A/N: So this is technically not a chapter—well not a full one. It's basically a teaser of what's to come. I will post the whole thing when it's finished. I haven't decided whether to post it in parts or one really long chapter. This is the first part of it I hope you enjoy.

I. Silent Partner

She met him in a diner. And no, it wasn't love at first sight. Gravity didn't shift and her world didn't revolve around him. He was simply just there and so was she. They didn't have a deep conversation or that fiery spark that had them at each other's throats. He was simply alone and saw her alone, so he decided that they should be alone together. She gave him a confused look when he sat down, but was curious as to where it would go, so she left it alone. He had dark hair and kind dark eyes. His skin was slightly tanned with a dull pallor that made Leah think he could really benefit from a good night's sleep. He was wearing a thick black jacket made to withstand the weather—he hadn't bothered to take it off even though the heater was on full blast. He was tall, but Leah could tell that he was shorter than her. She didn't really know what to expect from him, but it wasn't what she got.

They sat in silence the entire time until she got up to leave. He said, "same time tomorrow?"

Normally she'd just tell him to fuck off, but if she really minded his presence she would have told him that earlier. So with a small smile gracing her face she simply nodded her head.

It was nice being around someone and being able to just be. Nothing required but her presence. So she met him the next day in the same exact spot and they continued on as though the other wasn't there respecting each other's space.

She was the first to break the silence about a week from their first meeting. "So quiet boy, you have a name?"

He looked up from his crossword and replied. "Of course. Do you have a name, quiet girl?"

"Of course." Nothing else was said to each other for the rest of the day.

The next day he was the one to break their silence. "So, what's your name?"

She silently debated whether or not to give it and she could come up with no reason not to she replied, "Leah, you?"

He smiled, "Pretty, Micah."

She nodded in confirmation; she now had a name to go with her lunchtime companion. She found her entire relationship with him odd and like nothing she's ever experienced before, but it wasn't bad. His presence was calming and really helped her keep her wolf in check. She found being alone let her thoughts wander too much, which is why she came to the diner in the first place. She hoped focusing on the other people there would distract her enough to keep her in check and it did to a degree, but then her mind would block them out and go back to thoughts she was trying to avoid. Thoughts of home, or what was once her home. But then he sat down in front of her. He kept her mind occupied with the mystery behind him. Questions came across her mind every time he was near, but she never voiced them in fear that having the answers would leave room in her mind to wander.

This fear had obviously started to waiver, but only a little. As days went by they collected new information about each other treating it as though they were simply facts in a book. It wasn't until six months that they finally had their first actual conversation.

"So why did you come sit with me that day?"

He stared at her with his mouth open and eyes looking toward the side as he figured out how to phrase it without seeming creepy. Realizing that the was no way around it, he simply spoke the truth. "Uh, I saw you sitting alone."

Leah pulled her eyebrows in confusion. "So, lots of people sit alone. Are you telling me that you sit next to every person you sitting alone?"

He had to laugh, he was worried she'd think he was some creep, but instead, she was more worried about the other people he sat with. "No, I don't sit with every person I see alone. I actually usually stick to my own business, but with you, it was different. You had this look about you that said you were completely alone and I guess I could relate to that." He was silent for a moment and then with a shrug of his shoulders he finished answering the question. "So I decided we should be completely alone together. It had to be better than being completely alone alone."

Leah gave him the most genuine smile that she had in years. Not only had this stranger been able to understand her emotions more than anyone ever had, but he also knew what to do with them. He knew not to give her the things will get better BS line or the toughen up, life's unfair so get over it line everyone else felt the need to tell her back home. He knew just to let her be and things would work out eventually.

"Well, thank you. Because you're right, being alone together is better."

"You're welcome." He said it so quietly that had she not had super hearing she would not have heard him. He went back to his crossword of the day and she went back to her coffee.

A/N: So this is part of an epilogue of sorts. The full thing will basically bring a complete closure to Leah in terms of her life as a whole instead of just in terms of Sam and Emily. I'm working on getting the full thing posted very soon, but it needs to be perfect and that may take more time than we all want, but will be necessary. I would have waited, but I've been sitting on this for a while already and I wanted to share some of it.
