A/N: Sorry for the wait! This will be the final chapter. Thank you all for your support of this story and I hope you enjoy this chapter as our story comes to an end. I had a great time writing it! =)
Keep an eye out, I have two new HP stories I will begin posting soon!
Previous Chapter: Kaiden recovered from falling during the Quidditch match, found out his broom was damaged, his friends snuck Quaffles in to visit him and Sirius broke into the Gryffindor Tower.
As soon as Kaiden entered the Great Hall for breakfast he made a beeline for the Gryffindor table. Ignoring some of the dark looks a few of the students were giving him, he tapped Ron on the shoulder. "Ron, are you okay?" He asked anxiously.
Ron was paler than usual with dark circles under his eyes. "I'm fine. It was really scary though. Black stood there with this menacing look on his face, his long knife, practically a sword, poised over me -"
Hermione snorted. "Now he had a sword pointed at you? Your story keeps changing every time you tell it." She scoffed.
Ron glared at her. "I was in shock at first, I can remember more now."
"Mm-hmm."
"How'd he get in?" Kaiden wondered out loud. He noticed his parents had reached the Head Table and were in a deep discussion with Professor Lupin and Professor McGonagall.
Neville whimpered.
Hermione gave him a sympathetic look. "Well, apparently Neville had written down the password so he wouldn't forget it."
"I lost it and I guess Sirius Black found it," Neville said unhappily. "Professor McGonagall is furious with me."
"She yelled at him quite a bit," Ron said cheerfully. He made a face when Hermione punched his shoulder.
"It's okay Neville, you didn't mean for anything like this to happen," Kaiden said, offering his shy friend a smile. He then frowned. "What would Black want with Gryffindor Tower?"
"That's what I was wondering," Hermione said. "He knows that the real Harry Potter died, right? He knows about you which means he would know that you are a Slytherin, so why break into the Tower?"
"He might have read the story in the paper, but maybe he didn't believe it?" Ron suggested. "Maybe he's in denial or something."
"What if he's planning on going to the dungeons next?" Neville asked in a shaky voice. "To get to you, Kaiden."
"He won't have much luck," Kaiden shrugged, not too concerned with that possibility. "My dad has added more wards and more portraits were moved to our entrance, specifically to keep an eye out for him. If any of them see him, they'll immediately let my parents and the Headmaster know. Besides, I won't be there." He sighed ruefully. "My parents want me to stay in our quarters until they know for sure Black is gone."
Ron snickered. "I think you've stayed in your quarters more than in your own dorm this year."
Kaiden tried not to think about how true that statement was. "Maybe I should try and get Quaffles to stay with us. I could tell my parents he would be added protection," He said, his eyes brightening.
"Good luck with that," Ron said as he the owls began delivering mail. He opened a letter and quickly scanned it. "Mum and Dad were notified of what happened. Merlin, my mum wants to come here to make sure I'm okay!" He looked horrified at the thought.
Kaiden and Hermione shared an amused look. "Good luck with that," Kaiden said smugly before heading to the Slytherin table. He had just sat down when a package was dropped in front of him by a large owl. "This is for me?"
"What is it?" Blaise asked eagerly. "It's wrapped in a weird shape."
Draco's mouth dropped open as Kaiden unwrapped the beautiful broom. "It's a Firebolt!" He yelled in excitement. "It's the latest broom, it only just came out! My parents said I would have to wait until my birthday to get one!"
"Wow," Blaise breathed as others noticed and stood to get a better look.
"Is is from your parents?" Pansy asked as she too admired the sleek broomstick.
"There's no note but it has to be!" Kaiden said, shocked and touched that his parents had already replaced his broom, and not just with any broom but a Firebolt! Without thinking, he raced to the Head Table. "Mum, Dad, thank you!" He said grinning as he clutched the broom to his chest. Draco followed him, also grinning.
Severus frowned slightly. "Kaiden? Where did you get that?"
"It's a Firebolt," Bella said admirably as she stepped down to view the broom better. "It's beautiful." She gave Kaiden a confused look. "Whose is it?"
"It was just delivered to me," Kaiden said, equally confused now. "If you two didn't give it to me, then who did?"
Severus had joined them and took the broom, eyeing it speculatively. "I don't know. Would Narcissa and Lucius have sent it?" He asked Bella.
