something coming crashing down on him instead of not only a room full with panicking women when he was hungry, but also in one of those huts that should come crashing down in such an Event. When sand and smaller pebbles started rain down on the lower floor he even had to resist the urge to bring out his kagune for the case that the ceiling should collapse and needing to Shield himself from the debris.
The earthquake didn't last very long and soon stopped all together after only a few minutes, still the people around them were frozen in fear. Hitoshi and the other Japanese people that were used to earthquakes and their consequences were not so easily shaken, though the earthquake was a bit strong. Outside however the ruckus seemed to have just begun as muffled noises reached his ears.
'I see. There are no active volcanoes around this city so earthquakes are unknown to the people here. Thankfully that girl had the right idea to come here.' Hitoshi thought looking at the siren clinging to Kurata, who had a happy smile on his face as well as a crimson blush as multiple revealingly clothed demi-human women held onto him. 'This guy... is rotten to the core…' Hitoshi thought sweatdropping as the women finally calmed down.
"Is it over?" Someone asked.
"Looks like it. Still it could be that a few aftershocks will follow." Hitoshi said bluntly as it really wasn't a big deal. Anyone who know how earthquakes were made knew that the chance of aftershocks was pretty high after every earthquake. However, it had the opposite effect on the girls, who tightened their grip on Kurata and Hitoshi, much to one's pleasure and another one's irritation.
"What?!"
"Are you for real now?"
"Oh no! Hardy is still mad!"
"Where do we go if worse happens?"
"Psst." Kurata whistled quietly to Hitoshi, who looked at the man with a deadpan face. The human however smiled and gave the ghoul a thumps up as the blush only seemed to intensify. He really seemed to have the time of his life. At this point, Hitoshi had enough. He would definitely punch Kurata in the face and if he didn't he'd get someone else to do it.
Prying the women's hands off from his body as the additional contact with that many well-endowed female bodies was way more annoying than one would think of it as pleasant, the ghoul readjusted his uniform, which was slightly messed up from many careless hands having held onto it like a lifeline. Instead of listening to the complains of the women he only shot them an annoyed look at their helplessness.
Like hell would his big sisters Touka and Irimi have whined about something like that and even if they'd have, they'd still have done so in a much less intense way. It would need the apocalypse itself to shake them. Not that he didn't understood the situation the natives found themselves suddenly in. Those girls were just not used to earthquakes and he could understand their behavior, but he still didn't share Kurata's taste of suddenly being embraced by a bunch of scared women like that. He was a ghoul and not some giant plush toy. That was exactly what he thought as he walked over to the commanding officer.
"Sir. Shouldn't we look around the area to look for any kind of damages? In this place it is likely that some buildings might have collapsed and trapped civilians." He asked. The older man kept a firm look, but Hitoshi could see only something positive making his eyes gleam a Little with happiness.
"You are thinking in the right direction soldier, but for now we will only take care of the blocks around the base. Kurokawa, you and a few men will out and look for people who need help. Everyone remain cautious. The aftershocks can come anytime soon. Try not to play the hero and get crushed by a boulder. Move out!"
"Yes sir!" Resounded through the building as soon everyone was moving like inside an ant hill. As Hitoshi walked out he could hear the whimpering of terrified People all around him. However, his gaze was directed at the imperial capital, where nothing really seemed to have happened. Yet, under the circumstances the proud and majestic city made Hitoshi's skin crawl. As if he had an idea that something bad was going to happen soon.
'I hope that princess can keep herself together better than those women. Then again Itami is with her so she should be fine.' He thought, before shaking his head sweatdropping while thinking about his friend. 'What am I saying? Itami is with her so that idiot most likely gets himself into trouble again for sure. He's hellbound to do so. Let's just hope it won't be anything too important.' He thought as he waited for Mari to come out alongside a few other soldiers as they began to look around for anyone injured.
On the next day
BAM
"HIII!"
With that the wall next to Itami's head, who exclaimed in fright, suddenly gained a spider web of cracks as Hitoshi's palm slammed against it. The ghoul had his eyes casted to the ground as he had dragged Itami behind the headquarters, hidden from the ears and eyes of their colleagues as the shorter and younger ghoul interrogated his friend and human colleague.
