Chapter 20: Night Out (II)
"I'm sorry if it's rather small, but please make yourself at home."
"Pardon the intrusion…" Saitama simply nodded politely before he took his shoes off and stepped inside a regular-size studio-apartment room, following the young woman in front of him.
After their encounter at the park, the trip back to the woman's house - who introduced herself as Haruka, went off without a hitch. During that time, Saitama was still wrapping his head about the fact that he was stranded in an alternate world. Aside from the difference in landscapes and countries, everything else was the same; the languages, cultures, governments, etc. The biggest difference was, the fact that heroes and monsters were stuff of fiction in his current place.
"Feel free to use the bathroom, I will get you some towels and fresh clothes."
Haruka's voice interrupted his musing. Saitama looked up to see Haruka smiling at him before she went into a room - her bedroom, presumably. Saitama remained on his spot, the image of Haruka's smiling face stuck in his mind for a second before he quickly shook it off. "Yeah, thanks!" He said as he gave the home another look; a sizeable room that was consisted of a small kitchen, dining table, and a living area with simple appliances and furnitures - a carpet with a tea-table and a couch. At some corners, he saw a couple of doors and a sliding door which he assumed to be the access for the bed, laundry, bathroom and the balcony. Overall, it was average, but certainly not bad.
Not wanting to waste too much water for the home-owner, Saitama simply took a quick shower to clean and freshen himself up. He turned off the shower as soon as he had finished cleaning himself, and walked out of the shower.
He did not know that Haruka had yet to prepare his towels and his change of clothes, as well as the said woman just arrived to deliver the said items. Both man and woman froze on the spot; the former's bare body was still soaked and steaming from the shower, and the latter was greeted by the sight of Saitama's lean muscular figure.
"Eep!"
At Haruka's shriek, Saitama quickly stepped back into the bathroom and shut the door close, missing the sight of Haruka blushing up a storm. "Sorry!" Saitama apologized through the closed door.
"N-n-no, I'm sorry too." Haruka stammered, as she put the towels and clothes on top of the washing machine. "I-I have some clothes for you here. They're technically for women, but I think it can be passed as for men… I'm sorry about this." Then, she quickly left the room.
"It's okay, thanks." Saitama barely managed to speak those words when he heard the sound of door shutting. A few seconds later, he sighed as he ran his hand over his bald head. "...Way to go to start your first night here, buddy."
"Bwahahahaha!"
"Shut up! It's not funny!" Saitama rebuked as Azazel laughed at his story.
"While I don't find it very funny…" Issei interjected, which Saitama appreciated. "...But to flash mom on the first night you met her? That's not cool, dad." Next to the young man was Saji - who was suffering a hangover and barely conscious.
"Ugh, don't remind me." Saitama sighed as he took another sip of his drink. On the other hand, the rest of the table's occupants had different reactions.
"People can actually work as heroes in costumes at your world?"
"...And you're not a top-rank?"
"You have a cyborg friend?"
"You fought even aliens?"
"To think that you are from an entirely different world… Suddenly, a bunch of stuff around you starts to make sense now."
"Yes, yes, those are pretty much things from my old home, alright." Saitama nodded at each comment. "To be honest, while I still want to go home and all, this place is pretty cool too, now that I've met you guys."
"D'awww, we love you too, buddy." Azazel playfully patted Saitama's shoulder, who simply scoffed good-naturedly at the gesture.
"Still, that's an interesting story so far." Lavinia put in her two-cents. "...Kind of sounds romantic, if I may say so myself. You came to meet your wife when she was in peril like a knight in shining armour."
"Please, while I love Haruka and all, it wasn't that great, honestly." Saitama humbly retorted.
oXo
"That's so sweet!" Ravel gushed.
"So romantic!" Asia also seconded Ravel's opinion.
"Please, girls… It wasn't that great, to be honest…" Back in the hotspring, Haruka bashfully retorted at several cooes and reactions of the women whom heard the story of her encounter with her husband.
"What are you saying? Of course it was!" Akeno said with wonder in her sparkling, lavender eyes. "You were in danger, and Saitama came in like a knight in shining armour! Just like a fairy tale!"