"What? No way! Not without sending me one too!" Draco protested, a disgruntled look coming over his face.
"I doubt they would have sent this without running it by us," Bella said as she looked at the Firebolt thoughtfully.
"Andromeda?"
Bella shook her head. "No, they couldn't afford such a broom. This has only just been released and there are waiting lists for it."
"You're going to be unstoppable during Quidditch, Kaiden," Draco said gleefully.
Severus exchanged a look with Bella. "Kaiden, why don't we hold onto this for you?"
"But-"
"You can't take it to your classes, snakeling," Bella reasoned.
"True." Kaiden handed it to her and grinned. "I can't wait to fly it later. Take good care of it, okay?" He hurried back to the table with Draco.
"Why would someone give this to him without a note?" Severus asked quietly.
"Someone wants to stay hidden perhaps," Bella sighed. "Do you think it's possible?"
"Possible that Black sent this to Kaiden? Yes." Severus's face darkened.
HP
After his last class, Kaiden raced to his quarters, expecting to find his broom there. He frowned when he didn't see it in his room or the sitting room and his parents weren't there yet. He sighed and flopped down onto his bed, Snidget jumping up onto him and laying on his stomach. "Hey Snidge," He murmured as he lazily pet his cat. "I got an amazing broom today. I should be out on the pitch flying it right now, if I knew where it was," He sighed again. His friends were waiting for him, eager to see how the broom did.
Several minutes later he heard the door open and close and he jumped up and raced to the sitting area. "There you are!" He grinned at his parents. "Where's the Firebolt? I couldn't find it."
"Kaiden, sit down for a minute," Bella said gently.
Kaiden paused, taking in his parents serious expressions. "What's wrong?" He asked as he sat on the sofa, biting his lip.
Severus cleared his throat. "We aren't sure if anything is wrong but there might be. With the Firebolt." He clarified.
"What do you mean?"
"There was no note sent with it, Kaiden. We don't know who sent it to you," Bella explained.
"So?" Kaiden winced slightly. That sounded selfish. "I mean, I want to know who sent it and thank them. But why is it a problem that we don't know?"
"Because it could have been sent by someone who means you harm," Severus spoke up. "Someone like Sirius Black."
Kaiden's mouth dropped open. "You think Black sent me a Firebolt? That's completely mental!"
"Is it?" Severus said smoothly. "He managed to break into the castle, into Gryffindor Tower and we don't know why. He's likely insane after being in Azkaban, we have no clue what he is thinking or planning." Black may not have betrayed the Potters but that didn't mean he wasn't out for revenge now.
"What would hurting me do for him?"
"Like your father said, he could be insane," Bella said carefully. "Yes, he was wrongly put in Azkaban but we have no idea what his frame of mind is now."
Kaiden shook his head, it didn't make any sense to him. "So you think he sent me the broom and did something to it?"
"He could have jinxed it to hurt you once you flew on it," Bella explained. "So Professor Flitwick is going to strip it down and make sure that nothing is wrong with it."
"Strip it down?" Kaiden shot to his feet. "It will be ruined! Come on, there's nothing wrong with it!"
"First thing, do not yell at us," Severus said sternly. "And second, you don't know if anything is wrong with it or not. The only way for you to know is to fly it and that is not going to happen until we are certain it hasn't been tampered with. Professor Flitwick will find out for us."
"How long?"
"It will probably take a couple weeks," Bella said sympathetically.
"Weeks! Aw, come on!"
"Your safety is non-negotiable," Severus said in a no nonsense tone. "Your life is more important than a new broom."
Kaiden dropped back on the sofa, a defeated look on his face. "Not fair," He muttered.
Severus rolled his eyes at the pre-teen attitude. "You'll live through it."
"Cheer up, Snakeling. In the meantime, Narcissa is going to send Draco's Nimbus for you to use." Bella said.
"That's nice of her," Kaiden said grudgingly. "Draco won't mind?"
"I very much doubt he will," Bella patted him on the knee. "Why don't you go start your homework?"
"My friends are waiting for me at the pitch," Kaiden grimaced. He didn't look forward to telling them that his Firebolt was going to be stripped down.
"They shouldn't be out there unsupervised," Severus said with a frown. "As of now, students are not to be out by themselves. Available Professors and Prefects will escort students to their classes."
