Bay was tired of being the second choice.

When Zarra had offered to take them to Mexico, Bay had thought of it as a way out of her problems. She missed life before that awful night at prom. Emmett had been one of the only people to pick her over Daphne, and it had made her practically the happiest girl in the world, until she found out about him and Simone. Every time she thought of them together, her stomach churned and bile made its way into her throat. Bay shook her head and shifted in her sleeping bag. Why was it so hard to fall asleep? As she looked at the sky, she noticed two figures walking towards the Thing. She started and then started pushing on Zarra's shoulder. "Zarra, wake up! There's two guys coming towards us!" she said frantically. Zarra shouted, "Get away! I have a knife!"

"God, I hope that's not true." said the figure on the right as they stepped into the light. It was her Dad and Emmett. Bay was speechless and sputtered, "Dad? Wha..how?" He just pointed to his phone.

"You were tracking us?" she said shocked.

"That would be correct. Bay, could I speak to you alone for one minute please?" he said.

Bay stepped out of the Thing and walked over to her father. "Bay, what are you doing?"

"I'm going to Mexico to paint with Zarra's dad."

"Mexico?"

"And possibly Cuba."

"Well, you're ambitious."

"It's probably not my best plan. No money, no passport."

"That could possibly be a problem."

"I'm not going to stop doing street art. I can't. I love doing it, and I would fall apart if I had to stop. It's part of what makes me...me." she said, scrunching her eyes to keep the tears from falling.

"That is exactly how I would feel if you were gone," he said, opening his arms. She stepped forward and he enveloped her into a tight hug.

"What are we gonna do?" she said, her voice muffled by his chest.

"I have no idea, but I know we're not going to solve it her in this parking lot. Let's go get your stuff and assure your moms that you're not lying dead in a ditch somewhere." he said, chuckling slightly at the image of his frantic wife. And with that statement, they walked back to the Thing, his arm around her shoulder. Emmett was standing there and looking confused.

"How about Zarra and I follow you and Emmett back-hey, where is Zarra?" she said with a flabbergasted look on her face. Bay turned to find a note on the trunk of the Thing that said, 'Used the rest of the money for a bus ticket. Put it on my tab. -Zarra' Bay the suddenly became aware of the fact that Emmett was standing right in front of her. "How about Emmett and I ride back together in the Thing?" she said and signed. John nodded his head and began to walk back to his car. Bay turned to Emmett and took a deep breath at his familiarity. His blue eyes and cologne had haunted her dreams for the entire time she was gone over the summer. "I can't believe you came out all this way just to come find me." she signed nervously. "Bay, I will always come find you." he signed with a smile on his face. Bay slowly gravitated towards him, and her lips met his, memories of the time before Simone overtaking her. His hand brushed her cheek, and she pulled back, looking into his eyes. She realized when she looked at him that she felt no more contempt for him, only his actions that had hurt her so. She kissed his cheek and climbed into the passenger seat. They held hands all the way home.
