In honor of Valentine's Day being tomorrow, enjoy a short and sweet Janelos drabble!
Mal was spending the day with Ben, Evie and Doug were watching a movie, and Jay was doing who knows what with some girl who knows where. And Carlos was alone.
That didn't happen often. His friends never left him out of anything, but he certainly couldn't third-wheel a date on Valentine's Day. It wasn't any of their faults that he was dateless.
He was the youngest in his grade and almost in the school. There was no girl in the whole school that wanted to date him, he could guarantee that.
That wasn't such a bad thing though, he didn't know if he wanted to date anyone anyway.
Either way, he was sitting alone in the student lounge, decorated obnoxiously in red and pink hearts and flowers. He was doing homework and Dude was curled up on the seat next to him, fast asleep. He supposed that made his dog his Valentine. At least he had someone.
"Carlos?"
He looked up from his laptop to see Jane standing by the door, with a red nose, snow in her hair, and clutching a pink paper bag dotted with little snowflake sized water spots.
"Hi Jane,"
"Am I bothering you?" she asked softly.
"Nope."
She smiled a little and crossed the room until she was beside him. "I've been looking for you."
"You have?"
She nodded and opened the paper bag, reaching inside and pulling out a paper card and a chocolate bar. "I... Happy Valentine's Day," she said shyly, handing it to him.
Jane was such a sweetheart. She gave everyone handmade cards for every holiday. She never wanted anyone to feel left out. She was a special kind of person and she was a great friend.
He smiled at her. He felt very loved. "Thank you,"
"You're welcome," She turned a faint shade of pink.
"I-I feel bad I don't have anything to give you..."
"It's okay." she replied softly, not looking the least bit upset. She just liked to make people happy. "Oh!" she stuck her hand back into the bag and pulled out a heart shaped dog biscuit in a little plastic bag tied with a red ribbon. "This is for Dude... when he wakes up."
"Thanks, I know he'll love it."
She shifted her weight a little. "I have to go find everyone else... see you later, Carlos."
"Bye Jane, thanks again. Happy Valentine's Day!"
She smiled and left the room.
A few hours later at dinner time when people were returning from their dates and everything, Carlos saw Jane give valentines to a few more people, including Chad, Ben, and Mal, and he noticed something a little strange.
No one else had gotten chocolate.
Everyone had their day brightened, but he was the only person Jane had given candy to.
The next day, Carlos caught up to Jane before breakfast and handed her one pink flower, catching her off guard. Someone who loved so much desired love in return.
"I know I'm kind of late for Valentine's Day, but..." Carlos trailed off nervously. He could tell he was blushing bright red.
Jane was bushing too.
She took them both by surprise by kissing his cheek.
"Thank you, Carlos." she said softly before walking away, both of them too shy to do anything else.
From then on, every February 15th, Carlos gave Jane a single pink flower. No one knew how the tradition started, but everyone agreed it was sweet.
A/N: I'm sorry this is so short, but I'm sick and writing new chapters for my longer stories at the moment. I hope you liked it anyway!
I hope your Valentine's Day is filled with love, familial, romantic, or otherwise!