Kaiden groaned. "Again? Early curfew too?"
"Yes," Severus hid a grin at Kaiden's distress. "Voldemort is back and Sirius Black was able to get into the castle. We can't be too careful."
HP
"Quaffles, this is Snidget. Snidget, this is Quaffles," Kaiden looked his cat who was looking warily at Quaffles. The shaggy dog was looking curiously at Snidget. "I'm hoping if you two get along, then you can stay in our quarters," Kaiden said to Quaffles. Draco and Hagrid had brought Quaffles over in hopes that Kaiden could convince his parents to let the dog stay with them.
Quaffles wagged his tail, causing Kaiden to laugh.
Snidget didn't seem bothered with Quaffles and went back to looking under the sofa, where he had been for the last half hour, his tail twitching back and forth.
"Did one of your toys roll under there?" Kaiden asked, bending down to look. He blinked in surprise. "Scabbers?" He knew the rat would go missing from time to time, though he had no idea how the old rat managed to get into the dungeons.
Quaffles began barking and growling and the rat ran out from under the sofa.
"Hey!" Kaiden protested. Both Quaffles and Snidget were chasing the old rat around the room. "No! That's Ron's rat! Leave him alone!" He tried to pick up Scabbers and blinked when suddenly instead of a rat stood a man. A short, balding man with small, watery eyes. His eyes darted around nervously. "Wh-what?" Kaiden stammered. The man looked somewhat familiar...
Quaffles growled and then blurred into a man as well, one who Kaiden recognized from his posters. "Sirius Black!" He gasped, reaching for his wand.
"I'll take that," Pettigrew grabbed Kaiden's wand first. His voice was squeaky.
"Leave the boy alone, Wormtail," Sirius hissed.
"Peter Pettigrew," Kaiden whispered. "You helped Voldemort return. You kidnapped my Aunt."
Pettigrew flinched at the his master's name. "Don't use his name, you little fool," He snapped. "My master would not appreciate it!"
"You mean Voldemort?" Sirius smirked.
"Shut up!"
"You betrayed them! You betrayed Lily and James! Your friends!" Sirius said, anguish in his eyes.
"The Dark Lord was too strong. Going against him was useless," Pettigrew said, no remorse in his voice. He gave Kaiden a small smile. "I will be rewarded for delivering the boy to him, in his own home." He snickered.
"Kaiden, get out of here!" Sirius said, leaping forward to attack Pettigrew.
Pettigrew stunned him and then grabbed Kaiden and dragged him to the fireplace. Kaiden struggled and fought but Pettigrew shouted a destination and they disappeared into the green flames.
Kaiden coughed and blinked as he looked up from the floor where the fireplace had spit him out. His heart dropped as he realized he had just been delivered to Voldemort.
HP
Hagrid had left Draco in the main hall and he walked over to where his Aunt and Uncle were talking to Professor Lupin. He hoped they were in a good mood, he knew that Kaiden really wanted Quaffles to stay with them. "Hi!" He said brightly.
Before Severus or Bella could say anything, Remus grabbed Draco's arm. "Where have you been? Who have you been with?" He demanded.
"Hey!" Draco scowled as he twisted out of his grip.
"Lupin, why are you manhandling my nephew?"
"I can smell Padfoot on him!" Remus exclaimed. It had been bothering him for awhile, thinking he could scent his old friend. But it had always been clouded by other smells but now it was clear. Sirius had to be here.
"What?"
"Sirius Black?" Bella looked around as if expecting to see him.
"Where is he, Draco?"
"I haven't seen Sirius Black," Draco huffed.
Remus tried to remain calm. "Okay. How about any stray dogs?"
"Just Quaffles."
Bella gasped.
"Merlin," Severus whispered. "Is he at Hagrid's hut now?"
"Well, no," Draco said slowly, clearly confused. "I just left him in your quarters. Kaiden wanted to see if he and Snidget get along. He's hoping you'll let Quaffles stay – hey, where are you going?"
HP
Severus and Bella burst into their quarters with Remus right on their heels.
"Kaiden! Where are you?"
"Sirius, wake up!" Remus used a water charm on his friend, feeling elated to see him but regretful of believing he had betrayed James and Lily.
