Hope from the Future: Reborn in Fire

Godzlla unleashed his Atomic Breath on Ghidorah and pushed him off the ground and into the air…and watched him fall back onto the ground.

Unfortunately, Ghidorah wasn't as harmed as he was annoyed by this attack as he got back up. Charging with his bio-electrical energy, he spread his massive wings and unleashed bolts of lightning everywhere!

"Aaaaaaauurgh!" All three of his heads shrieked, watching as his enemies backed away when Kong received a bolt to his left arm, singing the hair off.

"Grrrrraah!" Kong roared.

Wherever Rodan flew off to, it had better been worth this.

With one last look at the world it was trying to protect from his enemies, Rodan shrieked as he flew head first into the volcano, immersing himself in the molten lava.

All Mothra Leo had to do was buy time for this move to take affect, otherwise, they'd be down another ally.

This Rodan might've been a descendant of the ones that came before, possessing a small memory of a strange behemoth with a horn and armor-like flesh, but it knew pain in every sense of what it did and what was done to itself, and immersing itself in lava was not like taking a dive into the ocean water or a lake. It was more like falling into mud, and letting it take over every last inch of your body, outside and inside. If it could scream, howl out in agony, it would've done so, but would it have mattered? Would any of this, what it was doing now, matter?

Leo had faced other threats before, but this MUTO capable of flight was not like the previous foes. There was no sense of power beyond the ability to release these EMP pulse waves from its scythe-like forelimbs. All it really possessed was flight, strength, those EMP bursts, and its own tenacity, none of which made it much an actual threat if he was in his armored form.

"Iiiieee!" He chirped as he flew higher to evade the male MUTO.

"Guuurd! Ugh!" The MUTO roared at him as he continued to pursue him; with the other creature apparently dead from a suicidal dunk in the volcano, he saw no reason to concern himself with anything other than the remaining foes for rulership of this world.

His primary concern, alongside keeping his mate protected…was that big creature he encountered earlier.

"…Tell me Rodan didn't just dive into a volcano," Misato gasped.

"If it wasn't a volcano, then I guess the lava was just glorified jelly," Kaji responded.

Not even Gendo or Ritsuko could understand why an ancient creature that resembled a dinosaur would do this. There was no logic in committing an act of self-destruction to one's own existence in a battle between rival factions for something as important as taking the world.

"Shinji wrote in one of his diaries of how he met an American man that worked for Monarch," Gendo thought back to when Ritsuko explained what she had discovered the Third Child had done in the past during his time employed by this group of monster researchers. "The man, William Randa, made the claim that Shinji believed to be true because it was a fact that occurred before. It was how this world doesn't belong to us. It belongs to these creatures he helped them to either capture or kill. But while he did accept that this to be truth, he couldn't accept that this world would be taken back entirely by these creatures from the past. He chose to believe in coexistence, that all of us could share this world."

Except Gendo, after Lilith had been devoured by the female MUTO, couldn't believe in coexistence between humans and these…giant animals that existed at different points in the past and were now all here in the present. It was either the human race ruled…or become the endangered species next to be extinct.

"Major Katsuragi," went Maya to Misato, "didn't one of those diaries of Shinji's suggest something about these creatures that some people in Monarch believe to be possible?"

"Possibly," Misato responded. "Why?"

"Because there are signs of life being detected within the volcano that Rodan dove into."

"That…shouldn't be possible," Ritsuko expressed. "Even a dinosaur couldn't survive in molten lava for too long."

On the screens, the signs for Mt. Mihara's volcanic activity were increasing, like it was getting ready to erupt, despite the fact that none of the other geological factors supported any eruption.

BOOM! The crater of the volcano exploded into a geyser of lava spewing into the air as something burst from it, spreading its wing-like appendages.

"My God!" Misato gasped.

"Rodan?" Kaji questioned, unsure of how to make sense of this now.

"More like Fire Rodan," Hyuga stated.

On the screens, they could see as the lava dispersed in the air, the creature that had been Rodan looked as though it had taken on a rougher, sturdier appearance, covered in a burgundy-colored layer of molten flesh, its wings trailing bits of lava on the edges. Whatever Rodan had done to itself in order to end up like this, it must've had the intended effect desired.

"It must be a form of accelerated pyrostasis," Ritsuko suggested.

