Annie sits, trembling, as the doctors in the Capitol give her the results of her check up. "Miss Cresta, I have some very exciting news for you!"

Annie goes pale, scared. "W- what is it?"

The doctor grins as he tells her, "Why, Annie! You're pregnant! Isn't that so thrilling?" but all she wants to do is be sick.

"Pregnant? N- no, that's a mistake, I'm not pregnant, I can't be pregnant, please sir..." Her eyes fill with teardrops, and her voice becomes a whisper. "I can't have a baby like this, take it away from me..."

The doctor looks puzzled - he doesn't understand. "Miss Cresta, this is very good news! The Capitol shall go crazy for a Victor's child!"

Annie shakes her head. "No, you don't understand. I want rid of it." I never wanted a client, no matter a baby by one, she thinks.

"You're being absurd, it must be the joy of it all." That's it for Annie, and she cannot take it any longer. She stands abruptly.

"DON'T YOU SEE? I DON'T WANT IT!" She shakily sits on the side of the bed again, and composes herself. "Get rid of it for me, please. If you ever had an ounce of admiration or respect for me, do me a favour, and make it be gone..." she says, crying so loudly it draws the attention of the nurse in the next room along, who is quickly sent away again.

"Fine. You'll be here for another week, Miss Cresta - we don't do advance appointments for district girls like you..."
