Godric Gryffindor/Hermione Granger
A/N: This is a snippet of a multi-chapter story that will soon be published
He did not care which thread of magic had sent her to him. He was not going to question it; he was not going to try to decode it. It mattered not. He was content just watching her sleep beside him. She was spent and so was he, but the pull of slumber had not been strong enough to drag him under its depths just yet.
Godric Gryffindor had not expected to fall in love with her. The others - Salazar, Rowena, and even sweet Helga had been skeptical. But even after the span of such a short while, he had vowed to spend whatever time they had left together keeping her eyes dry of tears and her throat filled with laughter. And should anything even try to harm her, he would slay it with his wand in one hand and his claymore in the other.
She began to stir gently and Godric watched as her deep brown eyes fluttered open, her brows furrowing, painting her pale and freckled features with a look of innocent curiosity.
"Are you all right, Godric?" she murmured and a small smile tugged at the corners of his bearded lips as he pressed them gently to hers, a large hand combing tenderly through her thick, wiry curls.
"Aye Hermione," he said, amused by the strange, futuristic phrasing of her words, "I am."
