First work back, it was fun writing this. I actually had this drafted like a year ago but just lost the will to even flesh it out. But hey, it's finally here! Hope you guys enjoy it! :)
They were first spotted together one morning in Hargeon, the home of Mermaid Heel. A mistake on both parts admittedly. Whenever they went on missions together they usually parted ways after it was completed. Well... that's how it appeared, until now that is.
Rogue had stayed over the night after him and Kagura once again had completed another job together with ease — and with no loss of money from property damages, bonus — because she didn't want him riding on a train late at night. Not because she didn't think he couldn't handle himself if he were to be in danger, more so not wanting him to pass out on the train due to motion sickness and end up in the middle of nowhere.
The quietly prideful dragon slayer felt somewhat insulted at his girlfriend's bluntness and slight incapableness , yet soon perked up when Kagura asked if he wanted to shower with her.
Neither of them understood how they got away with seeing one another on the down low, being handed a flawless cover up as the guild masters had set up a system to have their guild members mingle more with one another, such as going on joint job requests whether it be two people of a team. Something about being more cohesive as a country, forming alliances with different guilds, gaining new acquaintances and strengthening bonds with one another.
Bonds were certainly being strengthened.
The first mission they were paired on was a quiet one, neither of them talking if it wasn't regarding the mission, any other time would be Kagura talking to Frosch if she asked anything. However the more times they were on jobs together, the more they opened up to one another, conversation between the pair flowing easily. The pair enjoyed one another's company to the point where they frequently took longer missions, just for that extra time. The missions were simple for the pair, acknowledging that either one was more than capable of looking out for themselves. As time went on looks lingered, conversations got deeper and they were a little too comfortable with one another.
It was six months into their established friendship that there was a shift in their relationship.
A simple job; dealing with a gang which had been reeking havoc on a small village a few miles from their base. They were instantly dealt with, however Rouge had to go dragon force whilst Kagura unsheathed Archenemy, something she hadn't done in awhile. They had both underestimated just how many were in the gang, nonetheless it was done.
Six Months Earlier
Kagura glanced around the room, heartbeat racing as they had finally taken care of the gang. A quick flick of her wrist removed some of the blood from the blade off of the katana before sheathing it. She took a glance at the dragon slayer beside her, her breath getting caught in her throat.
Dragon force.
She had seen him enter dragon force several times, but there was something about it this time what made her truly look. The intricate dark scales which covered his face; from his forehead, to around and under his eyes, from the sides of his face to his jaw, extending down towards his neck before being cut off by the collar of his shirt. It had Kagura wondering just how much did the scales from his dragon force cover. Get that thought out of your head, right now. She blinked before feeling her cheeks flush as Rogue was staring back at her with a smirk and a look in his eyes she was unfamiliar with. Good job, he caught you gawking at him. She mentally cursed herself for doing such a thing, feeling unprofessional.
Kagura glanced down at the floor, scuffing her boot on the floor only for a hand be placed under her chin before tilting her head up, feeling the pressure of his lips against hers, tongue instantly seeking hers. He pulled her flush against him, heat radiating from him as his hand rested on her hip. She lifted a hand up to his neck, fingers trailing along the line of scales running down his neck, causing Rogue to groan against her lips as he broke the kiss. He leant his forehead against hers, eyes closing as he exhaled deeply, dragon force slowly fading. Looking back at Kagura, biting her lip as she looked up at him, his hand coming to rest underneath her chin once again, thumb prying her bottom lip from her teeth. He couldn't bare her staring at him in such a way without wanting to take her right here.
As the adrenaline wore off and he was finally off of the rush of taking the gang out he became more aware of what had just happened, he had just kissed her. Kagura. He gulped, somewhat regretting being bold. Her blank expression also had him fearing for the worst, was he going to be joining the pile of bodies on the floor after she decapitates him?
"I'm sor—" he was cut off by Kagura's lips pressing against his, with a rush of pent up feelings behind it.
Kagura broke the kiss briefly, "I don't mind."
Present Day
This was their cover for the past three months to hide their budding relationship; partnering with one another on jobs, yet also being careful to partner up with other people to not make it too suspicious. It's ben a fool-proof plan, no one had batted an eye or questioned the relationship between the Sabertooth dragon slayer and Mermaid Heel's swordswoman — not that anyone would want to, unless they wanted a sword shoved into their chest. Neither of them wanted the attention which came with announcing their relationship, as both of them remembered the chaos that Cana and Laxus endured when it got out to Sorcerer Weekly that they were together. They titled it as the 'scandal of the year'. The outcry from Laxus' fangirls crying that their favourite lightning mage was off-limits, and the backlash Cana got from it.
"Fuck 'em, I'm the one who gets to sleep with him at the end of the day," Cana laughed, yet could tell that some of their horrible words had hurt her in some way.
Kagura was aware of how many fans, women especially, were fond of the Twins Dragons of Sabertooth, and once the guild had reformed and Sting had took over the role of guild master, it had gained them even more popularity. She knew there was going to be backlash when they do go public with their relationship, if they even get the chance to do it themselves. Heck if it gets out it may top Laxus and Cana's relationship being exposed. Kagura had already had Risley breathing down her neck, making subtle comments with the amount of jobs she had been on with the dragon slayer, yet she brushed it off as a mere coincidence. "Sting just hates me, so he pairs me up with people from his guild out of spite," Kagura shrugged off.
