The characters of Lieutenant Commander Steven 'Steve' McGarrett, Chin Ho Kelly, Kono Kalakaua, Adam 'Toast' Charles and Governor Patricia Jameson do not belong to me in any shape or form. I am merely using them for my own entertainment purposes.

The character of Detective Sergeant Danielle 'Danni' Williams probably can be considered to be mine by now. Although she was originally based on male Danny, she soon evolved becoming her own person. She has her own background, her own family, her own history and her own distinct personality. This isn't to say that the Danny Williams we all know and love is completely gone, he still emerges through her at times. I like to think of female Danni as what Danny could have been if everything in his life had gone his way. As in full custody of Grace and a decent relationship with his ex.

The character of Grace has also changed slightly due to the change in Danni. Her surname is Taylor as this is her father's surname and was Danni's married name (Danni reverted back to her maiden name when she was divorced). Her parents also are amicable which has also impacted Grace but never fear, she's still the sweetheart we know and love, if anything she's more a sweetheart now.

The character of Jack O'Connor, David Williams and Riley King also belong to me as does any other character who you do not recognise from the show. Please do not use them, or my version of Danni and Grace without first asking for my permission to do so.

The places I've mentioned in Hawaii are ones which come from google, including the addresses. I've never been to Hawaii myself in person so I apologise for any mistakes which I may make, these are not intentional.

Chapter Six

You're serious?

Danni smiled softly to herself she headed across the patio area towards the table which Steve had reserved for them to eat their breakfast on, her thoughts drifting away to the previous night and that morning when Steve had woken her in the most pleasant of fashions.

She was by herself for the moment while Steve spoke to Toast in the main lobby area, the younger man filing him in on what they had found out from their search on their main suspects. Danni had stared at him in surprise, a smile coming to her face when she realised that Toast had dressed himself up as one of the porters in an attempt to blend in so he could talk to Steve without arousing any suspicion. He looked surprisingly cute in the outfit, the awkward expression on his face merely adding to it though she had made sure not to mention that. Instead she had squeezed down on Steve's hand and moved on knowing that Steve would fill her in on the conversation later on.

She felt pleasantly achy as she lowered herself into one of the seats, reaching out and picking up the menu in front of her, pretending to study it in detail as her eyes flickered around her trying to spot where the rest of the team had situated themselves. She could see Jack and Kono, flirting with each other at the buffet team, the sight bringing a smile to her face, it was no secret that Kono had always carried a small flame for the tall blond since the time he had joined though it appeared that he had never realised it himself.

"Good morning Ma'am, can I get you anything to drink while you decide what you want to eat?" Danni blinked at the unfamiliar voice addressing her, turning her attention away from her two friends to focus on the waiter who was standing beside her with a questioning look on his face.

"Good morning, if I could get two coffees then that would be great thank you. I'm just waiting for my husband to join me before ordering food though knowing him, he'll choose the all you can eat buffet." She explained, reaching up and tucking a loose curl behind her ear.

"Of course, Ma'am I'll have your coffees made up straight away and brought over to you." He replied, his eyes lingering briefly on her face before he turned and headed in the direction of the bar area.

Danni watched him for a second wondering whether the waiter was involved in any capacity before she breathed out, glancing around her again wondering what was taking Steve so long to join her. She smiled when the waiter appeared again beside her, placing a mug of coffee in front of her and one in front of the empty chair in opposite her.

"Thank you" She said with a nod towards him before she wrapped her hand around it, picking it up and blowing on the hot liquid before she took a small sip, sighing happily at the rich taste of the coffee.

"Mrs FitzGerald, I'm sorry to interrupt your breakfast but there is a telephone call for you."

"A telephone call for me?" Danni repeated, twisting around in her chair and finding herself confronted with the Porter from the previous day. She fixed her face into a surprised expression as she continued to speak. "I wasn't expecting one, I hope it's nothing serious, where can I take it?" She queried, looking down at his empty hand as though she expected him to have a phone in his hand. He followed her gaze for a moment before focusing his eyes back on her face, a cold look in them which unnerved her slightly, confirming in her mind that this was the man they were looking for.

