Chapter Ten
Changing Fates
His hair flew around his face, lengthening even as his canines sharpened into pointy little fangs. His body grew till he stood at a solid six feet seven inches. A white cape materialized behind him as his armor shifted around his body. The metal shoulder, forearm, calf, and thigh all converged together onto his hands and forearms in gauntlets that glowed white. The white half of his suit shrunk and down until only the letter P in a D was left over his heart. His boots and belt were left to remain in the color of white.
That all stopped a moment later when their energy stopped and settled within the body, leaving him floating behind the now melted puddled of ice. Above him stood the monster Vlad, watching him with wary eyes. "So this is what you must be feeling?" He questioned, his voice deep and growly. "All of this power in your body coalescing into one being, combining to create something so much better."
He knew that this was also what Dan had felt when he had combined with Vlad, but this was so different. IT wasn't a struggle to keep his mind this time around, wasn't a struggle to stay separate. Their memories were shared, yes, along with their bodies and power, but they were still separate. They were still thinking separate into two beings in their minds.
"Now we have all this power and we're going to destroy you once and for all!" He growled as he looked up with those toxic green eyes, hair falling around his face and fangs bared, ready for a fight.
TeenTitans
A roar bounced around them as Beast Boy suddenly launched himself forward, only to be stopped by a white force field. "I wish you'd get a hold of yourself already." The time ghost stated with a roll of his eyes even as he trapped the Beast in the sphere and made sure he wouldn't get out.
"He can't help it!" Raven growled as she flew straight at the shield. "Release him! You're only making it worse!"
Tucker sighed and shook his head. "I cannot. He will try and interfere with the fight and I do not intend to listen to him wailing against my shield the entire time." He explained before turning back just in time to watch the newly formed Phantom shoot up into the air. "This fight will begin to get much worse, hold steady and stay calm, nothing shall happen to you as long as I hold my barrier."
"Yeah, and how strong exactly is this barrier?" Flash tapped at it, just slightly nervous about the color. IT reminded him of when he had gone beyond the speed force. It wasn't very comforting at all.
The ghost just smiled and turned back towards the battle, knowing it would annoy the other more than anything else.
Batman frowned at this as he too turned to watch the battle. "Now I understand why you call it annoying when I do that."
Superman and Robin both nodded their heads in agreement before turning back to the battle at hand as well.
They couldn't miss what would happen during this battle or they just might miss the end of the world.
Or the saving of it.
DannyPhantom
"You didn't think I would just let you destroy everything, now did you?" He questioned as he slammed his entire body forward and into the monster's body. "I can't let you destroy everything that I've ever fought for."
Plasmius roared out in pain as he was sent stumbling backwards, just as a blast of green energy plowed into his face. "I…" He roared out as he clawed at his face. He fought against it though and forced his eyes open once more to glare down at the figure of his enemy. "Win!"
Phantom stared at the monster that had once been his strongest enemy and ally in the past. Bright toxic green eyes stared for a long moment before a chuckle ripped from his lips. Seconds later loud and boisterous laughter fell from his lips as he covered his eyes and flung his head back. "Oh god!" He roared out himself as his memories showed how arrogant and foolish this man had been in the past. Even now, he hadn't changed at all. "You complete imbecile!" He roared back as he shot off more blasts.
The other blocked them though, with a giant clawed hand. Plasmius snarled as he lunged forward with a swipe of his hands.
Phantom dodged easily though, thanks to his smaller size he was quicker than the slow moving giant. The beast couldn't move anywhere near as fast him, but it was apparent that his defense was much higher as his attacks were hardly doing damage. Even with their combined form, The Phantoms' powers still weren't enough.
"Guess I'll have to play at this smart instead of brute force." He grunted as he avoided a swipe of those clawed feet. With that thought in mind, he moved forward in an arc around the other, grinning as he dug his claws into the ground and released energy at the same time.
The arc exploded with energy and unbalanced Plasmius exponentially, sending him stumbling backwards. Phantom didn't waste a second of it as he blasted himself forward and pulled on his core, just like he had learned to do so long ago.
He reached forward for the heat of lightning and fire that had cloaked his core for so long, ready to burn this monster to the ground with his power.
Only for cold to wash out from his core and into his body, flooding him entirely and frosting his breath. This was nothing like what he had been when he had first summoned his elemental powers. It hadn't been overwhelmingly cold but a firestorm of heat that had nearly burnt him from the inside out.
He had almost destroyed himself with the fire he had summoned that day.
Now it was a different heat. A heat that was so blisteringly cold that it burned along his veins from his core. He watched with wide eyes as frost appeared along his hands before a bright blue energy appeared in his palms.
This had never happened before and now he could only stare even as his body catapulted from his previous speed and into the ground behind the great beast.