"Moony?" Sirius wiped water off of his face as he sat up. His eyes widened. "He was here! Wormtail! He took Kaiden!" He scrambled to his feet.
"Took him?" Bella grabbed Severus arm in panic.
"Took him to Voldemort." Sirius said in defeat. "I couldn't stop him."
Remus cast a Patronus to summon the Headmaster.
HP
"Kaiden, welcome," Voldemort gave a sweet smile. "I've been looking forward to this."
Kaiden was terrified but determined not to show it. "Yeah, thanks for having me."
"Such attitude," Voldemort sighed. "But what would I expect from Severus and Bella's child? Such a shame. You could have been a great follower."
"Nah, I'd rather just destroy you. Again," Kaiden said without thinking. He winced at the furious look on Voldemort's face.
Voldemort narrowed his eyes. "Crucio!"
Kaiden couldn't believe the pain and gritted his teeth against it.
"You don't have long to live," Voldemort said conversationally. "I have many plans to make and I want you out of my way once and for all. Of course, I need to invite my followers to witness your destruction. You don't mind if I invite more guests, do you?" He chuckled.
Kaiden panted as the curse was released. He noticed Pettigrew laughing and felt rage at the man for all he had done. Plus the rat had his wand. Without a thought, he launched himself at Pettigrew.
"Hey!" Pettigrew fell over when Kaiden's small body slammed into him.
Kaiden grabbed his wand and pointed it at Voldemort, who only looked mildly amused.
"What are you going to do, Snape?" Voldemort asked softly. "How can you possibly beat me?"
"I don't know but that doesn't mean I'm not going to try," Kaiden said shakily.
"I thought it would be best to kill you and send your broken body to your parents," Voldemort said thoughtfully. "But perhaps instead I will bring your parents here and kill them in front of you. Slowly. Painfully."
Kaiden felt fear run through him and feeling a fierceness to protect his parents, began to cast an Expelliarmus but then he heard several pops, people yelling, spells being cast and Voldemort shouting out the killing curse.
HP
Kaiden stood in a vaguely familiar room. A living room? He looked around in confusion. "Where am I?"
"Godric's Hollow. You lived here for a short time."
Kaiden spun around to face a boy his age, a boy with messy dark brown hair, bright green eyes and glasses. "You- are you- Harry Potter?" His mouth dropped open.
Harry grinned. "I'm happy to meet you, Kaiden."
"But, how...you were only a baby..."
"It would have been hard to talk to you as a newborn," Harry chuckled. "Things are different here, I'm able to appear to you at the same age you are."
"Here?" Kaiden gulped. "Am I dead?"
"No," Harry shook his head. "You're sort of in the in-between."
HP
"Where is he?" Severus roared.
The Headmaster had arrived, looking serious. "We will find him, Severus."
"How? We don't know where Pettigrew took him!" Bella was practically hysterical. "I want my baby back!"
"I'm so sorry," Sirius whispered. "I was after Pettigrew. I tried to protect Kaiden, honest."
"Albus, any ideas where he could be?" Remus demanded.
"Wait. I think he mentioned Voldemort's home," Sirius said hoarsely.
"I believe I know where they are then," Dumbledore said, quickly throwing floo powder into the fireplace. "Hurry. We have no time to waste!"
HP
Bella blinked and sat up, looking around in confusion. She was in...her old cottage. The one that had burned when she believed she had killed Kaiden. How was she here? This place didn't even exist anymore...The last she remembered was seeing Voldemort starting to cast a curse at Kaiden and she had shouted her own, along with Severus... "Severus? Kaiden?" She called out.
"They aren't here," A female voice said softly from behind her.
Bella spun around and gasped.
"Don't worry. They are being looked after," Lily Potter smiled gently at her.
HP
"Bella? Kaiden? Where are you?" Severus shouted, looking around in confusion. How was he back at Hogwarts? And why was it so eerily quiet? Where was everyone?
"Wotcher, Snape."
Severus's eyes widened when he turned around. "Potter?"
James gave him a lopsided grin. "Bet you never thought you'd see me again, did you?"
HP
"Why am I here?" Kaiden asked. "Where are my parents?"
"Talking to mine," Harry answered. "They should be okay," He hastily reassured Kaiden. "This is our only opportunity to talk to you." He shrugged. "I wanted to thank you."
"For what?"
