The sand is everywhere and all Poe Dameron can think about is BB-8, and how royally screwed he is, and how Finn is nowhere to be found, and where is his damn jacket.

But there aren't any answers, there's just sand. Sand everywhere. He's stranded on this stupid sandy planet and he has no idea where he's going or what he's doing.

Poe decides that he hates this planet.

He's wandering around and he wonders just how much time he's wasted. He needs to find BB-8 and Finn and get back to headquarters.

But he's so stupid and he's the best pilot of the Resistance and he completely messed up-.

But he sees it. He sees this person in drapery clothing and hauling this mass of junk behind them and he thinks that this it. Either salvation or extermination and he doesn't care either way because he is so so tired of this sand.

And the person approaches him, and he sees it out of the corner of his eye. BB-8. Suddenly he doesn't care about this person being on the light side or dark side or any side because, God, they have BB-8!

And he's running and the droid is coming toward him and the person stops to take in the scene. Poe pats BB-8 and he can't believe this because maybe just maybe his luck is turning around and-.

The person clears their throat-or rather, her throat- and Poe finally looks up to meet her in the eyes and my God is she a sight to see. She's got beautiful brown hair and cupid bow lips and a small angular face and she's just so pretty-.

Poe remembers his words and introduces himself. "Poe Dameron," he says, giving a little bow. "I see you found BB-8. I can never thank you enough."

And the girl smiles and he's drowning and my god how do girls like this even exist-.

"I'm Rey," she says. "But I'm sure you're quite tired of this sand. You're welcome to come to my home with me, if you'd like."

She's hesitant and he can tell but her offer is so sincere that he just has to. He nods and follows her to her home. They sit and tell stories and she learns he's a pilot and she thinks that's the best thing in the world and he can almost feel himself blushing and he's so embarrassed because God he hasn't talked to a girl like this in ages. And he's been so concentrated on the Resistance that he hasn't even thought these things in such a long time and god he's so glad that she's the one who found his droid.

She tells him that she wants to fly and he sees that look in her eyes and he just knows that she would be a good pilot and he would give anything to teach her. But then he remembers his duties and he has to get back to the Resistance and they need to find Luke and he just can't breathe.

He spends the night in her home and she sleeps by his side and he wonders what it would be like if he were different and they had met in some other way and if there wasn't so much conflict between the dark side and the light and he just wishes things were different.

The next morning they walk toward town. Her hair shines brightly in the sun and is a stark contrast to the sand and Poe wants to run his fingers through it because my god does her hair look soft-.

And they finally make it to town and they find Finn- and also Poe finds that Finn has his jacket and it suits him so it's Finn's jacket now- and everything is crazy and they steal a ship. Poe lets Rey drive and my god she's good even though she hasn't been formally trained and all he can think about is how pretty she is when she piloting and god he should really get over this attraction but he can't and it's probably not okay but he doesn't even care.

He casts a look back toward the sandy planet as they finally get into space.

Poe decides that Jakku isn't such a bad planet after all.