Memories of his time as Dan Phantom flowed into their minds and both watched as fire flowed from his hands and burned everything around him, even his own flesh. It had been unbearable and it was even worse because he was on his own,
This time though, Dan was determined to control this power. Danny was right there with him, neither wanting to be hurt by this new ability they hadn't known about.
'We need to work together here.'
'I know. You know how to control the more elemental abilities.' It was a thought that Danny hated admitting to but there was no other choice. He had to allow the other Phantom to take control at this point.
With that the combined body of the two smirked greatly and allowed the blue energy to engulf his hands as he stood back up. He ignored the frost that climbed up his arms and turned to stare at the monster. 'This is going to be fun.' He thought as he shot back up into the air, ignoring how his legs turned into a wisp to increase his speed.
He aimed his hands straight at the beast's face as he released the blast of energy, exclaiming in excitement as ice spread from the place of impact just above the eyes to down below his nose.
"I didn't have ice before." He muttered to himself as he took a surprising comfort in the cold even as he dodged a blinded swipe of the beast.
'But you did.' Danny spoke up. 'Before you bonded with the Plasmius back then, you did.' The memory of Phantom holding swords of ice at Dan's neck came back in startling clarity. 'You lost it when you bonded with Plasmius and it became fire instead due to his heat core. We've always been more of a snow and ice person anyways.'
Which was true. They had hated summer more than they had winter, even if Christmas had been during the winter, they had enjoyed the snow more than the heat. Even now, they could remember hiding away from the heat in their house while they played outside in the snow as often as they could get away with.
"Well, guess we can go off what you know about this then." He muttered as he shot off towards the floor, that ice cold power flowing once more as he aimed at the beast's feet next. He managed to freeze one to the ground just as the sound of steam came from above.
He looked up just in time to take eyebeams to the face and shove him into the ground. He grunted in agony as he stared up at the monster of their past. Vlad had always been powerful, even before he had been separated from his human and before he had faked his death. It was even more apparent now that he had fused with his alternate reality self.
He knew this battle was going to be difficult, but Phantom was now just truly realizing how horrible this battle could end up being.
That didn't mean he had to lay there and take it though.
He growled low in his throat as he forced his body up and out of the rubble. "We need to end this fast. We can't keep taking hits like this." He muttered as he felt his body shudder at the hit he had taken. Too many more of those and it wouldn't matter that they had fused at all, they would die here and now and the world could very well be destroyed.
Then a though flashed in their mind, a thought they both shared and knew could very well happen. It would take a lot of energy but they could do it as long as they focused and allowed their abilities, experience, and power to combine seamlessly. They had been doing fine so far but this would test their abilities to the limits.
Well…it was now or never they guessed.
With that in mind they shot right into the air, their body surrounded by bright blue energy. They allowed the cold to encase them entirely as they came face to face with Vlad, slamming their body forward into his face only a second later. He didn't wait around though and shot away once the other was off balanced.
Once he was sure Vlad was too busy trying to lessen the pain to his face, he prepared for his real attack. He set his shoulders, widened his stance, and pulled in a deep breath. He concentrated his cold energy into his lungs a moment later and closed his eyes deep in concentration.
Then he screamed as loud as he possibly could.
Cold rushed across his tongue and teeth and lips. He could hear Vlad screaming in pain and horror. He could just imagine the pain the older man was feeling as he felt the chilling burn in his veins and washing over his mouth and lips. It hurt but he had to do this, he had to finish this fight.
It didn't matter if he ended up hurting himself as this meant that this would be the end of this nightmare once and for all.
So he screamed more and more for as long as he could.
The cold was getting worse the longer he screamed. His lungs felt like icebergs and his body felt like it had been buried in ice and snow. He was sure his skin was nothing but ice at this point but he wasn't going to let up until he was completely sure they had him.
He wasn't sure how long that would take though. He wasn't sure he'd be able to hold it to terribly much longer.
He could feel what felt like needles stabbing his lungs and ice tearing his veins apart. HE wouldn't be able to hold for much longer.
'I need to breathe.'
Damn, make that he had to breathe now or the human was going to completely asphyxiate.
He released his hold on their power and took in a long and hard breath. He took another as his finally opened his eyes to take in the damage he had done to the once more powerful halfa. He could only blink as he took in the giant mountain of ice.
Teen Titans
"He…did it." Robin said as he took in the figure that was once Plasmius. The man…the beast was now fully encased in ice, his eyes slammed shut and his hands held in front of him to block the attack from hitting him there. His wings were flared out around him to give him balance as his tail had wrapped around his left leg. Even the flames that had been his hair and beard were frozen solid.
"That was…insane." Flash got out as his legs trembled but he kept his feet.
"No kidding." Cyborg was on the ground. His legs had given out just as Phantom had released that final attack. It had terrified him to realize just how strong that the ghost had become.
"No creo que vaya a dormir esta noche." Mas muttered.