Unfortunately, it seemed that despite their orders and the given conditions Itami had somehow succeeded to mess something really important up. When he returned to his unit, he found them in front of a chopper ready to lift off. However, the most unsettling Thing was a Japanese girl dressed in little more than old and dirty rags that barely covered her body sitting on one of the seats. He could smell a lot from this girl, especially the foul stench of someone that was all over her body. It didn't take a genius to put 1 and 1 together. The same scent came mixed with that of blood from Shino's hands, but given the civilian in close proximity he didn't say anything. He simply sat down, didn't say anything and waited for them to arrive in Alnus to finally ask what had happened in the hours that he was gone.
Right after hearing the news, Hitoshi was at a loss. He had expected Itami to mess up, but to literally royally mess up this badly was a new record in Itami's life. It had to be. And so he dragged the man off right after the girl's condition, whose Name was Noriko Mochizuki by the way, was confirmed to be stable and well. The man was currently facing away from the ghoul as his Body couldn't stop shaking. It was only natural. After all, Hitoshi was a ghoul.
"Itami." Hitoshi said. "Look at me." Itami was a bit baffled that Mori knew that he was facing away from the ghoul. "Now." The word came out cold as ice and stinging like a knife. Turning to his friend, Itami faced with the most terrifying Thing he could have ever seen. Hitoshi Mori, slowly looked up and looked with an expressionless look at him. The most important Thing about this was, that Hitoshi had his kagugan activated, which shone brightly like beacons at him, as his second Hand of the ghoul missed his head, but now trapped Itami in place.
"Just what the hell were you thinking you were doing?" Hitoshi asked as he leaned closer. Itami swore as he almost saw something crawling in the pitch black abyss that was his eyes, but that was probably only hallucinating Things from the fear.
"Uh Mori-san. I can explain..." Itami Held up his Hands in a surrendering manner as he tried to not make his voice shake. As Hitoshi didn't respond, Itami continued. "See I'm really sorry how things turned out, but I just lost it when I saw that... guy abused that girl. I guess the fact that she was Japanese made me snap." At that Moment Hitoshi grabbed Itami, by the collar of his shirt and slammed his friend into the wall and pinned him there. The adult man tried to remove the ghoul from his chest, but was simply weaker than the ghoul. Quite absurd to see a Shorter and younger Person lift someone off the Ground like that.
"What you just did last night has destroyed all efforts for a peaceful solution with this underdeveloped Country that took months to make and your Actions may as well start another war. I might be a human eating Monster. But what I do to survive is not something I do for the pleasure of it. I couldn't care less about the fact you did rekindle the war, but you hopefully are Aware that what you did may as well cause another mass bloodshed like when we first arrived in this world. UGH!" Suddenly Hitoshi removed his Hand from Itami, letting him fall onto his butt in the process, and grabbed his head tightly.
"Oi Mori! Are you alright?" Itami was downright frightened as he saw his friend in pain despite earlier. After a moment the groans ceased and the ghoul picked himself up again with his eyes being again human like.
"Urh... I'm fine. Looks like the hunger is really getting to me." Hitoshi admitted. The man before him turned pale as the ghoul sighed. "Relax will you? I won't eat you. Actually I have a Feeling I should thank you for starting a war again. You know since more death means more Food for me that I don't need to kill myself." The kagugan deactivated before he started laughing. "Though I must admit that I'm glad to not to have come with you this time."
"W-Why is that?" Itami asked slightly out nerved by the way, the ghoul laughed.
"If the report from Kuribayashi is accurate and this prince Zorzal was only half of the self-absorbed piece of shit as she made him look like I'd probably have beaten him up far worse than what she did." Hitoshi shot Itami a slasher smile as his eyes flickered red for a short Moment. Itami didn't Need to think twice about what would have happened if Zorzal pissed him off. In comparison to the aspect of being skewered by the ghouls kagune and eaten alive, the broken bones and knocked out teeth were basically Nothing. Secretly, Itami now wished that Hitoshi would have come with them to do that as it would have been way more satisfying to watch... and probably much cooler too.