"Now that I think about it, your meeting sounds like fate. Makes it seems that you two are made for each other." Irina commented with a pleased sigh
"Um, no offence here, but am I the only one who is concerned that Saitama here is an alien?" Sona, on the other hand, had an entirely different opinion about the story; her Queen, Tsubaki, gave her nod in agreement.
"So? I think at this point, it actually makes sense a lot of things, now that we know Saitama is from another world." Rias gave her two cents, an opinion was shared by the rest of the women.
"Another world, huh…" Xenovia looked up in thought, a gesture which was mirrored by Serafall, Tsubasa, Tomoe, Ruruko, Le Fay, Kuroka, Koneko and Benia. "I wonder if there are other people as strong as Saitama…"
"I find that to be a terrifying thought." Rossweisse could not help but comment.
"I can't blame you for that, though I'm curious myself." Serafall nodded at Rossweisse's input. A world filled with more people with Saitama's strength? Nobody knew if they wanted to go there or not. "Then? How was life with Saitama-chan coming for the first time?"
Haruka hummed as she stood out from the water and took a seat at the rim of the spring, leaving her legs inside the water, in order to cool herself a bit. "As you all have expected, it wasn't easy." Haruka smiled fondly as she kept talking, with everyone else kept their undivided attention on her.
Haruka was staring at Saitama with somewhat unreadable expression; the latter himself was looking as if he had attempted to explain to a bunch of hopeful children the truth about Santa Claus.
It was the morning after their encounter, and at the moment they were sitting together on the table sitting across one another, having done eating simple breakfast, leaving them with a cup of coffee in hand. "...So let me get my head around this." Haruka finally spoke after taking a deep breath. "You were in a black hole before you arrived here, and you basically said that Japan is supposed to be a lot bigger than the island we are residing in, with 26 cities using simple alphabetic letters as their names, and you are from… Z-City?"
"...Yeah." Saitama could only nod in response.
"And you've been working as a…" Haruka motioned with her free hand at Saitama. "Pro-hero? Like superheroes in comic books?"
"Pretty much, yeah." Saitama tilted his head with a shrug.
"So the… thing that attacked me last night, you fight them on a daily basis?"
"Well, not every day, you see…. But often enough."
Haruka took a sip from her warm drink and heaved out a sigh. "Alright, so what are you going to do now?"
Saitama blinked at the woman before him. "...You believe me?"
"Well, I can't just disregard what you've said after what I had encountered last night, can I?" Haruka retorted. Truthfully, when she woke up that morning, she thought the event from the previous night was nothing but a bad dream until she found a bald man sleeping on her couch - the same bald man who saved her life and she invited to stay at her home for the night. Suffice to say, the monster that almost killed her previously was most likely real. "Rather, I think the monster from last night made more sense than your story. Then again, you saved my life, so the least I can do in return is giving you the benefit of the doubt. So again, what will you do now?"
"I… don't know." Saitama looked into his cup in thought. "...I don't even know if I can go home, I don't know if there's even any kind of hero association here."
"Maybe you can try joining the military?" Haruka piped in - the thought was somewhat intriguing.
Saitama was silent for a second before replying, "...Nah, I'll pass on that."
"Why not? With your strength, I think you'll make a killing."
"Maybe… But I just find it sounds like a huge pain in the ass." Saitama commented off-handedly.
Haruka stared at the man before him for another good few seconds before she sighed. "It can't be helped, then." She then sat a little straighter. "I will check if my budget can fit you in too." She then stood up from her seat.
Saitama blinked twice at the woman. "...What?"
"What?" Haruka paused mid-way and asked with raised eyebrows. "Until you come up with something, you obviously need somewhere to sleep in, don't you? Or do you actually have somewhere to stay?"
"Well, no; but I can't just mooching off at your place." Saitama argued.
"Okay - one, I'm not making a bitch out of myself by throwing you out on the streets after what you've done for me." Haruka raised her index finger to emphasize her point. "...And two, it's not like I'm letting you stay for free either. You will have your own fair share of work here, anything that can help me out, whether watching after the house, chores, shopping, or even finding a job on your own if necessary. Those who don't work, don't eat." She finished with a look that demanded no further argument.