"You'll have to come to reception to take it I'm afraid, Shall I take you there?" He offered her.

Danni forced a smile as she nodded, knowing without looking that Kono and Jack had noticed the conversation and had moved close enough that they would be able to overhear what he was saying. From the way Jack was ducking his head he was no doubt informing the rest of the team that the man was making his move. The fact the had chosen a busy time simply showed how overly confident he now was.

"That would be really helpful if you could, I'm guessing there is a code you have to put in or something. Will my table and drinks be held for me until my husband arrives and will someone tell him when I've gone. I don't want him to worry, especially since we're on our second honeymoon together." She told him, watching as the man's dark eyes narrowed for a second before, he nodded.

"Your table will be held for you and I'll personally let your husband know where you are." He assured her.

"In that case lets go, I don't want to keep whoever it is waiting." Danni said briskly, leaning down and picking her bag up from beside her, she shouldered it and followed him away from the crowded porch area towards a quiet area which Danni knew from studying the maps of the hotel wouldn't lead them to the reception area at all. Adrenaline began pumping through her system making her hyper aware of the man in front of her and the area surrounding her.

"We're right behind you Danni" Kono murmured quietly over the earpiece.

Danni remained silent as she followed the man to a door which he opened for her, stepping back to allow her through first. She shot him another smile as she passed him, her right hand curving into a fist as she caught a flash of silver to the side of her. The minute the door closed Danni twisted away, bringing her bag up and using the material to block the needle which he had tried to plunge into her arm, she caught a glimpse of shock on his face, using the distraction to her advantage as she kicked out with her foot, connecting with his knee with enough force that it buckled, sending him down to one knee. She twisted on the spot, kicking him around the face in a move which Kono had taught her during one of their last training sessions sending the perp down into an inelegant heap on the floor. She reached back, grabbing her gun from the waistband of her skirt and pointed it at him.

"Five-O, keep your hands where I can see them." She stated coldly, moving back slightly into a defensive position when she caught the look in his eyes when he looked up at her, a look which told her that this man wasn't going to do what she asked and was instead going to fight her every step of the way. A fight she would struggle to win now that she had lost the element of surprise. She tensed before her muscles relaxed when Steve appeared behind the Porter, a look of rage on his face as he looked down at him.

"I would listen to my wife if I was you" He warned, a tone of darkness to his voice which was rarely heard.

The man glanced behind him, his eyes flickering to Steve and then over to Jack and Kono as they appeared on the scene, their own guns pointed at him before he focused on Danni again. His face blank as Steve roughly yanked his arms behind him, securing them with handcuffs before bringing him to his feet and twisting him around so that he was facing him.

"We know what you've done, you should save yourself a lot of hassle and tell us where are the other coupes you took and where you dumped them?" He stated before shoving him towards Jack who caught him. "Book him O'Connor and put him in interview room one. We'll join you there shortly to start interviewing him. Kono go with them." Steve growled watching as Jack led the man away with Kono right behind them, reading him his Miranda rights.

"Well that went better than I expected it to go." Danni remarked, breaking the silence between them. Steve glanced back at her, a smile curling his mouth as he bridged the gap between her, his hand resting on her upper arm, stroking the soft skin with his thumb.

"Are you okay? Did he managed to get any hits in or anything?" He demanded, his eyes scanning her, searching for any sign of visible injury. Danni shook her head.

"He tried to plunge that into me but I was prepared and blocked it with my bag" She told him, nodding her head towards the needle which lay on the floor beside them, filled with some sort of clear liquid. "I think that will confirm our theory that he drugs the women and then blitzed the husbands when they find their wives unconscious on the floor. I can't see how else he could have done it. I know I took him by surprise but he went down surprisingly easily." She said with a frown.

"Speaking of which how did you know to go for his knee when you were fighting?" Steve asked her curiously, raising an eyebrow at her when she smiled at him.

