Who Gets the Goggles (First Time)

The goggles were like the leader's crown. Or should have been. Maybe would have been if they hadn't been passed to him as a family heirloom, even if it had only come into the family when his father received it.

Still, it wasn't like Motomiya Daichi was unqualified for the job. He was the eldest of their generation. He had a part-time job - unofficial of course because it kind of wasn't allowed to have a part-time job on paper in Japan and he really was only helping out his dad. And he played soccer too, which was another box he ticked when it came to the predecessors.

So why were they squabbling over who should have the goggles?

Actually, he wasn't even sure who'd started it. Just that they couldn't agree now.

'Just because I'm a girl...' Ichijouji Keiko grumbled. She was leaning against the wall and playing with her hair, long and midnight blue, as though she barely cared. But she was playing enough attention to comment. And the second-oldest of them to boot.

'It's not about that,' Daichi sighed. 'They are my goggles.'

'They were my uncle's before that,' Yagami Akira pointed out. 'If we're talking about family, they should go to me...or Tatsuya.' He grimaced at the mention of his baby cousin. The others laughed at the thought of a boy barely a year old leading them into battle.

Not that they were expecting battles. But it was the principal of the matter that really counted. And principal said that Yagami Taichi's son would get the goggles before his nephew...if he still had any say in where they went. Because he'd given them to Motomiya Daisuke, and Daisuke had given them to his son and as far as Daichi was concerned, that was all there was to it.

Keiko didn't care enough about the issue to demand the goggles for herself. 'I've got a little brother or sister on the way,' she shrugged. 'Enough to boss around for me.'

But Akira was interested, and so was Takaishi Yuudai...though at his age he couldn't do much but say he wanted them. And Kido Fumio wasn't really interested either. It sounded like a scary job to him.

'But your marks are bad.' Akira crossed his arms. ''kaa-san's a teacher. Marks are important.'

'My dad runs a company of noodle carts,' Daichi countered. 'Real life skills are important too.'

'Mine!' cried Yuudai, interrupting them.

'Not yours,' sighed Keiko. 'And until we get into an adventure, I'd say we stick to the whole "Daisuke-san gave them to Daichi-kun".' Evidently, she'd started getting annoyed.

'Hah,' cried Daichi.

Akira grumbled a bit. 'But those googles would look good on me.' And that wasn't really an argument, because they looked fine on Daichi too.

'You can try them on,' Daichi offered - a bit of a peace offering - and Akira happily tried them.

''kaa-san!' he cried, running to Hikari who was with the other adults and the two babies - Tatsuya and Koushiro's daughter, Chie. 'How do I look?'

'Handsome,' Hikari laughed. 'But I hope you haven't pinched Daichi's goggles.'

'He let,' Akira said.

'For two seconds!' Daichi yelled, coming over as well.

Akira threw a pout at him. 'Three!'

'Which are also over.' Keiko rolled her eyes, lagging behind the others.