Saitama stared at Haruka with a look that was a mixture of amusement and awe. Seeing that he did not have much choice in the matter, he sighed at made the obvious decision.
"...And with that, I started sharing the same rooftop with her." Saitama said as he took another sip from his glass.
Everybody (at least those who were sobberred enough to listen) hummed as they took in Saitama's story. "Cohabitation, huh… Reminds me of my early days in the human world." Azazel mused as he played with his drink.
"Taking one woman after another onto your bed before you left them?" Vali snarked with a suspicious look.
"How rude!" Azazel retorted with somewhat insulted expression. "For your information, I always ended each of my relationships properly, and always make sure they would have a comfortable life before I move on. Most women in my life are basically hatchlings compared to me, y'know." In return, Vali simply closed his eyes without returning anymore argument.
However, Vali's eyes opened as he regarded Saitama. "Wait a second. If you've been living with your wife, got married, and had the Red One… What about your form of identification? How did you figure that one out?"
"Well…" However, before Saitama could have replied, Azazel noticed a familiar face at the corner of his sight before he stood up and waved his hand.
Everyone else turned towards the new addition, who was a handsome man with radiant blonde hair, clad in a simple white suit with dark yellow tie. "Well, I'll be damned. Who would've thought you would actually come to visit, brother." Azazel remarked with an amused tone.
The others surely did not expect Archangel Michael to come to a club that was run by a fallen angel. Nonetheless, the said archangel simply smiled friendly as he took a seat an empty spot on the VIP table, courtesy of Saitama and Issei scooting away.
"It appears that our hard work had been paid off; as long as you don't plan to cause any more shenanigans, I don't mind sitting down to spend a good time with old comrade, just like the old times." Michael said after he thanked the father and son for the seat.
"That's something I will drink to. I take you'd like something non-alcoholic?" Azazel asked, while he had already signed the bartender on duty to prepare something.
"By the end of the day, I believe alcohol is merely a substance made by humans, nothing good or evil about it. But yes, I prefer something with no alcohol, if you don't mind." Michael nodded, before he turned to Saitama. "Ah, Mr. Saitama. Would you mind passing my gratitude to your wife for inviting my sister to relax at your home? Gabriel had been ecstatic at the notion."
"Sure, no problem." Saitama nodded with a small smile.
Then, Azazel grinned in mischief before speaking out, "Anyway, Michael, you come just in time. Our baldy here is telling us the story about his younger days. Carry on, Saitama!"
The man in question sighed in resignation when Michael's expression quickly turned into that of interest.
"Yes, indeed. If Father was here, even He would love to listen to the tale of how a man, emotionally dulled, encountered true love." Michael threw in his tidbit.
oXo
"Sorry that I am late, everyone! What did I miss?"
"Thanks for having me."
The girls' side was having two more newcomers - a beautiful young woman in her late teens with green-tinted blonde hair and pink eyes, and an extremely beautiful woman with wavy blonde hair.
"Seek-chan, it's good that you finally manage to join us. I take you have finished your quota for today?"
"Gaby!"
Yes, Seekvaira Agares and Seraph Gabriel just entered the bath with towels wrapped around their bodies. The former smiled and nodded at her childhood friend, "Yes, I have, Rias. It's thanks to Alivian and the rest of my peerage that I managed to finish in time. Let me wash my body real quick first." the Agares heiress then went to the shower.
"Oh, Haruka! I miss you!" Gabriel smiled as she welcomed Haruka who had stood up from her spot to approach her for a hug. "There was a lot to do in Heaven that I couldn't just abandon my brother Michael alone! I hope I didn't make you girls waiting!"
"Please, you are far from too late, Gaby. Come, take a shower so you can join us in the hot-spring! We've been here for a while, but there's still some time left. I'm…. in the middle of telling everyone how I met my husband…" Haruka ended up blushing at the last part.
"Truly?" Gabriel's eyes were practically sparkling at the idea. "That's something I must not miss! I'll be back in a jiffy!" The Seraph then wasted no time and walked towards the shower.
