Part V

Chapter 5

Adding up the dots

After the group of three made it out of the forest and getting past the hell gate. Nero and the Maximoff twins went their separate directions, Nero wanting to take care of somethings alone, much to the disagreement with the twins, they eventually made a compromise. Once they both finish their business, they would meet up again in headquarters.

But that didn't explain how they got into this mess.

Wanda flinched watching her brother be thrown back by their mother's parry. She looks over at her mom in confusion and heartbreak. "Mom! Why? Why are you doing this?!"

Evyn just stared at her daughter and shrugs twirling her sword in her hand.

Pietro looks up at his mom with a glare. "What the hell is going on mom?! Huh?! Don't tell us you were hoping we would sit idly by while you and Uncle Dante go out and do who knows what?!" He growls and uses his speed to get the upper hand on his mother.

Only fo Evyn to raise her knee up and hit her son right in the gut. She looks down at her son. "You're still loud when you run. You know that right?"

"Mom! What exactly is going on?" Wanda calls out to her mother. "Why didn't you tell us anything!"

Evyn looks over at her daughter and shrugs her shoulders. "You and your brother went sightseeing, didn't you? You tell me." She winks at her daughter. She looks down at her son and takes a step back. "You know. I think that kid is a bad influence on you, Pietro. You usually ask first then act, but instead, you act first. Are you really that pissed that you didn't know the plan? Or is there something more?"

Pietro looks up at his mother with narrowed eyes. "Now? Now you want to play responsible parent?"

"Hey! I am responsible. In my own way." Evyn smirked and sheathed her sword. "Now that you're all cooled." She turns away from them and sat on the broken piece of a pillar. "As you know this town worships a demon as a god. During that….service you heard who the demon was right?"

"Sparda." Wanda states with a frown.

"And who is he to you two?" Evyn asks with a raised eyebrow.

"He's gramps, right?" Pietro asks, pushing himself up.

Evyn nods her head. "Correct."

"Why would they worship him as a god?" Wanda asks.

"Daddy dearest sealed the demon world saving the human world about 2,000 years ago. Legend states that during his time, Sparda ruled this area as a feudal lord." Evyn shrugs her shoulder with a shake of her head. "These guys take it seriously, to the point they forget Sparda was a demon." She looks at her twins carefully. "You two saw it right? The hell gates? The suits? The demons running around?"

"We have…we know you don't kill humans." Wanda states walking over to her mother. "But nothing is adding up."

"Sure they are." Evyn smiles. "I've been investigating the Order for a while now, they weren't my top priorities. Until Lade mentioned to me that they were not only jumping in her jobs but collecting devil arms. Brought it up to Trish and Dante."

"Why bring us?" Wanda asks. "You usually don't bring either of us to jobs. Why now?"

Evyn looks over at her son who is looking away. She sighs and looks at her daughter. "When we discovered things were not great, we had no choice but to act. Especially with what they had."

"Had?" Wanda frowns, looking at her mother then over at her brother.

"Wanda, remember that sword Nero got from the lab? Yamato?" Pietro asks looking at his sister.

"The one that was broken? Yeah…" Wanda frowns.

"That sword was a keepsake from Sparda to his eldest son." Evyn states.

"I thought Rebellion was Uncle Dante's sword." Wanda states.

"It is. But Yamato wasn't for Dante. It was for Vergil. The eldest son of Sparda." Evyn explains. "Yamato has a special trait. It can open and separate the human and demon world. Now tell me, why would the Order have those swords? Why would they have hell gates?"

"No…" Wanda widens her eyes.

Pietro looks over at his sister. "I guess our guess was right."

Wanda nods her head. "But you never answered my question. Why did you bring us?"

Evyn points at Pietro. "When you were off doing who knows every other week or month. I took Pietro out on a job with me to test his skills. That's when he lost control."

"What?" Wanda frowns. "What do you mean?"

"Since you been born you always had demon abilities. When you agreed to be part of Strucker's experiment, the mind stone awoke parts of your abilities from your demon heritage. But not all of it." Evyn explains. "As a part demon, there is a chance you could have a demon form. Pietro found that out."

Wanda frowns looking at her brother.

"I'll tell you later." Pietro sighs, turning his attention to his mother. "So?"

"You needed to learn how to think with a cool head." Evyn states lightly tapping her son's forehead. "And Wanda need experience on the field." She looks over at her daughter. "Since Lagos, you've been scared of your powers, holding back. I was hoping with you on the field you would learn not to be scared of your powers."

"That doesn't explain why you didn't tell us the plan from the beginning!" Pietro shouts.

"Would you have agreed if I did?" Evyn asks with a raised eyebrow. When they both shook their heads, the mother smiles at them. "Point for me. Now, let's go find your Uncle and finish up this mission. I'm getting a headache from all this religious crap."

Pietro watches his mom walk off and sighs. "At least she didn't say, 'I forgot to tell you'."

"She does that?" Wanda asks.

"Oh yeah." Pietro nods. "Come on, we'll probably meet up with Nero on the way over.

Getting closer to the end here, which makes me kind of sad. I really don't want to put this story on hiatus.
