Morning People

Wally is not a morning person. Richard Grayson is.

Wally knows he's not supposed to user super speed to get to classes on time. He's not even supposed to slide down the staircase to breakfast, or chew with his mouth open in super speed, or chew with his mouth closed in super speed.

Basically he's not allowed to do anything that gives him an extra five seconds of sleep in the morning.

And he hates it.

He hates the taste of black coffee –he's not allowed sugar in the mornings either -and he always uses up the last of the milk for his cereal.

But sometimes, mornings are pretty okay.

Every once in a while, Wally thinks that he could be a morning person.

This usually coincides with the mornings when he's with the team –the mornings where he gets to wake up to Megan trying to make breakfast, to Super Boy sparring with Aqua Lad, to Robin catching a few moments of rest by using his chest as a pillow.

Wally hates waking up early.

He hates seeing the sun peek through the window, teasing him with all the hours of sleep that could have been. He hates hearing birds chirp, like mornings are wonderful things he's been blessed with, rather than the horrid dreadful occurrences they truly are. He hates subtracting the current time from the last time he remembers before falling asleep, and arriving at a number that can only be described as an insufficient amount of sleep.

But waking up next to Robin makes Wally think that maybe mornings can be okay.

Richard Grayson lives for the morning.

Some days, he lives for the quiet hours of the morning, rising at five to get an hour's worth of acrobatics in before patrolling and heading off to class.

Some days, he jumps out of bed at four to finish a coding project before sparring practice and strength conditioning and barely arriving before the bell rings.

Some days, he slides out of bed at three to catch up with Bruce in the few moments of calm before the storm that is his day needs to begin.

Some days, he crawls out of bed at two to code, train, patrol, review why last night's training practice went so horribly wrong, and guinea pig a few more practice scenarios on himself before deeming it safe for team practice.

Some days, he wakes at one to the sound of Wally's heavy breathing, snoring, or in some rare instances, slipping and stumbling on his way to bed. It's these days that he cherishes the most, that he lives for the most, that he loves the most.

Richard Grayson lives for the morning.

Richard Grayson lives for those mornings- those mornings he where he wakes at one, those mornings he gets to spend with the one he loves.

This usually coincides with the mornings where he reawakens far past decent waking hours, Wally's arms entrapping him in the warm prison that is their bed –the mornings where even Bruce takes pity on the still young man, where Megan tries twice as hard to make breakfast edible, where Super Boy and Aqua Lad spar twice as intensely and half as loudly.

Richard Grayson lives for the mornings, but sometimes, sleeping in is pretty okay.