Back in the hotspring, Serafall was sighing at the sight of human and angel interacting. "Oh? Is something the matter, Serafall?" Venelana asked with a knowing look.
"Indeed, is it just me, or did I see a hint of jealousy there?" Yasaka also put in her two-cents with a teasing smile.
Surprisingly enough, Serafall took it in stride as she closed her eyes and smiled easily. "Nope, nothing at all. Haru-nyan! Come back here, you haven't finished the story, right?"
Haruka simply waved before she returned to her spot. "Fufufu, let's wait for the newcomers to join us, okay?"
Serafall nodded in understanding before she noticed a contemplative look on her sister's face. "What's wrong, So-tan? Something on your mind?"
Sona blinked at her sister before replying, "Ah, no. It's just something about Mrs. Hyoudou's story…" She then trailed towards the woman in question. "Since Saitama has been living here ever since… What did you do about his form of identification? I thought he came from another world? Also, he also needed some kind of source of income if everything were to go without a hitch, so what did he do for a living?"
Haruka simply showed a knowing look. "Ah, about those..."
"I'm home…"
It was evening; Saitama called out as he stepped inside his new temporary home and took his boots off. He was clad in a blue construction uniform, complete with the safety gloves. As he stepped in further into the apartment room, Saitama could smell something delicious.
"Welcome back." Haruka's voice could be heard as Saitama arrived in the dining room, where he could see her cooking.
It had been almost three months ever since Saitama and Haruka had begun their cohabitation. So far so good - true to their agreement, Saitama had been taking care of the house for the first couple of weeks, where he would clean and performed other chores which Haruka did not have much time to do due to her other commitments. Of course, it had been awkward at first, for two people of opposing gender to share a space under the same roof. There are occasions where Saitama and Haruka would accidentally walked into each other when they were… not so decent; like when at early morning, a still-drowsy Saitama accidentally walked into Haruka who was using the rest-room, or when Haruka one time forgot that she was sharing her room with a man when she was dressing too light from hot weather; the list went on until they got accustomed with one another's presence. On that note, Saitama never once complained despite having to sleep on the cramp sofa in the living room, nor when he had to settle with Haruka's clothes on several days, until she managed to provide more men clothing for him with her barely-average income.
After around one month, Saitama began to look for jobs, and it did not take long for him to land several odd jobs, particularly those that required a lot of heavy-lifting. Thanks to his strength, Saitama managed to get himself some quick cash, especially from construction work, which he had been doing after another one and half a month. It kind of reminded him of his younger days, when he took different jobs before taking the mantle of a hero.
"'Sup, Haruka." Saitama greeted as he took off his gloves and his uniform, revealing a white T-shirt underneath. "Are you going for your part-time job again tonight?"
"I'm supposed to have a night off, but one of my colleagues went down with a cold and I need to cover for her." Haruka replied before she used her ladle to pour some soup into a saucer and took a sip. She then nodded in satisfaction before she addressed her room-mate again. "Why don't you take a shower? I'm almost done with dinner."
"Yeah, I'll do that. Thanks again, Haruka."
Soon enough, the two were sitting on the dining table, enjoying simple meals together. Saitama had to admit; the normal, simplistic atmosphere was strangely refreshing compared to, when he was living with Genos. He appreciated Genos' presence, but their conversation over dinner was mostly about their jobs and the cyborg's questions and sometimes insistence on his training.
Not that Saitama and Haruka did not talk about their jobs and activities during the day, but the rest of the conversation was spent with idle talks; light-hearted topics and Haruka would frequently ask Saitama for stories about his old home. Needless to say, Haruka was awfully entertained when Saitama was trying his best to recall the past events that led him to this point.
After dinner, Saitama volunteered to clean up the dishes, as Haruka prepared herself for her part-time job. From what she told Saitama, Haruka worked at a bar/diner as one of its poster-girls. "Okay, Saitama. I'll be leaving." Haruka said once she had put up her light make-up.
"Have a safe trip." Saitama said as he just finished washing the last eating utensils. "...Say, what time will you be back home?"
