Chapter Two

***Serena's POV***

Homework for the evening was slow going. Every time I tried to work a bit farther into the problem my ego inflated itself and I gloated. For anyone who has ever tried to figure out an imaginary number equation with an inflated ego has never truly lived.

I finally threw the eraser smudged paper across the room, not really caring what my grades were. Why start now right? Of course, I didn't mean to throw the textbook with the paper and pencil and as heavy things tend to do when thrown, it crashed into my wall causing quite a disturbance in the Tsukino household peace and quiet.

Luna, who'd been napping mere feet from where the book had fallen, jumped up and hissed at me. "Gods Serena! Are you trying to kill me?"

I sighed. "Luna if I had wanted to kill you I could have found so much more enjoyable ways to do it."

She looked at me, her red eyes narrowing. "Yes, I seem to remember the picture of the decapitated black cat some time back. It wouldn't have been nearly as disturbing if not for the caption above it." she said shuddering at the memory.

I smiled evilly. "Ah, yes. One of my better ones. I believe it was 'Luna-kabobs...Food and Fun for the whole Family'."

Luna looked a bit perturbed. "Yes, well..." she stammered. I'd successfully unnerved the unnerve-able.

My phone began to ring suddenly and I didn't feel much like talking. I decided to just let my machine get it. I heard my voice on the recording shortly after, and I heard myself singing, "My loneliness is killing me! And I...I must confess, I still believe (still believe) when I'm not here to take your caaaaal...Hit me baby at the beep!" Fine so I had plenty of free time. Besides, I kind of liked that song before MTV went into overkill with it.

"Sereeeena?" a voice drawled. "Sereeeeeeeeena...? I know you're in there." said a sing-song-y voice that could only belong to Mina Aino. Suddenly her tone changed to normal. "Okay fine! Call me later though. Bye girl."

I shot the machine a thumbs up and grinned. "Yeah...it's not likely."

Luna gave me her 'You need to be more responsible and you deserve a lecture right about now' look. "Why on earth did you do that?"

"Simple." I answered her. And in my own mind it was quite simple. It was simply this. I wanted nothing to do with youma, the park, or transformations at this very moment. I intended however not to tell Luna. So I looked at her as seriously as I possibly could and sang in that hauntingly scary voice, "I'll never tell."

Her reply? A simple growl sufficed.

***Darien's POV***

Andrew's actions were beginning to make me regret I'd ever mentioned the fact that Serena was infatuating. In fact, I'd been so purposely subtle when I'd said it that there was no way that one could possibly guess so much more into it without inside information that one should not have known. But what disturbed me was that there was no real inside information, that is...unless you counted that shoebox under my bed.

Pride is what causes me to hide it well and never speak of it. It is in fact a "Serena Box." On the outside it is a plain old shoebox with nothing even slightly conspicuous about it. Inside, however, was a very different story. It held three pictures of Serena that I'd successfully managed to get my hands on without being discovered. Her ditzy friend Mina was mostly responsible. Aside from the photos, it contained a ribbon that had fallen from one of her 'Meatballs' during one of our daily catastrophes that usually ended in me lying flat on my back, a note to Mina that Serena had written to her (one of my favorite items), and a list of everything I knew for certain about her. Which wasn't really that much. I knew her GPA (not very impressive), her least favorite food (carrots...doesn't she know how healthy they are?), and her blood type (O. I'm not too sure how I acquired this information. I don't really know.).

The note read:

Mina!! Help what am I going to do???- Serena

Ignore it...he'll go away. - Mina

BUT I DON'T WANT HIM TO GO AWAY!!! -Serena

Personally I really can't blame you for that one. Way to go girl! - Mina

WHO ARE U 2 TALKING ABOUT...DARIEN?!?!?!- Raye

NO! NO! NO!- Serena

Do you think she suspects something Sere?- Mina

WELL DUH!-Serena

So did this mean she liked me or not? Should I take this as a good sign? Maybe I should ignore it. Oh she drives me so insane!
