A/N: Written for the Yugioh all seasons flash bingo, #106 – tap. This takes place in the context of WC2008. Still counts as GX since no synchro monsters (those start from 2009).

The Value of Taps

He missed taps. It was a lot harder to drink thirstily when one had to scoop up water.

He missed a lot of things actually, but coming out of the pyramid and drinking from the shore-water, he missed a tap the most. Or even a glass or a bottle would have done. Instead, there was only a sneezing dinosaur by the edge not yet done smarting over his last loss.

It was a strange world. Not at all convenient but it was safe. No-one attacked him. Everyone just wanted to duel and when he won, he got money. When he lost, he had to fork it over though – but he was decent. He won more times than he lost. And he could buy cards from the card shack to make his deck stronger. There were loads of those. And no place to find food or drink. But water was a plentiful even in this desert world. Just inside the pyramid where there'd been only dust and traps, there was nothing.

Food was…manageable. The world he'd been in before had plenty of trees and vegetation, and the door was there if he ever needed to go back. What the monsters in this world ate didn't sit well with his own constitution – flies and worms and such – but the things from the other world were fine and juicy and, so far, hadn't become plain. And as long as there wasn't a world that resembled ice-land, his jumper could be recast as a carrying sack. But water wouldn't hold in a woollen jumper and he hadn't anything that would do better.

Bottles, taps, cups – they were convenient things he'd taken for granted before but missed now.
