Chapter 27. Compromise

Emmett POV

When the she-wolf whined into Kyles arms, Rosalie stopped struggling in my arms and the wolves stood their ground on the edge of the woods. We all waited for Kyles response.

"its ok." He whispered as he held Leah's head and rubbed her back as she continued to cry. My son has every right to be terrified or angry at this girl, but instead he's comforting her. Every instinct is telling me to separate them, but all I can see when I look at Kyle and Leah Is me and Rosalie. That look of pain and regret is a look I know too well. I've seen it every day for the last hundred years in Rosalie's eyes. Kyle looked like me trying to keep her together and make the despair disappear.

"Take a walk with me." I said to Rosalie. She looked up at me like I was crazy

"Now. Just leave Kyle like this."

"Kyle is with the rest of the family. He'll be fine." I turned to everyone. "watch after him." Everyone nodded. Kyle looked back at me and pleaded with his eyes to make Rosalie change her mind. I looked back at him with a smile and a nod then took Rosalie's hand to run a few miles away for privacy.

The second we stopped Rosalie started "I'm not changing my mind."

"Rose it's not as simple as forbidding Kyle from see her anymore."

"yes it..."

"No, it's not! This isn't like Angela, Kyle is an imprint. That means whether you like it or not Leah is going to be a part of Kyles life now. And by extension ours too."

"if you're trying to change my mind by making this seem like its better than it is, you're not helping your case."

She forgets how well I know her. "I know what this is really about." Rose raises her eyebrow at me. "You don't want to have to share Kyle. Especially with another woman that's capable of taking him away from you." He expression saddened. I went to her and put my arms around her. But if you make Kyle stay away from her or eventually make him choose it will only make Kyle resent you. And because of the imprint he will feel a constant presence of pain and loss." Rosalie took a moment to think over what I said and accept that I was right. "I'm not saying that she's off the hook for hurting Kyle. There will definitely be rules when it comes to them visiting each other."

As Kyles parent left Carlisle tried to get Leah's attention.

"Leah…Leah" the second try worked. Leah sniffed then raised her head to Carlisle. Why don't you go change into human form and you and Kyle can go inside?" Under his breath he whispered to Esme to watch over them. She nodded. Leah also nodded as she slowly stood to go to behind the trees. Kyle watched her go behind the tree until she appeared on two legs back to him.

"Come on you two." Esme smiled sweetly and walked toward the house, "let's go wait in the living room." Kyle immediately went to follow her, but Leah hesitated. She didn't like the idea of going into the crypt.

-Why do we have to leave if this is about us. Its not like we're five. - Leah thought. Kyle noticed that Leah wasn't following behind him and turned to her. He smiled after a moment and reached his hand out to her. She headed his call and took his hand. -Why is he being so nice to me. He should be scared angry, sullen. Anything but happy to have me around and understanding. - Leah tried to smile back at him but came out more like a grimace. Once Kyle Esme and Leah were inside that left the remain wolves and Cullens outside to face each other.

"We came to hope that we can come to a compromise on the terms of the treaty line when it comes to Leah visiting Kyle." Same broke the silence; with the help of Edward.

"Of course. Ephraim explained the importance of imprints, but technically I am unable to make the decision for Kyles welfare. Emmett and Rosalie are his parents in our family, they would have to make the ultimate decision." Carlisle answered. This made the wolves raise their eyebrows. "When it come to Kyle going to visit on the reservation, but Leah is free ti visit Kyle here wont be a problem."

Emmett and Rosalie ran back in to where everyone was standing. Carlisle turned to them,

"we were just talking about Kyle and there was a great so far really asked with her arms cross trying to stay calm You can come to our lands to visit Kyle.

"Kyle can't ever be alone with her though." Rosalie stated "only if at least 1 of us is with them."

"fine" Sam answered "it'll be the same and Kyle comes on the reservation."

"what!' and turned to Emmett but he was already nodding in agreement.

"Kyle can go into the reservation We can't. more wolves will change if we do." Emmett Reasoned.

"and we'd be out numbered." Jasper whispered low enough that the wolves couldn't hear.

"fine!" She agreed. Then looked around and followed Kyles scent to inside the house with Esme and 'Her'. "But of anything happens to Kyle I'm going to hold each of you responsible. "She seethed as she turned back to the wolves.

"Understood. "Sam answered.

Kyle bounded out the front door with an eager smile on his face as he notices his parents were back.

"Mom Dad, can Leah stay for lunch. Esme already said that she would make extra." Kyle was bouncing on his heels in excitement Looking like a little kid with a huge smile. Rosalie wanted to say no automatically, but never could when Kyle looked at her like that.

"Sure." Emmett answered with a forced smile. He didn't think Rosalie could say it. Kyle smiled back in appreciation and ran back into the house.

"we can't just leave my sister here alone Seth thought. but Edward spoke it allowed.

"He doesn't want to leave his sister." Carlisle knodded and turned to the wolves.

"Esme would love to have a few more guest." "I really would. I'm loving this." Esme answered from the kitchen preparing to make a lunch for an army. Carlisle turned to the rest of the wolves,

"you're welcome to stay for lunch as well." the rest of the Cullen's held back are groan and so did the wolves. Seth ran into the woods to shift back into a human form. a few seconds later Seth Came out in sweatpants and ran inside to the kitchen. All the Cullen's noticed how much smaller and younger he was compared to the others.