"Saw that part of the fight then?" She asked, her smile widening into a grin when he nodded at her before she continued speaking. "I went for the knee because I am a Detective Steven, I noticed from the minute he began to walk that he was limping slightly. I figured there must have been a pre-existing injury that he was recovering from, maybe on of his victims didn't go down quite as quietly as he expected and got a lucky hit in. I knew he was going to try something as soon as we were alone so I was ready. I'm turning into quite the little fighter now that Kono and Riley are training me." She pointed out with a laugh.

"So, I've noticed." Steve replied warmly, glancing around him quickly to make sure they were still alone before he brought his hands up to frame her face and leaned down to her, stealing a quick kiss before he pulled back, wishing he had time to do more. "We should get the needle over to CSU for them to test it and then head back to headquarters and see what we can get out of there. David and Riley are still out in the jungle so as soon as we get the location, we can get them over there. Toast is on his way back to headquarters and Chin is packing up the equipment from the suite."

"Let's head over there then, I don't want to give this guy the time to come up with a story or to leave those people out there any longer than they have been." Danni agreed, bringing her hand up to his cheek for a moment before she patted it and moved passed him, leaving him to pull on a glove and pick up the needle, placing it into an evidence bag.

Within hours they had the information which they had needed. The Porter, who Toast had informed them was called Grant walker, finally gave up the coordinates where he had dumped the other missing couples. David and Riley had headed over there with their team and found the couple along the route, cold and dehydrated but thankfully all still alive. They had swiftly been taken to the nearest hospital for treatment

Danni stood in the hospital, reaching up and rubbing at the back of her neck as she watched through the open doorway of one of the rooms as Chin and Kono worked their magic in getting the statements from the injured couples. She had come to the hospital, content to leave the interview of the suspect to Jack and Steve and interviewed one of the waiting couples already.

The sound of approaching footsteps attracted her attention and she glanced towards them, surprised to see Steve come to a stop beside her, his gaze focusing on the room for a moment before he turned back to her.

"I wish we were at home right now Danno" He murmured quietly, moving closer to her so he was well within her personal space. She laughed softly at the comment, shaking her head before she spoke.

"I feel the same way" She admitted before she sighed and rested her hand over her stomach with a rueful look. "You would have thought that the bastard would have least had the decency to wait until I had breakfast before attacking me. I haven't eaten since yesterday and I'm starving now."

She raised an eyebrow at the wide grin Steve shot her before he pulled a bag out from behind his back and held it up in front of her.

"So, I'm guessing that you really want some of this then? I went and got it before coming here, I figured that you might be hungry after everything which has happened today." He told her, his grin widening further clearly catching the look of pleasure which came to her face when she noticed the bran name stamped on the white bag.

"You are literally one of my favourite human beings ever at this moment in time." She told him softly.

"Don't you mean that I'm always ones of your favourite people" He responded with a wink which had her rolling her eyes. She ignored it, instead reaching out and taking the bag from him. Pulling the bag open she glanced inside, moaning happily when she saw that he had gotten her all her favourite food.

"God, I love you" She said warmly before looking thoughtfully towards the room. "I think Chin and Kono have everything under wraps here for a while. We could go down to the canteen and eat this together before heading back to Headquarters? I should really start getting the paperwork done while you brief the Governor about the case." She suggested to him.

"That sounds like a plan to me" He agreed, following her through the crowded hospital until they reached the canteen which thankfully wasn't as busy. They found a table, claiming it for themselves and sat down, both remaining silent while Danni shared out the food. It was only when they were half way through the meal that Danni spoke again.

"Toast called me earlier, he gave me some of the background which he had found about Walker. It turns out that he had been married to a woman for ten years and they had just celebrated their second honeymoon when she served him with divorce papers. It turns out that she had been sleeping with his best friend since the beginning of their marriage. I guess that seeing happy couples having what he used to have just triggered him."

