The man's neck broke with a crack, the hand over his mouth stifling his cry, and he was lowered to the ground. Working quickly, he stripped off his heavy brown jacket and struggled into it. It was slightly too big for him, but it would do for now. Shoving his hands into the pockets, he strolled towards the largest tent and lifted the flap. Inside, a heavyset man was seated behind a crude wooden table, staring at a map that was spread out in front of him.
'Who the hell are you?' He snapped, coming to his feet as the brown-haired youth stepped inside the tent. 'Get out before I...ah.'
He stopped as the youth drew a pistol from under his jacket and aimed it squarely between his eyes, pulling the trigger before he could move...
Heero's finger tightened on the trigger, the gunshot harsh and sharp as the man fell. Slowly, he walked round the desk and levelled the pistol again, looking down at his lifeless eyes staring back up at him. He stayed there for a moment before holstering the gun and slipping quietly towards the entrance of the tent. The noise of the camp should have covered the sound of the shot, but he wasn't going to take any chances. He was about to risk a look when another man entered, his eyes widening as he saw Heero and the body of the floor.
'What the hell...?' He yelled, stepping back, with his eyes wide. He turned to run, but Heero sprang forward, his knife-hand strike catching him across the throat and he collapsed with a gurgle, his face turning purple as he struggled to draw breath. Without a glance, he stepped past the dying man and slipped out into the night...
I hate night patrol. Takanura thought, stifling a yawn. Stuck in this damn cockpit for hours. It's not like anything is going to...huh?
He looked up as he HUD flashed, automatically releasing the safety on his machine gun, but he couldn't see anything. The first warning he had was when he heard the roar of engines and, by then, it was too late. Before he could react, two Leos were destroyed by precise bursts of machine gun fire as a winged shape roared over head.
'What the hell is that?' He yelled, raising his rifle to sweep the sky, the dark shape diving towards them.
'Who cares?' He heard Sukihara bark over the radio, as his Leo moved to his flank. 'Shoot it down!'
Machine gun fire split the silence of the night, their bullets slicing through the air towards the fighter. At the last second, it rolled sideways, their rounds passing harmlessly through the air where it had just been. And then it happened. As Takanura watched, it changed shape in mid-air, becoming a much more familiar form.
A mobile suit...
It hung in the air, wings spread behind it, one hand aiming an oversized gun towards them, the end glowing with an orange energy.
Oh my god...
Takanura turned to flee, pushing his Leo towards the treeline as fast as he could. However, he only got a few steps before the wave of energy engulfed him and he knew nothing more...
Heero sat back in the cockpit seat, turning to the console to his left, his fingers flying over the keys.
