A short drabble...Ok, so I confess, I was a little depressed when I wrote this...but it's been collecting dust for a while, so I figured I'd post it :)
Summary: No one is there to catch his fall. And it's really much too beautiful a day to die.
Disclaimer: Ownership? Let's make that a no...
Untouchable
The world is moving in slow motion around him, like a beautiful arc of sunshine as he falls backwards to his death.
The sun is peaking out from the ever-present Gotham clouds, and the birds are chirping happily (however slow they sounded in his own muffled ears). Time itself seems to pause, looking to watch this momentous event. The mist floats around his body like a soft, fluffy pillow as he screams, utility belt somewhere far behind enemy lines-he thinks he sees a rainbow.
His cape, he mused, was like a funeral fabric, wrapped tightly around his mangled body as it battled against the whispering wind. It would work pretty well, too; a mix of Batman and Robin.
The setting was perfect, no matter how ironic. A Robin's birth in the dark, death in the light. The normally dismal alley way was even breath taking, the ruffed-up environment coated in golden sunshine; it reminded Dick of a new beginning coming from something terrible, like a blooming daisy after a devestating storm.
Ahh, symbolism. If only he could've been this deep with his Lit paper-his teacher would've given him his first perfect score of the year.
Ideley, Dick wondered if he'd actually passed that class with an A+. His teacher absolutely detested his word play, and Bruce really didn't like it when his grades dropped.
Wait. Bruce. Batman. The Team.
This situation was not whelming. He really wanted to just let go for once, forget responsibility, leave behind his dismal exsistance, but his training kicked in.
They'd been battling the Injustice League, trying to simintaniously diffuse bombs, deflect fear venom, and cut down Ivy's plants. Wally was captured, M'gann and Kaldur were captured, and who knew where the rest of them were.
Dick didn't have time for dying right now, he could do it later.
Right now, they needed him. He needed to get traught (no matter how easy it would be to see his parents again).
So he angles his body, forcing the mass to glide sideways into a wall. Which, ow, really hurt. Robin (he was back in control again, Dick could grieve later) let out a short yell, fingers scrambling at the windowsill, sliding down the wall and landing on the ground with a thump. He grunts, because ya, ow again, but he gets up anyways, eyes scanning for a way back up...
He spots cloths lines hanging out from several windows and his lips thin out into a smirk, taking a few steps back before sprinting at the wall. He uses his momentum to push off, like a spring board, and just barely manages to catch the first bar. He swings and swings and then releases, reaching the next bar, and the next, and the next, and then he's back to the top.
Robin randomly wonders if the Team noticed his brief absence. His question is answered when Wally burrows him in a hug once they finally get back to the Bioship.
A/N
Because Robin falls a lot and Batman can't always be there to catch him...
