CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT

Four Months Later

The months went by and everyone took time to recover. Remus had spent a month away by himself as he regained control. He had felt so angry for several weeks and hadn't wanted to risk being around Teddy. Eventually though, he came back and the love for his child was enough to bring him back to his senses. He took Teddy, got a house near the Ministry and owled Hermione for a job interview in her department. The next day, he was right by Hermione's side, helping build the Magical Creatures Department.

Everyone else moved on with their lives. Harry proposed to Ginny a week after the battle with Fenrir. She cried and instantly accepted. They were happy, so happy. Even Ron and Luna were doing well four month after the battle. They were still an item and always together. Luna brought out a different side in Ron and it really was a pleasure to see.

And Hermione was just as tough as ever.

"Your bill has been passed," Kingsley, the Minister of Magic declared in the courtroom, standing in his seat. "The law now outlaws people from refusing jobs purely because the person is a werewolf. They must provide their employee with the funds to buy Wolfsbane potion and the business owner will be able to get the money back through their tax." Kingsley smiled up at Hermione from his seat below on the bench with other onlookers. She had pushed the bill through with Remus and together they had given evidence and fought for werewolves to have equal rights. The disease shouldn't mean they couldn't be encouraged to live a normal life, like everyone else.

Werewolf employees would have the responsibility to protect their clients and the people they worked with. They had to do their best to protect others from being infected. Now though, werewolves, part or full, had the chance at a good, normal life.

Hermione had many more bills to go.

"Well done, that was a tough bill to get through the courts," Remus said, pulling Hermione into a hug, mindful of her growing stomach. He was so much happier, recovered from what had happened in the last year. "How are you celebrating?"

"We're going to the Burrow; I'm meeting everyone there," Hermione told him. "Will you come? With Teddy?"

"I'll be there," Remus replied. He squeezed her shoulder one more time and then off he went to finish up his paperwork and then pick up his son.

Hermione made her way out of the courts and down the hallway. Her hand caressed the growing bump. It was a big bump and quite obvious was pregnant. She was just shy of twenty-four weeks pregnant. Well over half the way through the pregnancy. Her baby was strong and healthy, growing each day. They hadn't found out the gender, because they all wanted to wait until the birth. They were all so happy and looking forward to their future, as a family.

With a hand rubbing her stomach, Hermione stepped into the floo to return home.

She landed with a whoosh, her legs wobbling slightly at the travel. Her hand went to the fireplace as she regained her balance and let the dizziness pass.

"What percentage did you win by?" Bill grinned, moving towards his mate. He held out a hand, helping her out of the floo. He kept an arm around her waist, his fingers splayed over her stomach as they moved from the living room and into the kitchen.

"You're so sure I won?" Hermione pressed.

"Of course you won," Bill said with a roll of his eyes. "That was obvious. Plus, Charlie snuck in and had a peak at what was going on before he came home earlier. Said there wasn't a chance of it getting passed down."

"Seventy percent voted for the law to be passed," Hermione told him. "It's a really good result, considering the prejudice in the ministry against werewolves."

"Come on, you smart woman," Bill chuckled. He held the door open and allowed her to go inside first, with a hand on her back. Charlie was at the kitchen table, a smile on his face at the sight of her.

"Twins sent a letter earlier to say well done," Charlie told her. "They won't be able to make it back in time for the party later, but they knew you'd win." He made his way over to her and pressed a kiss to her cheek. "Well done, love. I saw you kicking their arses when I had a peek earlier. You looked hot on that stand. Pretty sure the other side wet themselves a little when you started with your statistics."

Hermione flushed and then pushed his chest with her hand. Charlie laughed and pulled her closer. His hand went to her stomach, a hand stroking the bump. The pack was always touching her stomach, caressing the place their baby was growing. Charlie had been the first to feel the baby kick, when she had snuggled into bed with him one night. Hermione had been asleep, but Charlie had been awake stroking her stomach when a tiny kick hit his palm. The boys had all been jealous, and Charlie held it over them for a few days. The twins had been gone for a while, so they hadn't seen her big bump or had the chance to feel the baby kick.

"They've been gone for nearly nine weeks," Hermione protested, "How long is this business deal?"

"Think they're setting up a few shops," Charlie shrugged. "Or at least seeing some buildings that could be good for a shop."

"They'll be back soon love," Bill promised. "Neville has been enjoying helping with the shop with Hannah. At least we haven't had to worry about covering that."

"Neville's going back to Hogwarts soon," Hermione reminded him. "And I'm pretty sure Hannah plans to go with him. The twins better come back soon. I don't think anyone besides the twins are crazy enough to tackle their potions and make their products. Did you see their potions list?"

Bill grimaced, "Yeah, I can see why they come home with burnt eyebrows all the time."

Hermione pressed a kiss to the both the boys lips and left them to get a change of clothing and to sort her hair out for the party. The Weasley's were celebrating Hermione's first law passing. They had been so confident the law would pass. It was one of many changes Hermione was planning to put forward to the Ministry.

