The Magic of Dirgelmor

AN:This is my first fanfiction for Rocket's Island (and probably my last unless people actually like this one!) There isn't a lot of fanfiction for this wonderful series so I thought I'd write this little oneshot. Enjoy!

Rocket Boulsworth wasn't like most kids his own age. Even at the tender age of five, where imagination was encouraged, teachers were concerned that his imagination was overactive. The other children scoffed at his claims that dragons, witches and other mythical beings were real.

A few months later, the Boulsworth family moved from Essex to Dirgelmor - or more precisely to the Knot farm in the village of Ballabungie. It was a huge change from the city and young Rocket hoped he would find someone who believed just as strongly as he did.

One day, our story starts. Rocket, along with his older sister Alli, had gone to the village shop in an attempt to make friends with a few locals. Alli attempted to talk with some of the kids her age but, like Rocket, she had never had much luck making friends.

As Alli walked outside carrying a lollipop, Rocket found himself distracted by what lay beyond the beaded curtains. Surely something secret existed - something magical perhaps? Looking at the people in the shop, the small blonde boy sneaked carefully through the beaded curtains whilst everyone was distracted.

It didn't seen all that magical now he had seen behind the curtain, yet Rocket felt a strange feeling that the owner of the room believed too.

"Ahhh, I wondered where you had run off to!" A voice said, causing Rocket to jump and turn around. He saw the storekeeper, an elderly man and Dibber's grandfather. Rocket knew Dibber quite well because they were in the same class at school. "I saw your sister leave and, at first I thought you were with her but here you are." He didn't sound angry to Rocket's surprise.

"I'm sorry - I just thought there was something magical behind here but there isn't." The boy lowered his head, looking downcast.

"There's magic wherever you go on this island, my boy!" Dibber's grandfather laughed.

Rocket looked up optimistically. "Really?" He asked hopefully.

"Yes, or I'm not the Oldest Man in the World! I'm 990 and I can guarantee that you've never met anyone older." The small boy shook his head in awe. He had been right - magical things did exist! This man was proof if he was so old - it meant he must have seen lots of wonderful things

Suddenly Alli's voice called, "Rocket, where are you? We have to go!" Rocket waved goodbye to the Oldest Man who had one last thing to say.

"Magic will exist as long as you believe in it, young Rocket. There are many hidden secrets in Dirgelmor that can be found if you open your mind."

With that advice in his head, Rocket would grow up, always keeping an open mind and finding new secrets everyday. When the foster children started coming, he would work to get them to believe just as he did.

Though it sometimes seemed like a lost cause, he felt so much happiness when he was successful. He knew that as long as he and his family kept believing, the magic of Dirgelmor would never die.

AN: Well, I hope this is OK. If you liked it, review and let me know. Also, if you have a request that you want me to write, either write a review or PM me. Thank you for reading! ^^