"Creo que es hora de que nos vayamos." Menos reached for his brother, ready to leave this horror behind him. He hoped he and his brother would never come across something like this again.
"Te puedes ir. No te mantendremos si no puedes manejar esto." Batman said as he nodded to them in understanding. He had done similar things for his kids before in the past. Doing so now for kids that weren't his was only natural as well. "Gracias por tu ayuda. Lo apreciamos."
The two smiled gratefully as they gripped each other's hands. "¡Adios Amigos! Esperamos volver a verte en mejores circunstancias." They spoke together and then disappeared in a flash of white and red.
"I can't blame them for leaving." Kid Flash said from where he sat not too far from Cyborg. It was all really terrifying and also eye opening to more powerful individuals he had yet to face and prayed he never would.
"At least it's over." Superman looked at the ghost with the scepter. "Right?"
Tucker smiled at the mortals as he waved his staff and released the Beast, who went straight to Raven and wrapped his body around her defensively. "It is over." He agreed as he floated over to where Phantom was now falling towards the ground. "How are you feeling my friend?"
"Exhausted." They all heard as those able to walk made their way over as well. Starfire stayed behind with Cyborg and the Flashes. Beast followed behind Raven but growled the entire way. "Will we stay like this?"
"Not if you do not wish to." A nod of the head showed where the still standing Fenton Ghost Catcher. "Do know that if you do this though, it will be the end of Dan Phantom."
The man blinked at this before a tired smile fell on his face. He stood up slowly and then floated before darting towards the catcher.
Slade watched with narrowed eyes as the being slammed through the catcher and once more revealed two separate beings. "You going to stand up Phantom?" He questioned quietly as he walked forward.
"Shut up." Was mumbled back, as if he was a normal teen waking up on a lazy Sunday morning. "Gettin'p."
Slade rolled his eyes as he turned towards the other figure. "Dan Phantom, seems your times has come."
"Not just mine apparently." He said with a sad smile as he stared up at the giant ice mountain. They all turned to look at the mountain then.
Inside, Vlad Plasmius was starting to disintegrate. From his feet and moving up, the ice was disappearing along as well.
"What's happening to him?" Superman questioned as he watch the ice disappear.
"His time is up." Tucker spoke. "He was running away on borrowed time. Living a lie to himself and all those around him."
The Gotham duo both frowned at that as they watched. "What do you mean by that?" Robin spoke as he glanced at the ghost. "Who even are you?" It was a question someone should have asked before but hadn't due to what was happening.
He smiled at them as he held his hands out to his sides. "I am Saeclum Age, the Guardian of Time." He explained. "I protect the timeline from all threats."
They all stared at him for a long moment before Slade coughed to get his attention. "What about Clockwork?" That had been the ghost that Phantom had told him about and the one who he had met what felt like forever ago.
Saeclum or Tucker, lost his smile. "He…well…he gave his energy to save another." His smile appeared on his face once more as his eyes focused on the still downed figure of Phantom. "He had to give his all to save the one he wanted or he would have died."
"Go figure." Phantom muttered as he uncovered his eyes and glared at his once upon time friend. "He just has to go and do everything he wants without conversing with anyone else." He grumbled in annoyance. But it made a lot more sense. All of the visions he had had before and having been kept suspended in time and all. "Damn coco clock."
Tucker couldn't help but laugh at that before sighing. "That's true, but don't waste what he gave you Danny. He sacrificed himself to save you from the Ectoranium, don't let it be in vain."
Phantom glared at the other before sighing and standing up, his legs wobbling as they did but they held. "I won't." He turned his head away from his friend and instead watched as the last bit of Vlad disappeared. "At least I won't have to deal with him anymore." He smirked at the thought. The jerk was out of his life forever now and he wouldn't have to deal with him. He was free to do whatever he so pleased now.
"Yeah, same here." The voice came from beside Phantom, surprising him greatly.
He glared at Dan and snarled at him. "Don't do that!" He made sure to take a large step away from the other.
Dan just laughed as he looked down at the ground with a sad smile. "I've spent years with that man, trapped in the same body. All that hate and anger consumed me and it still does, really." He shrugged his shoulders, watching as his legs started to slowly dissipate into bright blue ectoplasm. "Seems my time is truly up now."
"It's been up over ten years." Phantom growled before shaking his head. "Either way, now you won't have to worry about all that anger."
"True, I get to be free now." Dan smirked before throwing his arms up, half his body having disappeared. "Maybe I'll get to see them again while I'm at it." He mused.
Phantom flinched visibly at that, glowering at the ground and crossing his arms over his chest. He would not admit it, would not admit that he was jealous of that part. That this jerkwad would get to see their family once more when he would be unable to.
It was infuriating.
But there was also a feeling in his chest he hadn't felt in a long time.
Relief.
