While wiping down a table, Raeger glanced outside the window not surprised to see Annie being carried by both Marian and Angela. It had become a common sight for everyone in Oak Tree, the new farmer working herself to the point of exhaustion everyday- it had even gotten to the stage that Angela and various others would go and check on Annie each day.
The first time Raeger remembered seeing Annie unconscious outside the Guild Hall, dread built up deep inside until Veronica assured him that Annie would be fine and it was nothing out of the ordinary. Despite that assurance, he still felt his heart leap to his mouth each time he spotted the young farmer, her actions never changing even though she had made many promises of not working herself too hard.
Another shock came when she admitted to Raeger over a meal eaten at an indescribable speed that she hardly has time to eat, the looking over her growing expanse of animals and crops taking up the majority of her time, along with her scavenging the mountain paths for various items and the diving into rivers, which Raeger did think was very careless.
Whenever she came into his restaurant Raeger made sure he put a little bit extra on her plate, if only as well to say thank you for the seaweed she kept stocking him up with. He was determined to make sure she ate enough to keep her going for the day, not trusting her when she promised she had a small meal waiting at home; after she had watered her crops, again.
So, when he began to lose count of the amount of times he saw Annie being carried into the Guild Hall, he decided to do something about it.
Whenever Raeger had spare time during his day, he prepared a meal just for Annie, packed full of nutrients and anything that would keep her full for at least a few hours. When it came to Raeger's break in the middle of the day, he made sure to trek up to Annie's farm and leave her with the food. On the odd day she wasn't there he would leave it in front of her door and pray to the Harvest Goddess that one of her pets wouldn't become interested with it.
She came to thank him after the first few days, offering to pay for what he had left but he refused, saying adamantly that her health was much more important than her money. From that day on, less and less was seen of unconscious Annie in the village, and Raeger was left with a belly full of growing butterflies the day she came in with a home-made sea urchin bowl to offer her gratitude.
AN - So I must admit, I used to be one of those players who was too lazy to eat and restore my stamina, resulting in me fainting before I even noticed. I now pay much more attention, but this one shot was inspired by that.