Putting her shoes on, Haruka stared at him for a second before she hummed with a thoughtful look. "Hm, let's see…. Probably around midnight, but won't be that late. My workplace is a bar, after all." She replied with a small, reassuring smile.
"I see…" Saitama looked down as he dried his hands off. "...Okay, see you later."
Haruka simply smiled wider as she waved at him, before she walked out the door.
"That sounds…. Better than I thought it would." Bikou remarked with a drink in hand. "So absolutely nothing happened during the first few months of your stay with Haruka?"
"No…" Saitama replied with a tone as if he was mildly offended. "What did you expect? Haruka herself was a pretty chill woman when I met her…" Then Saitama furrowed his eyebrows as he rubbed his chin. "Actually, I think Haruka is still younger than me, though… Oh, well." he ended up shrugging.
"What the hell, so how long did it take for you two to finally fuck?" Azazel asked again.
"Err, maybe a year- Wait, what are you asking?" When Saitama realised that it was Azazel who asked the question, he narrowed his eyes. "...You perverted old crow, the hell are you making me say?"
In response, Azazel simply grinned while wiggling his eyebrows, before barking in laughter. "Hahaha, chill! I was just kidding, you know? Still, looking back at your story, it reminds me of the days when I did spend with my past lovers under the same roof…" the Scapegoat sighed in nostalgia.
Saitama shrugged, "Eh, there are ups and downs with us living together; embarrassing moments, awkward moments, especially when people around the neighbourhood found out about me… Not to mention my old co-workers during my odd jobs."
However, as the guys were having fun talking and drinking, the door of the bar was opened, revealing five more individuals; with the most prominent one among them being a man with crimson red hair.
"Sirzechs?" Saitama greeted, albeit he did not expect the arrival. "I thought you're spending time with Milicas?"
"It took a while, but it seems Milicas ended up getting carried away and exhausted himself. My father just tucked him into bed." The Crimson Satan then grinned before revealing his servants - three men in their twenties and a tall, muscular man with spiky orange hair. "...And guess who had gotten themselves some free time to join us tonight?"
"Aha ha ha! Yea, we've ended the shite outta it!" the large man guffawed as he waved a bottle of Japanese sake like a trophy. "And b'hold! The godly nectar me brought!"
"We are glad we can finally join you, gentlemen." one of the men bowed respectfully. He was a Japanese-descent wearing a traditional set of kimono, hakama and haori. Attached on his hip was an ornate-looking katana.
"It took a good few days to finish them all, but yes, we've made it." another man explained with a weary sigh - he possessed brown hair and was clad in a suit.
"We could have finished much earlier if a certain barbarian understood more about the meaning of 'discretion'." The last man grumbled at his taller companion - this one was a skinny man with wavy blonde and black hair, he was clad in ornate crimson robe.
Saitama also waved at the new arrivals, "Ah; Sulfur, Souichiro, Bello and Mick-Jagger. Long time no see."
Azazel and Michael snorted while Sirzechs was flabbergasted (albeit in amusement) at Saitama's blunder. The four newcomers were definitely not amused.
"How the fuck did 'ja get ma name wrong, again!?" the tall man roared.
"It's Souji, Mr. Saitama." the samurai sighed with seemingly the patience of a saint.
"Will you please stop mispronouncing my name?! I! Am! Beowulf!" the man in suit yelled.
"It's-! Ugh, you know what? Nevermind, I've long since given up on correcting you." the man in crimson robe sighed.
Saitama then had Issei slapping his head. "Ouch, the fuck?!" He glared at his son as he rubbed his throbbing skull.
"Shut up, you had it coming." Issei merely retorted before he bowed while grabbing Saitama's head down as well. "I'm so sorry for my dad's impoliteness…. Mr. Surtr, Master Okita, Beowulf and Mr. Mathers."
There were Sirzechs' strongest Rook, Knight, Pawn and Bishop; Surtr The Second - the clone of the Norse Fire Giant who wields the sun of Gods of the Slain; Souji Okita - the master swordsman and first-division commander of the Shinsengumi during the Edo period; Beowulf - well, not the Beowulf who had slain Evil Dragon Grendel, but a descendant of one; and last but not least, MacGregor Mathers - a powerful mage who had helped in founding the Hermetic Order of The Golden Dawn, as well as compiling the book of Lemegeton about the 72 Pillars of Underworld.