With a quick shower, Hermione got dressed in a red dress that ended just below her knees. The front was dipped just enough to show a little bit of Hermione's new and expanding cleavage, thanks to the pregnancy. With her hair bunched up and pinned to the top of her head, she made her way down the stairs to join the boys. They were freshly dressed in nice, clean dress shirts and dark jeans, and sat in the same spot Hermione had left them in. It was completely unfair how quickly boys could get dressed.

Hermione had carried down her black heels, although there was barely a heel to them, but she liked to wear them and she didn't want to wear anything higher with the pregnancy. "It won't be long until I can't see my feet," Hermione complained, taking a seat besides Charlie. She placed the shoes at her side, then lifted her legs to lay them on Charlie's lap. "Help me with my shoes? Please?"

"Only because you can't bend over," Charlie joked. He grabbed the shoes and worked them on her feet, stopping every now and then to run his hand up her bare legs, dipping under her dress until he got a slap to the hand from Hermione.

"Will you two children behave?" Bill asked. He was leaning against the table, watching Charlie and Hermione play. Bill moved closer and pressed a kiss to Hermione's cheek, his hand moving to spray across Hermione's stomach. The baby rolled, it's foot kicked out against Bill's hand and he laughed, rubbing the spot where his child was pressing against his hand. "He's a little fighter."

"Or she," Hermione commented. "The baby's been a little quiet this week, more than normal. I would be worried if it wasn't for how active he or she got in a night."

"It's a pack baby," Bill replied. "The baby is already part of this pack, it has our blood. Maybe it can sense your unease at the twins being away. It's missing them, their voices, and the pack being together."

"Perhaps," Hermione agreed. "I miss them too."

"They're going to get a shock when they see your stomach," Charlie spoke up. He'd finished up both the shoes, and now was running his palms up and down Hermione's legs. He massaged her carves, easing some of the tension there from standing all day. "And your boobs. I'm sure they're going to love the addition to those girls when they get back."

"Don't be such a perv," Hermione said with narrowed eyes. "I hope they come home soon."

"They will," Bill promised. He tightened his hold on her stomach, pressing against their baby as the little thing moved then kicked out at the hand. "They won't want to miss this much longer than they have to."

A little while later they left for the Burrow. The boys insisted that Hermione floo'd everywhere, so Bill went first, then Hermione stepped up after he'd vanished. Charlie was waiting, watching. He looked nervous though, shuffling his feet and refusing to look her way. Both the boys had been odd tonight, something was off about their behaviour. Both of them been quieter than usual; even Charlie was less of his fun and upbeat self.

Hermione stepped in the floor, calling out the Burrow's name. She landed with a flourish, managing to keep on her feet, despite the way she swayed. The Burrow was pitch black, which was very usual. The door was open and Hermione made her way towards the light. It wasn't quite that late, so the darkness had to be a spell.

The Burrow door led out to the garden, which was lit by hundreds of candles. Bill was stood at the end of the candle trail, right at the bottom of the garden. He held his hand out towards Hermione. Cautiously, she made way down the path. "Bill?" Hermione asked, glancing around. There was no one else in sight, just the darkness from a spell, the hundreds of candles, and a very nervous looking Bill.

"We made you a promise a little while again Hermione," Bill explained. "All four of us made a promise to look after you and do our best to protect you. Now, Fenrir is gone, we're growing a family, and we're almost complete."

"Almost?" Hermione asked.

"You're missing two people," Charlie called, stood at the bottom of the path. Hermione gasped as she saw the two people stood behind him, the twins. They grinned at her, their eyes sparkling as they took in her appearance. Charlie made his way down the path, towards Hermione and Bill. The twins never moved though and stood firm in the place at the top of the garden path.

"They haven't been looking at new places to open up across the world," Bill confessed. "We lied."

"What?" Hermione frowned. "Why? Where have they been?"

"Those weren't the two people I was talking about," Charlie said, standing at Hermione's side. Hermione turned once again to look at the twins. This time, her focus wasn't on them. It was the two people stood behind them in the shadows. Fred and George stepped forward, revealing the real reason they had been gone for nine long weeks.

"We didn't want you having your first child without your parents here," Bill told her.

Hermione felt her eyes blur with tears. Her parents stepped forward into the light of the candles. They looked amazing;their skin was darker from the Australian sun, but they looked exactly as Hermione remembered them. Their eyes were shining with tears and Hermione couldn't stop herself; she ran down the path towards them. Her parents met her halfway, both of them wrapping their arms around their daughter.

"You remember me," Hermione cried, hugging them tightly. She had missed them so much, ithurt to remember them. She never thought she'd get them back, not with the Death Eaters and the memory loss. Even if she ever found them, she wasn't sure their memories would be easy to return. "I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry for doing that to you."

Her parents pulled back, Mrs. Granger wiped the tears from Hermione's eyes despite the fact the motherly figure had tears dripping down her own face. "Your father and I were hurt when we realised what had happened. Those two wonderful boys managed to get our memories back. It wasn't easy apparently, but they explained everything once we remembered you."

"We can understand," Mr. Granger went on. "We aren't happy with it, but we understand why you wanted to protect us. Your mother and I never wanted you in this war. That's the only reason we wanted to take you from this magic world, you have to understand that. We will always do everything we can to protect you."