"What, you're saying that thing just took a dunk in the volcano and just let it adjust to living in it faster than what time allows?" Shigeru asked.

"Self-mutation," she explained. "It adapted its DNA to the extreme heat and pressure of its volcanic environment in order to obtain the new form it now has."

But upon realizing this, Gendo suspected that this accelerated process that Rodan achieved had likely made it harder to injure through conventional means. If anything, this was similar to how the Eighth Angel had adapted to the harsh environment of Mt. Asama, only that threat didn't develop any flight capabilities.

The newly-adapted Rodan then flew towards Mothra Leo and the male MUTO.

Ghidorah had to admit that these…abominations that stood between him and the domination of this world were putting their all into stopping him, including Godzilla, who growled in fury at his heads. He would have to unleash the full intensity of his storm manipulation. Flapping his wings with more forced, Ghidorah unleashed the full force of his power to make the surrounding area a virtual death zone.

"Rrrrrrrrraaaaurgh!" All three of his heads shrieked as electrical bolts discharged from the tips of his wings and into the air.

Suddenly, the heat in the air felt hotter, and Kong started to feel like it was getting harder to breathe for some reason.

"Grrr," he growled.

Godzilla could feel the air feeling thinner, but it wasn't enough to affect him, but it was likely to affect the others because they were of a much lesser class of power. The two Mothras could probably still withstand Ghidorah's sphere of influence because they rarely required oxygen, possibly Rodan because he could fly at high altitudes where the air was thin, maybe the MUTOs to a degree, but every other creature had to get away.

"Aaaaauurgh!" They heard something shriek.

Ghidorah's left head looked up and saw something…on fire and moving fast in the air, despite the heavy rain and strong wind.

"Gaaurph!" The head went, narrowing its eyes to get a better look at the flying object.

It looked like…Rodan, but exhibiting signs of being on fire. This made Ghidorah further disgusted with these creatures that persisted against him; each time they were bested, they tried something else that was just another reckless attempt to defy and escape their fate, which was to die so that this world could belong to him. But realization struck Ghidorah in one way that was off: He saw no sign of the flying MUTO.

Blaze of the Fallen

The male MUTO hadn't anticipated this new form of the other flying creature that was a threat to him and his mate being much harder to contend with. It wasn't because of its new form being a huge change from the former sleek design it possessed, but because of what he didn't anticipate it being capable of doing.

Rodan, despite rapidly adapting to the harsh environment he dove into when he sought out Mt. Mihara, had developed an additional ability when the male MUTO had tried to stab him in the waist with one of his scythe-like appendages: Rodan's blood had become similar to the lava that coursed through the planet, able to melt through anything that was vulnerable to it, including the armored hide of another creature that wasn't capable of living in a hazardous environment. And the blood that spilled out of the minor wound had got on the male MUTO's head…and ate right through to the brain.

"Aaaugh!" He shrieked, no longer able to feel anything, and fell to the ocean below.

"Geeeeaaaurgh!" Rodan shrieked in victory against the MUTO and flew towards the ruins of Tokyo, now, more than ever, determined to assist in the defeat of the remaining enemies that would destroy the world.

-x-

Ghidorah had to consider the possibility that the flying MUTO was deceased and now their numbers were reduced to just him and the female MUTO. But even if she didn't survive, he would be enough to suffice. In the end, Ghidorah would be all that was necessary to take this world and eliminate all life on this miserable planet that was already halfway to Hell because of the previous incidents of devastation that occurred prior to his return.

"Gaaaurgh!" The female MUTO suddenly keeled over, looking as though she were having difficulty time breathing due to Ghidorah's weather manipulation.

But Ghidorah didn't care about her; his sole concern was the eradication of all life on this planet…which, unfortunately, included her.

To be continued…

A/N: All that seems to be left is for Mothra to assume a form similar to or exactly like that of her MonsterVerse self. I know it seems scientifically impossible for Rodan to achieve such a feat in such a short time, but I had to keep the story going with interest. Plus, some of the scene was due to watching Shin Godzilla, so the idea of self-mutation was possible for Rodan to achieve if done just right, since we live in a world of gods and monsters. And now we have King Ghidorah going solo against the others that can endure his storm. What do you suspect will happen next?