Then again, there was another Problem that would have come with it. The politician who had accompanied them to the Emperor. As much as killing the Crown prince of the Empire in the most gruesome and brutal Fashion would have been clearly something that Itami would have wanted to see, the fact that a politician sent by the Japanese Government had been present would have earned Hitoshi and by Extension the JSDF only a lot more Trouble.
"Speaking of which..." Hitoshi said as he turned around. "You know to eavesdrop is considered impolite, now isn't it Shino?" Much to Itami's surprise, the short brunette Woman came out from behind a corner. Her gaze was passive, but still hostile. "Before you ask how I could tell that you were there, I'm not deaf."
"Tch." The Woman clicked her tongue as she crossed her arms. Hitoshi really had to resist the urge to roll his eyes.
It was clear that she was still mad at him or rather the whole situation of him being a ghoul. Hitoshi had not tried Talking to her and neither did she make the first move. It was a stalemate of silence in which only glares and short nods were exchanged. The friendlier relationship between them had cooled down a lot since that revelation and now he had no doubt that Shino would not hesitate to draw her gun at him the moment he was vulnerable.
"So what? You said yourself that you are hungry. That is more than enough reason to actually tell everyone about you." Shino said. Hitoshi's eyes narrowed in a glare that promised pain and suffering if she would actually do so. Meanwhile Itami felt a bit misplaced. It was as if a child with 0 authority was watching its parents to fight over something they couldn't wrap their heads around.
"True that. If I do attack you, make sure to make the shot count, Kuribayashi." Hitoshi said as he tapped his forehead with his thumb. "Better fire the whole magazine so I don't stand up for sure while you're at it." He added. "Though I must say, I didn't think you'd actually beat the prince into a bloody heap of broken bones like that. Color me impressed."
"And what would you have done? Eaten him and spit out his bones?" Shino asked. The ghoul smirked in an almost sinister looking way at this as he crossed the distance between them, now standing right before the fellow sergeant.
"Would you want me to do that?" He asked. "Would you have had me tearing into this bastard son of a spoiled brat, tear away years' worth of intense training of muscle mass with my teeth alone, snap his bones like bread and pull out his guts through an open rip cage for everything he did to Noriko? Would you have wanted me to skewer him on my kagune, slash off one limb at a time before stabbing him over and over again, while he'd be begging for his life to be spared and his bloodpooling on the ground until the corpse would have been unrecognizable for the people present?" The way he said it, Shino and Itami knew one thing. Hitoshi wasn't joking. He definitely could have pulled that off. "Or would you only have me do that to see that monster you see in me to prove yourself right? Come one say something, would you?" Hitoshi asked.
Shino's eyes shot open as she did take a step back, glaring at Hitoshi. "No matter what you say or how well you pretend to be a human, you'll always just be a monster." She said before stomping off. Itami watched the sergeant retreat before his gaze went to Hitoshi, who was balling his hands into fists before relaxing them again.
"Oi Mori..."
"Don't worry Itami." The ghoul cut his friend off, before turning to him with a smile. "I know enough about women to tell that she'll be calming down soon. Trust me on that one." With that he walked away himself. Itami was unable to say anything though he wanted to say something… anything, yet failed to find words.
"Didn't you say that months ago already?" Itami asked himself as he leaned with his back against the wall. His head resting between the two cracked areas in the wall where the ghoul's Hands had been, while he was gazing up into the sky.
Later
Inside a certain room, a person was tugged under a blanket as a knocking sound could be heard from the door, making said person groan and grumble.
"Leave me alone…" Myuute said weakly.
"Okay." The voice of the visitor said, before only the fading footsteps remained. It took the siren a moment before she registered the words and voice. Immediately she jumped out of her bed and rushed to the door, slamming it open, revealing a confused ghoul before her.
"THERE YOU ARE!?" She shouted pointing at Hitoshi, while holding herself upright on the doorframe as she still wobbled around despite just standing. The smell of alcohol hit the ghoul's nose.
"You have been drinking again. A lot." He sighed. Immediately the siren tensed up.
"W-well I just wanted to spend some time when suddenly that earthquake happened-Huh?" Myuute said confused as she suddenly found Hitoshi right before her as he pinched both of her cheeks as if testing how elastic they were and how far they could be stretched. "Owowowowow! That hurts!"
