Pearl was enjoying herself. She had just faced the one thing she had hated the most about herself. Steven had invited her and the other gems to celebrate at the Big Donut. Steven of course dragged Peridot along as well. When they arrived they ordered two donuts for Amethyst and Steven. The gems went outside to sit on the beach and watch the sun dip below the horizon ad into the sea.
Peridot scooted away from the group and hugged her knees to her chest. Water from the ice pack she held to her face dripped over her hands. A dejected frown spread across her face as she looked into the sand. Pearl internally scoffed at the small green gem. She had deserved the punch, no praise for wining, everything she got. Still, Pearl made her way over to the gem.
Peridot only glared at Pearl for a second before going back to looking into the sand. She grunted at the tall gem as Pearl sat next to her.
"I'm sorry," Peridot muttered.
"What?" Pearl mocked.
"I'm sorry," Peridot said louder. "For what I said. Steven's making me apologize. He's the only one nice to me so..."
"I forgive you," Pearl interrupted. Peridot looked at Pearl in confusion. "You made a mistake. Just realize we are each our own gem. It may be different on Homeworld but..."
"Yeah," Peridot agreed. "It is different on Homeworld. Lets... keep it at that." Peridot looked away. "On Homeworld, if you are week, You struggle to survive in society. Peridots are lucky because we can build strength. Now I don't have any. I feel weak and exposed. I guess I just tried to turn that weakness onto you."
Pearl looked to the gem wit a surprised look on her face. The usually arrogant gem was now spilling out her insecurities to a gem she barely trusted. Pearl smiled. Maybe Peridot trusted her more than she realized. "I feel the same way," Pearl admitted. "But now, you don't have to worry about being put down because of your strength. Welcome to Earth."
Peridot chuckled, "I like Earth."
"I'm sorry about your face," Pearl apologized. "You know. Because I punched it."
"Apology accepted."
"Now join us. Your going to miss one of the most beautiful things on this 'cruddy' planet." Peridot nodded and followed her ally to the rest of the gems. She watched as red waves of light danced across the sky and the star that guarded the planet like a mother would a child slowly descended. Peridot watched as the stars danced in the sky. She stayed behind after the rest of the gems left.
She looked up at the stars and found Homeworld among the millions of twinkling lights "Welcome to Earth."
