"You think you're alone Raven, but you're not."
Her eyes widened. She could see it now, all that she had pushed back and denied. Her friends cared for her, loved her and tried for so long to reach out to her. Why was it that the grass stain idiot could see that before she did?
He was taken by complete surprise when his dark, monotone team mate wrapped her arms around him. Embarrassed and confused, he stood there awkwardly, staring blankly as the wall in front of him.
The girl, who had seem so intent in pushing them all away, was holding him close like family, like friends- maybe even lovers. He blushed harshly and mentally slapped himself.
Yeah right.
...
16. 5"8. Still growing rapidly upwards.
Beast Boy (or man as he tried to get the others to say) had finally started to look his age (acting it was a different matter) and he was basking, unashamedly, in his own excellence.
"Don't fall for me now Rae Rae," he said, winking and grinning like moron.
Rolling her eyes, Raven turned back to her book.
"It's Raven," she paused to turn a page. "Also, your fly's undone."
The way he broke out of his stupid pose, squirming and bright red in the face, was almost cute.
Almost
...
"You're not your father."
Her back was to him, face shielded by her long dark hair.
"Everyone makes mistakes Rae."
He heard her mumble something about that not being her name. Hesitantly, he placed a hand on her shoulder.
"No one's blaming you, the guy's fine, well a bit battered but fine. Don't worry. I mean, I for one am flattered you'd go to such extremes to protect me."
Shrugging off his hand, she faced him, eyes blank.
"By becoming a monster? I'm as much of a villain as he is," she spat.
"But you use your powers for good Raven. You're a hero, as much Robin, Star, Cy and me. Got it?"
"Beast Boy-"
"Don't BB me Rae. You're gooder than tofu on toast ok?"
"Greater."
"What?"
"Nevermind."
He gave her that lopsided grin of his and it was hard not to smile back. Their eyes met, briefly, silently. He extended an arm out, questioning her. After a long pause she stepped forward, the space between them vanishing as he wrapped his arms around her. Tentatively, she brought her hands to his back, noticing how the stringy muscles had evolved to be larger, tougher. His body felt different from when he was younger- warmer, more inviting... safer. She must have been ignorant of how much he had changed over the years.
As one of his hands gently stroked the back of her head she swore she heard him whisper.
"I'd do anything to protect you too."