"What did I say about alcohol consummation during Training sessions?" The sergeant was not having his apprentice's complains. Still pinching her cheeks, he listened to what he had told Myuute.
"Alcohol is unhealthy in large quantities." The siren admitted when her cheeks were released. The ghoul sighed.
"Okay, first of all you'll make up for that with harder training. Other than that your hangover is already punishment enough for today." He said. Myuute glared at her mentor. "After that we may as well head out and drink on occasions." He said as that caught her interest.
"Really?" She asked. Hitoshi Mori sighed once more.
"Yes. But please wear something more appropriate than now."
"Huh?" Myuute looked down on herself as her face went cherry red. She had been sleeping in under garments and therefore had not changed when reaching for the door. Until now for this entire conversation, she had been like that. Immediately, the ghoul was kicked in the chest, before she slammed the door shut. Unfortunately, her aim had been off in her rush leading the avian talons to not his stomach as intended but his crotch rendering him in a fetal position on the ground.
'God why me?' He thought as he tried getting up on his feet again. Even though ghouls were known for regeneration, kicking someone in the crotch was even among ghouls just as looked down upon as amongst humans. It was not cool. Not at all.
Eventually after getting his feeling back in Hitoshi Jr. he stood up without much staggering and proceeded to walk around. He had made a mental note to visit the girl Noriko for once or twice. Perhaps she could shed some light on her time in this world, though it would be really awkward for him to ask such things. That was his plan as he tried walking without creating too much friction between his legs and his crown jewels resulting in a rather funny way to walk with wide spread legs.
That was when he saw Itami, Leilei and Rory walking around. Right in that moment, a bad feeling announced itself in the ghoul's head. The last time Itami had messed something up it ended in a new conflict between two countries. What could possibly be worse than that?
After today's events that was literally everything that came into Hitoshi's mind as he tried to spy on then and slowly sneak closer to them. Though every step almost made him take a sharp breath in as he slowly proceeded to follow the trio.
Unknown to that, the news of a CCG raid on the 24th ward and the ghoul coffee shop Anteiku's destruction went into the headlines of the news websites.
And that's the last cliffhanger I had planned to put there. To be honest, I actually could have gotten further with the start of Tuka's denial arc or the confrontation with Yao as to be honest the anime was disappointing in that regard. I mean, Yao literally broke her will to live on. And all she did was crying her eyes out about no one helping her... AND THEN DECLARING THAT SHE BROKE TUKA WITH THAT F*%§&$/ SMILE ON HER FACE AS IF THATS SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF!?
Back when I saw this scene I knew one Thing for sure. If I pulled through with the Neuntöter story, I'm going to have Hitoshi beat the daylights out of Yao for that stunt. I don't care whether she did it out of desperation or because she was starting to become insane herself, there are lines that we as sentient beings with morales simply don't cross. Threatening someone is one thing. Forcing people to do something by force is already damn desperate. But literally taking away someone's will to live on certainly crosses the line there. By that point, I'd just have left Yao and her village to die by the fire dragon and instead of having this nonsense revenge or death by broken heart Tuka plot to come to accept reality just have sent her to a therapist to take care of the loose screws in her head. (Seriously, death by broken heart? Is she the reincarnation of Padme Amidala or what?)
Also Hitoshi attacking Yao would have created way more tension in the story than Itami standing there paralyzed in fear and not knowing what to do, while Looking like he just soiled his pants, before we see him next time pretending to be Tuka's dad for the sake of her sanity, while Yao keeps making remarks from the sidelines. Seriously, she received Nothing? No beating? No Exile out of Alnus? Not even some sort of punishment? Sorry, but that's not something I could just let slide here. Having Hitoshi's violent overreaction and aggressive nature as a counterpart to Itami being a bit too nice for his own wellbeing when it comes to women in this anime would really have even the scales at least a little.
But as you know, unfortunately it won't be that way and this will be the last entry on this story.
I thank everyone for reading and hope you had fun doing so as well as for your support throughout the last 3 years. I'm very proud at what this story has achieved and hope that I at least was able to inspire others in at least some way to write stories themselves, even if they are not falling into the same categories as this one.
And with that I say goodnight to all of you. I'll see you around in another story.
