Words Are Hard (Are A Song Fic)
Fiyeraba
Elphaba decides to channel her romantic side and try to woo Fiyero as a way to show how much she feels for him. Especially, since he's known as King of Romance around campus. It's a little harder than she thought. (When Words Fail from Shrek the Musical). (AU. Elphaba takes the first step in hers and Fiyero's relationship.
Dedicated to Vinkunwildflowerqueen. She's my fav.
Elphaba paced around a secluded area in the courtyard of Shiz. After Fiyero and Galinda broke up, Elphaba confessed to her friend about her feelings for the Vinkun Prince. After much squealing, crying, screamings, how-could-yous, and more squealing, Galinda wished her green friend good luck and suggested Elphaba make the first move.
No problem.
Elphaba thought she could do the whole romance thing. Sure, she'd never actually been in a relationship but she'd read all about them and saw a few moving pictures with Galinda during the weekends. Usually it included a romantic dinner and flowers. This meant a moonlit picnic since Elphaba didn't have that much money and wanted this to be private, especially if Fiyero turned her down.
Elphaba also knew how much Fiyero loved to sing and dance. She thought she'd sing him a song but she was fumbling on how she should begin. Turning to a tree she imagined it as Fiyero. His tall, lean figure. His beautiful, dark skin so smooth he seemed out of a painting. His warm, citrine eyes and blinding white smile.
She could melt already and he wasn't even there. How could she begin?
"Hello, Fiyero. How's it going first of all?" she started uncertainly. "Good? Good for me too, I'm okay. Um…
"I picked this flower… right over there is where it grew" she began with a sigh. She knew he loved flower meanings and she held a red tulip which was a declaration of love.
"And I don't really like it, but, it made me think of you, because it's pretty (Pretty? Really)" she sighed. "Is what I'm trying to say, that you are also pretty but, I like you anyway.
"So please accept this flower, with its petals and a stem. Which represent my feelings and tells you how Oh man I'm in trouble" What was she thinking? There was no way…
"When words fail, what will I do? When words fail, how will he know how I feel? When words fail will I fail too?"
Elphaba then thought of something romantic, at least she hoped. "Hello fair prince. Oh look, the moon is out tonight. You remind me of that moon, because it's big and bright. But, by big I don't mean chubby." She stammered. "Obviously you're not fat, but your personality is biggish is what I meant by that."
Elphaba face palmed. Hopefully he didn't think she meant his ego either. "Sorry 'bout that fat thing I'm on the hefty side myself (yeah right maybe her brain was) I'd have to blame the gene pool, which reminds me of- oh where am I going with this?" She groaned and threw the flower on the ground.
"Do I have a snowballs chance?" she sang to the heavens. "Are my prospects just too grim? I spent my life stuck in the mud, now I'm crawling out on a limb."
Pausing, she ran an emerald finger along the tree branch before picking the flower back up off the ground.
"If words fail, he'll know what I mean." She smiled to herself. "If words fail, he'll just take my hand. He sees me like no one else has."
She took a deep breath and mustered her courage, as she saw Fiyero approach the area she asked him to meet her at. "If words fail, he'll understand. He'll understand."
Fiyero grinned as soon as he saw her by the picnic. In that moment, she knew everything would be okay. No matter the outcome.