"how old is he." jasper asked as Seth slammed the front door shut.

"quit slamming the door this isn't our house!" Leah yelled at him.

"he's 13 Sam answered.

"well if there isn't any other business we need to take care of the rest of you may join us inside.

"no thank you." Sam finalized "we're going back to the reservation. we've been away too long." " that's fine." Carlos smiled, "Leah and her brother can stay for as long as they like." Sam nodded back at him then ordered the rest of the pack to spread out to their posts.

As the wolves left Carlisle Emmett and Rosalie went into the house, but Edward left to go hangout with Angela. Alice and Jasper went anywhere but into the house since Jasper would have been too agitated staying in the house with wolves. they found Kyle sitting closely to Leah in the kitchen and Seth at the table as well enjoying Esme's stir fry. Seth had already finished his first plate and was asking for another. Esme complied happily and was loving that she had an excuse to cook more. It didn't hurt that she also found Seth to be adorable. she gladly they gave him another serving. Seth looked up as Cullen's came in.

"which one of you is Emmett." He asks quickly.

"me." Emmett answered as he moved to sit next to Kyle. excitedly Seth continued his question.

"Are those really all your video games." slightly taken aback at Seth's energy but found it funny he answered.

"most of them. the army and hunting ones are jasper's.

"cool can I play." he smiled with all his charm.

"Sure." Whats with this kid Emmett raised his eyebrow He's not agitated at all about being in a house full of vampires. Seth smiled and went back to his plate.

"so, Leah." Rosalie said and she sat next to Emmett. Kyle stiffened and dropped his fork. he remembered the last time Rosalie had questioned about a girl he was interested in., he knew how hot-tempered Rosalie could get, but not quite if Leah was easily angered Kyle turned to his mother and pleaded with his eyes.

"calm down Kyle. I'll be good" she said with a smile. that didn't stop Kyles look; he knew better. Emmet patted his back and left his arm around him. Leah look back and forth between Kyle and Rosalie's smile.

"so how old are you." Rosalie asked turning back to Leah.

"Seventeen." Leah Answered with a smile as well

"Oh, so you're still a junior, Yes?"

"Yeah."

"how does that work with the wolf thing."

"the pack are in a special home-schooling program because that of all the patrols."

"oh, so are on patrols too. you may not be able to see Kyle that much."

- that didn't take long.- Kyle thought with a sigh. Leah heard the hidden meaning of the Question of how often am I really going to have to deal with you. Leah straightened herself and smiled.

"One or two days out of the week yes, but I will still be able to visit Kyle. Sam has me patrolling at the tree line and close to the property so I'll be able to get back to Kyle in case anything happens." Leah smiled. -yes, you are going to have to do deal with me a lot-. Rosalie kept her expression fixed with a smile. Kyle, Esme, Carlisle, and Seth new better than to make a sound as Rosalie and Leah were challenging each other. they were afraid the slightest twitch could set them off.

"so, you want to play those Video games?" Emmett said quickly to Seth.

"yeah" Seth answered. Jumping from his seat to head to the living room Kyle wanted to stay to keep Rosalie and Leah from killing each other. Emmett didn't let him stay to figure it out.

"Come on Kyle." Emmett said as he Lifted call from a seat by his arms and back on his feet to drag him to the living room with Seth. "Don't worry they won't hurt each other, because they love and care about you." Emmett yell behind himself so Rosalie and Leah would behave themselves. Rosalie and Leah gaze and fixed smiles never left their faces.

Carlisle and Esme fallowed after knowing that this conversation had to happen and that it wasn't going to with the family watching.

The second they left the doorway Rosalie and Leah dropped all pretense of staying friendly.

"what the heck made you think that you could just show up here with your dogs and act as if everything is okay." Rosalie scowled.

"because I needed to make sure Kyle was ok for myself, and we needed to talk about what happened at the treaty line." Leah growled

"don't think I didn't notice we didn't actually talk about you attacking my son. Apparently, all Kyle had to do with hug you to clear your conscience."

"don't ever presume to know me. ever!" Leah was beginning to shake. "you don't know anything."

"I know you would attack my son for no reason and you can't control yourself."

"I was protecting him! you attacked him at the treaty line. here's something else you obviously don't know. Wolves can smell injuries on their mates. when you grabbed Kyle to get him away from me, you almost fractured the bone. And I wasn't trying to attack Kyle. I was trying to kill you for hurting my mate!"

Rosalie was shocked but she kept her face straight. everyone in the living room heard Leah except Kyle. Emmett stopped playing and turned to Carlisle.

"did she really?" Emmett whispered to Carlisle. Carlisle nodded, but hadn't told Kyle.

"I've never intentionally harmed Kyle." Rosalie answered when she got her voice back.

I've never intentionally done it either." Leah said "and as far as me having a clear conscience I can never have one again. every time Kyle looks with me I'll have to remember that I'm the one who scarred him. Rosalie didn't know what to say. she looked at Leah and could tell she was in Being honest, but still hated her.