"I know you were just a baby, but you really helped my parents with their grief." Harry said seriously. "And you never hated them for what they did."
"They tried to protect me," Kaiden said softly. "I understand that."
"I've really admired how brave you've been," Harry said. "With everything that has happened to you and your parents."
"I haven't been brave," Kaiden said, embarrassed.
Harry grinned. "Yes you have. You all have."
"I've felt guilty," Kaiden admitted.
Harry nodded in understanding. "Because of me?"
"People thought I was you and you died so young..." Kaiden sighed. "You should be at school with me."
Harry smiled. "I think we would have been friends. I probably would have found a lot of trouble though, at least my mum thinks so." He chuckled.
"Yeah, I manage to find it," Kaiden grinned. "Or it finds me." He shrugged. "Will I be able to go back?" He asked hopefully.
Harry nodded. "You will. You will hear them. Have a good life, Kaiden."
"Thanks Harry. I won't forget you."
HP
"I'm so sorry for the pain you went through," Lily said. "For my part in it."
Bella nodded. "I do understand why you did it. Why you took Kaiden." She hesitated. "You died protecting him. I will never forget that."
"I love my Harry," Lily said with a soft smile. "But I loved Kaiden too. You have an amazing son, Bella."
"Where is he?" Bella asked, worry in her voice.
"You'll be with him soon," Lily said reassuringly. "I hope one day you can forgive me."
"I already do," Bella said, meaning it. "You sacrificed your life for Kaiden, I hold no ill will towards you."
Lily looked relieved. "Thank you Bella. Enjoy your children. Never take a moment for granted."
"I won't. Wait...children?"
HP
Severus stared at James. "Why...how..."
James laughed. "Don't worry. You aren't meant to spend eternity with me. I do have unfinished business with you though."
"Indeed?" Severus asked suspiciously.
"I want to apologize." James said seriously. "For bullying you in school. I was an idiot."
"I won't argue that," Severus drawled. "But I'm over it." And he realized he really was.
"Good." James said with an easy smile. "I do sort of have a favor to ask...not that I deserve one."
"What is it?"
"Keep an eye on Remus and Sirius?" James looked wistful at the thought of his friends. "They're good people Snape, I know you have cause to believe otherwise but they can be the most loyal of friends. They'll help watch over Kaiden. And hey, with him, his cousin and his friends...you need all the help you can get, right?" He grinned.
Severus snorted. "True. Remus has already proved himself. Black...well, we'll see."
"He'll prove himself," James said confidently. "Just give him a chance." He tilted his head to the side as if hearing something. "It's time for you to go. Severus, I wish you and your family a good life."
Before Severus could respond, James and Hogwarts began to fade away.
HP
"Severus! Wake up!"
Severus opened his eyes, Remus shaking him. Remus sighed in relief. "You're all right."
"Where's Bella? Kaiden?" Severus asked, fear settling in. He could see that Aurors had joined them, and Dumbledore was crouched down next to something.
"Over there," Remus said quietly, gesturing to where Bella was holding Kaiden. Sirius also was kneeling down, a grave look on his face.
Severus hurried over, his heart practically stopping when he saw that Kaiden wasn't awake. "Kaiden?"
Tears running down her face, Bella looked at him. "He won't wake up."
Severus reached out and stroked his son's cheek. "Kaiden?"
Kaiden gave a sigh and then his charcoal eyes fluttered open. "Mum? Dad?"
"Oh, baby," Bella sobbed, hugging him tight. "You're okay!"
"Yeah," Kaiden shook his head to clear it. "What happened?"
"You three are lucky to be alive, that's what happened," Sirius spoke up. "Voldemort cast the killing curse at Kaiden, and then Pettigrew panicked and cast one at both of you." He rubbed his hand over his face. "For a few moments, I thought all three of you were dead."
"Where's Voldemort?" Kaiden asked nervously.
"Dead," Sirius broke into a grin. "Albus killed him. He gone for good this time."
Kaiden peered over his dad's shoulder and saw Dumbledore standing up from Voldemort's still figure. Pettigrew was crying loudly, his arms and legs bound with two Aurors pointing their wands at him.
"It's over?" Kaiden sagged in relief, almost falling into his dad's arms. He was still feeling the effects of the Crucio.