Not for himself, never for himself, but for Dan. The man had been nothing but tortured memories built up in him, something Phantom himself knew well. To see that look of peace and contentment was envy worthy but also a giant relief.
Because if a monster like Dan could finally find that peace and contentment even after destroying the world, then there was a chance he could to.
"Give mom and dad a hug for me." Danny muttered as he looked away. "Jazz and Sam too."
"Oh trust me, they'll all get hugs from me." Dan agreed before smirking and reaching over to his younger self, only an arm and shoulders left along with his head, ruffling his hair roughly. "I'll let them know how you're doing too. Even though we're from different timelines, you are still me and that's inevitable." The once malicious smirk that tagged along those words was now a soft smile.
Danny rolled his eyes before watching the arm disappear into the blue energy as well and soon the last of Dan was starting to dissipate as well. "Enjoy what you get back and don't…don't let them go." He could feel the sting of tears in his eyes as his family and Sam came to mind. "Don't…don't hurt them again."
Dan smiled as nodded his head. "I can guarantee that I won't hurt them intentionally but I'll stay by their side forever." He sighed as his neck disappeared. "Just remember that pain eventually disappears. Don't hold on to it forever like it did."
Danny snorted at that. "Yeah, I don't want to destroy the world after all." They shared a smirk at that just as Dan's head began to disappear entirely.
"Good luck mini me. Have fun playing the hero." With that he disappeared in the last bit of blue sparkles.
The sun came up just seconds later.
Danny Phantom
"Think you should have told him you aren't a hero anymore?" Robin spoke up a moment later as he came up to stand beside the other as they watched the sun set almost a week later.
Phantom shrugged as he watched the waters below shimmer in the sun. He had avoided many things in the last week after that whole disaster. That included the Titans and his master. He was going through things by himself and figuring out what exactly he was going to do. "Doesn't matter now."
Robin nodded his head in agreement. There really wasn't anything they could do after all. "What are you going to do now?" He raised a brow even as he crossed his arms and kept his eyes on the rising sun. "Gonna go back to being Slade's apprentice?"
Phantom rolled his eyes and turned towards the Boy Wonder. "I'll do as I please as always." He stated with glowing green eyes. "After all, I had more than enough people telling me what to do." Though he would forever help out his master, the man had saved him after all.
Robin met that with a small smile. "Seems like you could become a friend." He held out a hand towards the other boy. He knew that people could change, he had seen what could happen to others when given the chance to change and make themselves better. Terra was one of the better examples even though she had gone off the right path at some point. She had turned around and saved the all in the end. A true hero to the very end.
Phantom though just gave a deadpanned look. "Friend? You're joking, right?" His thoughts were trailing to all the crap he had done to the Titans in the past. How the Boy Wonder could still believe they could be friends was beyond him. "You are a persistent little bird, aren't you?" He couldn't hold back the smirk at Robin's scowl.
"You do know who raised me, right?"
"Of course I do, who wouldn't know of the maniac that runs around Gotham in a bat costume."
"And yet that maniac can take Lex Luthor and the Joker on at the same time."
"Eh, the maniac is skilled, I never said he wasn't."
Robin rolled his eyes at that, lowering his hand just as it was taken in a strong grip. "Oh, what's this?" He questioned with a wide grin. "Changing youAAAAHHH!"
Phantom watched as the Boy Wander fell towards the ground with a smirk. "Did you really think that I was going to be your friend!?" He called down just as the other grabbed hold of the fire escape, saving himself from the ten story fall.
"I had some hope!" Came back up to him and all Phantom could do was laugh at the hero's naivety.
"Give it up Boy Wonder! I'll never be your friend or a hero! I'll leave that to you!" With that Phantom allowed his transformation to take place, enjoying the wash of his ice core. "Until next time bird brain!" With that he disappeared.
Robin scowled at the place where the other teen disappeared with a wisp of green power. "Geez, I hate that Casper." He growled just as his communicator sparked alive. "Robin here. What's wrong?"
"Cinderblock is wreaking havoc down town." Raven informed, a growl moving across from Beast Boy. The Beast had yet to return to their friend and spent its entire time with the gray skinned girl. "We're going to need some help."
Robin nodded his head. "I'm on my way." It was time to get to it again, but that was okay. Robin smiled as he leapt down quickly and jumped on his bike and zoomed off into the city. He had to get to his team.
They needed him after all and he needed them.
And as long as the fates held nothing but joy in their future, then they should all be fine.
Even if they weren't, then they would just have to change fates.
THE END
A.N. So that's the end of this series. Though I'm still not fully satisfied with this last chapter. I've rewritten it several times now but this is the best version I got out so far. Anyways, I might do oneshots at some point and I'll let you guys know if I do, but until then I've gotta work on other stories. Well, review and let me know what you think okay. Love you guys! Can't wait to hear from you again!
