(Nathan/Audrey; Spoilers for season 5 finale)

Absorption

It's Audrey or Haven. Nathan knows they have no other options left. But still, it is hard to accept. He can't stand the idea that Audrey is giving herself up, letting herself be absorbed into Mara, to save Haven, to save him.

Audrey deserves a full and real life. She deserves so much more than Charlotte has allowed her. Even if Audrey started out as a shadow of Mara's being, a copy, she has grown into herself and become a strong, kind, and wonderful person. She is more real to him than Mara appears to be. She is more real than most people are to him.

Audrey is kind and passionate and full of light, whereas Mara has only darkness and bitterness left within her.

It is that difference between Audrey and Mara that has left them in this situation. Audrey's light may be enough to cancel out Mara's darkness and sway Mara to leave Haven alone. Audrey alone can save Haven.

He hates it, but he knows there is no other option. And if he's honest, if he has to lose Audrey at all, this is one situation where it would almost be worth losing her forever. She wants to give herself up to save Haven. What better end can Audrey have than to save the place she has come to call home?

He hates it, but it's Audrey or Haven. And Audrey has made her choice.
