Even though it had been years since that fateful day, Kazuma couldn't help shiver sometimes when Yato's glowing ethereal eyes turned to him. He couldn't help but remember how he had thrown himself at Yato's feet, under that gaze, begging for the god to kill his family. The fall in his stomach when the god asked for payment; why else would he do something like kill the shinki of the supreme god of war.

It almost seemed like a nightmare, the memory of the stray asking for his name and the words consider yourself indebted. The memory always made him hold his name to his chest, if Yato hadn't decided to do that Kazuma would have had to give his name back.

Yes, it was almost pathetic, how much fear those icy cold eyes instilled in him.

Yukine would laugh if he found out that Kazuma was afraid of Yato. The blond shinki didn't understand how lucky he was to only know this Yato and hear about the previous one. He didn't know how thankful he should be to not have Kazuma's memories of the man standing over his vulnerable form deciding whether he deemed Kazuma worth killing as payment for the job given.

Bishamon would scoff at the fear too. Despite the fact that she had hunted Yato for years, Yato had never really considered her an enemy and tried to escape instead of fight her. Maybe that was why she never seemed to understand that Yato is much more than some goofy idiot.

The only one who could possibly understand how Kazuma felt is Daikoku who had asked something of Yato back in that time frame as well. But then again, maybe not from how the shinki ruthlessly attacked the god without hesitation. Kazuma doesn't think he could possibly bring himself to attack the black haired male; he was probably about to be killed for trying to get information from Yukine.

You wouldn't want to make an enemy out of me. The cold gaze was back then, and Kazuma was forced to accept the reality; Yato was never going to be anything but intimidating. And the words were clear about one thing, he was not being regarded in the nicest light at the moment.

Good, that means I'm not an enemy yet. He was definitely relieved to know that his benefactor and nightmare had not decided he was an enemy yet; he was practically shaking in his attempt to appear casual about it.

If Yato noticed the shaking or the fake casualness, he didn't mention. He either didn't care or guessed Kazuma remembered exactly what it meant to be on the other side of Yato's sword. Either way it didn't matter, Kazuma would continue on with his tentative friendship with Yato as long as Yato choose to not come for Kazuma's life debt.