Could she handle the attention that would come with it?
"Kagura?"
Kagura stiffened, lips pressing into a thin line as she resisted the urge to curse. She knew that voice all too well; tone light, playful and way too cheery for this time of a morning. Millianna. The ace turned around to see her close friend and guild mate, yet she wasn't alone. At her side was that weird reporter, Jackson was it? She couldn't really care to learn his name, all she knew was to avoid him at all costs.
"I've been looking for you everywhere! I went to your house but you weren't there." the brunette pouted.
"Sorry, I had a few errands to run."
Kagura had heard Millianna knock the door, but being face down letting out incoherent words and moans which were being muffled by a pillow, ass in the air whilst Rogue gripped her hips, pounding into her from behind, was currently occupying her time.
Apparently, being fucked into the mattress by the dragon slayer for the good part of the morning was an errand now.
An errand she would indulge in time and time again.
"It's okay! I know you're always super busy, but Sorcerer Weekly want to do a section on our guild for next weeks magazine and they want to interview—"
"Not interested."
Millianna and Jason's shoulders sagged at the sudden shutdown from Mermaid Heel's top mage.
"So not cool!"
Kagura refrained from rolling her eyes at the blonde reporter, "I'm sorry but I have other things to do today."
"But Kagura you—" Millianna's whining stopped once she took notice of the person coming out of the coffee shop. "Wait, aren't you—"
"The shadow dragon slayer, Rogue Cheney! How cool!" Jason exclaimed, waving his arms around like an excited child at Christmas.
Kagura turned her head and low and behold there he was, standing beside the small group with two to-go cups in hand and a slight panicked look in his eyes. Rogue looked like he was about to drop the cups and shadow his way out of this impending mess.
Quite frankly she wouldn't blame him if he did.
"What brings you down here?" Millianna asked, knowing that the dragon slayer has never been around the port area of Fiore, where Mermaid Heel was based.
If only she knew that he had been here more times than she could imagine.
Rogue blinked before glancing at Kagura's guild mate with a look of indifference, "Finished a job just outside of town, thought I'd come and grab a coffee before I travel home," he replied. He wasn't wrong, he had finished a job just outside of town, no lies told here. However Millianna kept her eyes on him, squinting slightly as she tried to read him.
"Two cups of coffee?"
"I'm running low on energy."
The binding magic user was aware of Risley's ribbing of Kagura having more jobs with Rogue, and had thought about the idea of Kagura dating someone, to which she came to the conclusion that it would be nice for her best friend to find happiness in her life. But could she see her with the shadow dragon slayer? Maybe? Millianna wasn't aware of who was and who wasn't Kagura's type — apart from Sting Eucliffe, Kagura had a strong dislike towards Sabertooth's guild master. It was also definitely not Lyon Vastia from Lamia Scale, she had no idea where or how that rumour was started, but knew that the slightly dramatic, arrogant ice-make mage was not for Kagura. Last time she heard about him, he was apparently chasing round some woman with long, pink hair. But Rogue Cheney? Maybe. Millianna was questioning whether if to set up a date between them and see where it goes. But for right now she'll just let it go. Finally blinking she shrugged, "Oh, cool," she replied.
"This is SO cool! Rogue Cheney and Kagura Mikazuchi in the same place at the same time!" Jason exclaimed, once again waving his arms around in excitement.
Kagura glanced at Rogue, his eyes locking with hers before the pair glanced at the reporter with blank expressions.
"How are two of the best mage's in the same place?! This is CRAZY! Are you guys...? He questioned, only to get answers before he could finish the question.
"I'd rather drink bleach."
"With him? I'd rather have Lyon Vastia as a partner and have to listen to him ramble and brag about how amazing he is."
"Oh…" the reporter blinked, shoulders sagging as he scribbled out the note he had wrote as soon as he saw them both together. Guess the scoop on the potential romance between Sabertooth's one half of the Twin Dragon's and Mermaid Heel's ace was dead before he even had a chance to make it into an article for the gossip pages.
Millianna shifted on her feet awkwardly, "Hey Jason, I'll see if I can get another one of the girls for an interview," she suggested, pulling the reporter away from the two mage's who were having a current glaring contest with one another.
Kagura watched as the two disappeared into town, heading for the guild and making sure they were no longer in sight before turning back towards the dragon slayer whose glare had turned into a playful smirk. "You'd rather drink bleach, huh?" she asked, feigning a look of hurt as Rogue handed over her cup of coffee.
"You said you'd rather have Lyon as a partner, that struck me in my heart and I don't appreciate it," Rogue huffed, rolling his eyes at her insult. He brought up the cup to hide his smile. He let out hiss as at the still hot drink before letting out a sigh. "Well that situation was avoided easily..."
"Someone is going to catch on sooner or later," Kagura said. They both knew that they were playing risky, especially with how a reporter had managed to clock them at the same time, it had also become exhausting hiding their relationships behind missions so they could spend time with one another. "Unless we just come out with it ourselves."
Rogue nodded, agreeing with her.
"Can't wait for your fangirls to hate me," Kagura joked.
The dragon slayer snorted, "More like your fanboys wanting to fight me."