"You don't need our protection," Mrs Granger smiled weakly. She hugged her daughter once more, then drew back to look down at Hermione's expanded stomach. "You'll be finding out for yourself soon when that little baby comes along, but parents may never agree with their children's decision. We will always love you Hermione. Just like you'll always love that baby."

"Even when she grows up, alters your memories and gets with far too many boys for my liking," Mr. Granger joked. It wasn't really a joke though and Hermione could see how conflicted her father was about the whole thing. After tonight, they would need to spend a lot of time together and work everything out. "Those two boys have spent a lot of time explaining everything. I will admit it took me a few days to calm down. But…"

"If it makes you happy," Mrs. Granger continued on for her struggling husband. "We're happy." She glanced back at the twins, who grinned at her and then turned back to her daughter. "They've very handsome and funny boys. They treat you right? All of the boys?"

"They treat me wonderfully," Hermione promised her mother. "So you know about the boys? About them all?" She felt a bit ill at the fact her parents knew she was in a relationship with all four boys. That had to be a hard conversation for the twins. "You're okay with it?"

"No," Mr. Granger admitted. "I will never be okay with it. But they explained what your options were, so it's a choice I can live with. I don't care if there's four of them, though. If they ever hurt you, I will take on all four of them. Is that understood?"

Hermione threw herself at her dad, then her mother. Oh how much she missed her parents. She was too emotional and happy with her parents to notice the twins passing by her, to join their brothers. Hermione pulled back, smiling at her parents. She wanted to spend days with them going over everything. "I love you so much," Hermione told them. "I never thought I'd see you again."

"We love you too," Mrs. Granger replied. She pulled back, looked at her husband and then continued. "Now, those boys didn't travel so many miles for us to take up all your time."

"They asked me a very important question," Mr Granger admitted. "I said no for a few days, but eventually, I said yes."

Hermione frowned at them, confused. Then, her mother wiped away her tears and turned her in the direction of the Weasley pack, Hermione's pack. Bill and Charlie were stood in the middle, with the twins standing either of their elder brothers. They were waiting for her.

On shaky legs, Hermione turned from her parents and walked down the path towards the boys. They all looked at her with such love. Her pack had done that for her, brought her parents back when she wasn't able to. Hermione wasn't able to travel so much and risk the baby. After finally giving into defeat, she agreed to wait until after the baby was born to find her parents. It was heartbreaking for her, knowing her mother wasn't going to be there when she had the baby.

"Look at you," Fred said, his eyes travelling over her. He focused on her stomach for a moment, before meeting her gaze. "You're so big."

Hermione gave a soft laugh, her voice still choked with tears.

"Oh when I say that I get an elbow in the gut," Charlie joked.

"Hermione," Bill said, finally, silencing the other boys. "We wanted to do this right. All of us have wanted to do this for a while. The twins went to get your parents because of the baby, and because we wanted to ask your father for permission first."

Hermione felt her heart pounding in her chest. Her breathing increased as she guessed what was coming. Oh god. They were doing it. They were giving her the happily ever after she never imagined she could get.

"Hermione," George spoke up finally. "We love you. We're going to spend the rest of our lives together and we want to do it properly."

"It doesn't matter who does it," Charlie said. "It doesn't marry which one of us has our name next to yours in the legal department. What matters is that we're together, a family."

"Will you marry us?" Fred asked. The boys were all on their knees, each holding a tin scrap of a circle. It was a ring, but it didn't look like an engagement ring.

"Of course I will!" Hermione replied, finding her voice.

"Thank Merlin," Fred joked. He moved forward and slipped his ring on Hermione's finger. Then, each in turn the other three boys did the same. The four small rings entwined together and started to move. There had been a diamond on the last ring which George had put on Hermione's finger. The four bands laced together, entwining to make a beautiful golden engagement ring. Anyone looking at it wouldn't have guessed it had once been in four pieces, but to Hermione, it was even more special; it was four entwined bands to representent how much her four mates loved her.

"I love you," Hermione whispered, to all of them. They hugged, kissed, and whispered words of love. She welcomed the twins back, crying as they felt her stomach and whispered words of shock over how much her body had changed in their absence.

After a few moments together, the darkness spell was lifted and everyone else Hermione cared about began to appear. They partied, celebrated surviving another battle. Her parents spoke with the Weasleys and Harry, because they could remember them from their previous years before the war.

The twins had travelled across Australia finding her parents. Then, they had travelled with the confused muggles across the world to find someone that could reinstall the memories they had once lost. A medi-witch in Africa had finally done it.

Finally, Hermione had everything. Love, her parents, a baby on the way and her pack. Everything was perfect.

"Her parents are so calm," Charlie observed, glancing at the twins. "They're really okay with all four of us?"

"Sure," George agreed, giving Hermione a fake smile. She narrowed her eyes and glanced at Fred.

"Is now the wrong time to mention the sedative potion we gave them?" Fred mock whispered. Hermione turned just in time to see George doing a cutting action with his hand against his throat, trying to get Fred to shut up.

"Opps… nevermind," Fred said, turning to distract Hermione with a kiss.