"It's over, snakeling," Bella bent down to kiss him on the head. "Did he hurt you?"
Kaiden hesitated. "He cast a Crucio at me," He admitted. "It hurt but I'm okay."
Severus tightened his hold on Kaiden. "We'll have Madame Pomfrey look you over in any case."
"So," Kaiden gave Sirius a tentative smile. "Were you the one who sent me a Firebolt?"
Sirius grinned broadly. "Yup, that was me. Sorry about the deception as Quaffles but I wanted to make sure you were okay and also try to get a hold of Pettigrew."
"Poor Ron," Kaiden gave a small laugh. "He'll never get over Scabbers being Peter Pettigrew."
Dumbledore approached, a beaming smile on his face. "Kaiden, my boy! It is very good to see you well. You had us worried."
"Voldemort's really gone?" Bella still couldn't believe that the nightmare was over.
"He's really gone," Dumbledore assured her. "And this time we have a body to prove it. The Minister will owe Kaiden a very big apology for not believing him." His eyes were twinkling.
HP
In their quarters, the quiet was welcoming. They had spent the last few days giving interviews, talking with the Headmaster, helping Sirius get settled and Kaiden had been answering his friends questions. They had been shocked to find out Sirius Black, whose name was now officially clear, had really been Quaffles. Fudge had grudgingly apologized to Kaiden, which Rita Skeeter had gleefully recorded for her article. He had gotten apologies from fellow students who had not believed him, except for Theo Nott and his friends. Nott had been in a bad mood since Voldemort's death, but didn't appear inclined to cause anymore trouble for Kaiden.
"We haven't really talked about what happened," Bella said as they settled around the kitchen table for tea and biscuits. "I mean, with each other. After the killing curse was cast."
"I saw James Potter," Severus said bluntly.
Kaiden's mouth dropped open and Bella's eyes had widened. "You did?"
"He apologized," Severus said with a wry smile. "Wished us a good life. Asked that I look out for Lupin and Black." He rolled his eyes.
Kaiden grinned. Remus and Sirius were already part of the family, he considered them Uncles. Sirius was going to work at the school and help Madame Hooch teach flying and coach Quidditch.
"I saw Lily," Bella shared. "She apologized for being a part of faking Kaiden's death." She gave Kaiden a smile. "She did love you."
"I know," Kaiden said. "I saw Harry. He was my age. He said we were all brave and he thought we would have been friends, if he had lived," He shared wistfully.
"I have no doubt you would have been," Bella said with a smile. She cleared her throat. "It's strange but Lily told me to enjoy my children."
"Children?" Severus looked confused.
"Yes, like I said, I thought it was strange so when Poppy looked me over after our ordeal with Voldemort, I had her run a certain diagnostic," Bella grinned. "I'm pregnant!"
Severus choked on his tea while Kaiden grinned wildly. "I'm getting a sibling!" Kaiden cheered. "I hope it's a brother, or sister would be cool too...I can't wait to tell Draco!"
Severus reached across the table to grasp Bella's hand. "Truly?"
"Yes, my love," Bella said, feeling happier than she had ever been.
"A baby," Severus said in wonder, feeling as if his heart would burst from joy. He ruffled Kaiden's hair. "You'll be a great big brother."
Kaiden nodded enthusiastically. "I will! I'll show him, or her, how to fly, how to play Quidditch, how to -"
"Leave some stuff for us," Bella said, winking at Severus. They spent the evening discussing names and laughing, simply enjoying being a family.
Later that night, while watching Kaiden sleep with Snidget curled up next to him, Bella leaned into Severus. "I love you," She said softly.
"I love you too," Severus murmured, kissing her neck. "And I love our amazing and brave son."
"He's incredible," Bella agreed. "What do you think our second child will have in store for us?"
"Merlin knows," Severus grinned. "I can't wait to find out."
"Me either," Bella laughed.
During Kaiden's second year at Hogwarts, his sister Caree Ophelia Snape was born and it was clear from the beginning that she had Kaiden wrapped around her little finger. He was a protective and attentive older brother who adored his little sister. Bella and Severus were over the moon with their family, maintaining close relationships with the Malfoys, the Tonks and Remus and Sirius. Despite the years of sadness they had gone through, they had come out of it stronger than ever.
And they lived happily ever after.
The End.