The said servants seemed to calm down as they nodded at Issei's apology. "Been for'ver since last time we've seen each other, boy!" Surtr laughed, a sentiment that was shared by the rest of his peers.
"It is good to see you in good health, Mr. Hyoudou." Souji nodded as he smiled warmly at Yuuto, who had stood up and approached his sword master. "...And I'm glad to see you well, young Yuuto."
"Master." Yuuto bowed respectfully in return.
"Come on, don't just stand there, you lot!" Azazel then beckoned everyone to have a seat. "Sirzechs, you're just in for a treat; Saitama is telling us about how he knocked his wife up!" His words earned a frown from Saitama.
"Hey!"
"Seriously?" Sirzechs' eyes lit up, along with his peerage, and they wasted no more time to grab their seats and looked expectantly at the man, who sighed again in resignation. However, Sirzechs turned to Azazel for a second. "Oh, by the way, Azazel. My father will probably join us once he'd made sure that Milicas had fallen asleep. Can you reserve another spot?" The former fallen angel governor simply raised his drink in consent.
"...Fine, let's see… Where did I leave off? But just to let you know, it's kind of a boring story…" Saitama began again.
oXo
D'aaaww…..
As everyone had finished their baths and were changing in the locker room, the women were cooing at Haruka's story, who was smiling shyly. "That sounds very nice!" Asia commented while putting on a skirt.
"Yes, I think you and Saitama were pretty much married…. No." Reya Kusaka commented before pausing. "By the looks of what you did… Perhaps dating is the more correct term."
"Eh, close enough." Haruka shrugged as she threw over a shirt over herself.
"Then, then?! What happened afterwards?!" Gabriel was acting giddy as she finished drying her hair off.
"Geez, relax, Gabriel." Serafall lightly admonished as she handed her a bottle of milk. "Before we continue, it's customary in Japan that we need to drink milk after a nice bath! Everyone, pick your flavours once you're done!"
All girls then picked a bottle each with myriads of flavours - cream, chocolate, coffee, even many kinds of fruity flavour. They popped them open and chugged it in gusto, before sighing in bliss. "That certainly hit the spot…" Venelana remarked.
Yasaka nodded in agreement. "Truly, perhaps I should prepare these beverages in my hotspring back home, don't you agree, Kunou?"
"Yes, I would like chocolate in them, mother!" the young fox youkai's eyes were sparkling in excitement, garnering giggles from the older women around.
"Of course, sweetie." Yasaka took it in stride with a smile as she patted her daughter's head.
Soon enough, everyone was back in the living room again, hot beverages from tea to coffee had been situated for everyone. Grayfia took a quick look at her cell-phone before smiling to herself. "Did something good happen, dear sister?" Rias asked after noticing her sister-in-law's face.
"Nothing." Grayfia replied with her smile still on her face. "Sirzechs just told me Milicas had gone to bed after having too much fun, with Lord Gremory watching after him. He's currently joining the boys… with some of his peerage in tow."
"Is that so?" Rias' eyes widened in amusement. You know what, let me check on them real quick…" She then opened her own smartphone and typed several lines.
Few textings later, Rias' eyes lit up in amusement as she glanced up discreetly at Haruka, which did not go without notice to Akeno. "What is it, Rias?" She asked curiously.
Rias whispered to her Queen, "Ise just told me that Saitama is also in the middle of telling the story we've been listening to." the latter covered her mouth to conceal her squeal.
"What's wrong you two? Did something happen on the boys' side?" Haruka asked from her love-seat.
Rias and Akeno quickly put on their (not so) innocent smiles. "Nothing, the boys are having fun, ma'am." the former replied easily. "Rather, I want to hear more about your past with Saitama. What happened after where you left off?"
Haruka simply smiled sardonically as she took a sip of her hot tea. "Oh, dear…. I was hoping that you'll forget… But it can't be helped, I guess…"
The night was not over.
So, what do you think so far? Constructive reviews with no flames, please. Ahsoei, over and out.
