almost planned a future together
Azula thought she may be in love, and it both repulsed and horrified her.
Love was like water. Water got rough. You could drown under its surface.
Love was like fire. Fire got too hot. You could burn to ashes in the passion.
Love was like air. Air got thin. You could suffocate in the absence of your love.
Love was like earth. Earth got shattered. You could lose yourself in the landslide of emotion.
And yet there Ty Lee stood, admitting it, admitting it so openly. She could confess her love with an ease that Azula both envied and pitied.
"Please let me love you again. I think we'll make it this time. I really do." Ty Lee was on the verge of getting on her knees and begging. It was almost cute, almost convincing.
But Azula knew she had to stay strong.
"We never make it. We never have a good enough plan for that." She privately congratulated herself on not letting her voice tremble.
Ty Lee's eyes welled with tears. "I can't imagine my future without you. So let's plan one together."
Azula would like that. She would desperately love to plan a future with Ty Lee.
"Why would you want to plan a future with me?"
"Because I want you," said Ty Lee. "All of you. Your flaws, your mistakes, your imperfections. I want you and only you."
"But I don't want you," lied Azula.
It ended.
That version of the future was no more.
