The Doctor sat in his room, on his simple bed before he heard a faint noise in the distance. He was sure they were in space and after that day's events Clara must have been asleep.
He stood, cautiously walking to the engine room of his TARDIS. He didn't say anything only listened. Two voices sang out, echoing in only the way his space ship could make.
"Another summer day
Has come and gone away
In Paris and Rome..."
The Doctor walked in, hands in his pockets and a small smile on his face. As he looked around he saw Jack Frost sitting on the edge of the TARDIS his thin legs hanging into the oblivion.
"Michael Bublè I believe," the doctor commented. "Early twenty first century if I'm not mistaken. How did you get it?"
A sniff, Jack was wiping his face, "downloaded it off of iTunes... ages ago."
"Are you alright?" The doctor approached his son who sat on the brink of space, staring into the sky.
"Yea," Jack wiped his face again, sniffing back tears.
"No you're not." The doctor sat down next him and leaned over to see the child's puffy eyes and tear stained cheeks. "What's wrong kiddo?"
"Nothing," Jack pushed away the last of his tears. "I'm too old to cry anyway."
"No one's too old to cry," the doctor squeezed his shoulders. "I still do."
"I'm older than you now," Jack's smile was watery. "By almost eight hundred years."
The doctor hid his surprise and for a moment they listened to the song which-it seems was stuck on replay.
"Another aeroplane
Another sunny place
I'm lucky, I know
But I wanna go home
Mmmm, I've got to go home..."
Jack opened his mouth and began to sing along.
"Let me go home
I'm just too far from where you are
I wanna come home..." Tears sprung to his eyes again and the sound echoed out into the depths of space.
"And I feel just like I'm living someone else's life
It's like I just stepped outside
When everything was going right
And I know just why you could not
Come along with me
This was not your dream
But you always believed in me."
The doctor joined in, his horrible singing voice providing a small harmony.
"Another winter day has come
And gone away
In either Paris or Rome
And I wanna go home
Let me go home."
Jack looked up at his father and his smile widened a little.
"And I'm surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel alone
And let me go home
Oh, I miss you, you know."
The gentle guitar strummed it's solo and Jack laid his head on the Doctor's shoulder and spoke. "Doctor?"
"Hmmm?"
"I want to go home."
"I was afraid of that."
The song continued at the pair finished singing.
"Let me go home
I've had my run
I'm done
I gotta go home
Let me go home
It'll all be all right
I'll be home tonight
I'm coming back home."
The tune trailed off into silence. "Are you sure Jack?" The Doctor asked.
"I came into space with you so many years ago hoping to find myself in adventure. But I had everything I needed back home. I had a family." He looked up at his dad. "Don't get me wrong I've loved every second of it but I'm done. I want to go home."
"Alright," the Doctor rubbed Jack's arm, and held him close. "Alright. Let's get you back where you belong."