"It probably took a while for him to find a couple who fit his criteria. It would explain why he came to Hawaii; most people would come to a place like here to celebrate an event like that." Steve agreed softly with a shake of his head. He watched as Danni looked away from her, her fingers twisting the wedding rings which she still wore around her finger, a pensive look in her eyes when she looked back towards him.

"I guess now that the job is over and done with that, you'll be wanting these backs." She commented, lifting her hand up so it was facing him, the diamond flashing in the bright overhead light. There was a look in her eyes which made it clear that she didn't want to follow that course of action though she remained quiet. He looked down at his own ring which he had failed to take off as well and came to a decision which he knew had always been there in his mind.

"What if I don't want you to give them back to me." He said simply, his voice low. "What if we go and pick Grace up from where she is, pick up the other members of the team and head over to the court house and get married for real. We could some something bigger to celebrate another time with the rest of our families and friends."

Danni stared at him with wide grey eyes, her mouth partly open as though she couldn't quite believe what she was hearing.

"Are you…" She stopped for a moment placing her food back into the container, wiping her hands on a napkin before she continued, a rare shaky quality to her voice which he had only heard once to twice from her in the past. "Are you asking me to marry you Steve?"

Steve nodded at her.

"Let's be honest love the two of us are already married in every way that actually counts and we have been for a long time though neither of us realised it. I love you Danni and I've been in love with you probably since the moment I saw you in my dad's garage threatening to call an ambulance if I didn't get lost. It just took me a while to realise what I was feeling. I think over the past year we've already proved that we're good together both in work and out of it and last night confirmed that the sex between us is electric and mind-blowing. Any time I think about the future Danni I see you beside me. You are all I want in this world and I want you and me and Grace to be a family together. I want this" He said lifting his own hand to indicate his own ring. "To be real."

"You know most people tend to date before they consider marriage to one another." Danni remarked after a pause, her comment causing Steve to shrug at her.

"We've been dating since we met, it just so happens that we didn't realise it even though everyone else apparently did. If you don't want to Danni then we don't have to mention this again and we can just carry on dating, as long as I have you then I don't mind." He stated, feeling naked beneath her gaze.

"You're actually serious about this?" She asked.

"I've never been more serious about anything in my life" He answered truthfully. "We already have the rings Danni, I bought you the rings with this in my mind though I didn't realise it at the time. All it would take is one phone call and our Ohana would be at the court house." He said as he reached across the table and took her hand in his. "Marry me Danni and make me the happiest man alive. Let me love you the way you deserve to be loved and lets be a family together." He listened as she breathed out slowly before she nodded at him.

"Yes" She said, the simple word causing his heart to skip a beat.

"Yes, as in yes you'll marry me?" He asked hopefully, a wide grin coming to his face which reflected on her.

"Yes, I'll marry you Steve, I mean someone has to keep you in check so it might as be me, not to mention the fact that I'm in love with you and want to be with you. You need to be sure about this Steve because there will be no turning back for us, I don't want to have to go through another divorce. You need to be certain that you want to be married." She stated.

"Danni, I have never been surer of anything in my life. I want you to be my wife" He replied, the response causing her to laugh happily.

"In that case lets finish up this case, grab our Ohana and Gracie and then get married" She commented. Steve nodded as he came to his feet and looked around him, his gaze focused on Danni as she collected their rubbish and threw it away, the normality of the action jarring for a second as though their previous conversation had never happened. For a moment he wondered whether it had or whether he had imagined it all, especially when she took off both rings from her fingers and selected the wedding ring, passing it to him before she slipped the engagement ring back on. "You should keep hold of that for the time being" She remarked before she picked up her bag and headed towards the exit.

Steve grinned, slipping it safely into his pocket before he followed her.

They might not be getting married in the way which he had wanted but there would be plenty of time for him to plan something incredible when they renewed their vows in front of their families and friends.

The only thing which mattered to him right now was that by the end of the day, Danni would be his wife, everything else he could deal with later.

Until then they had work to do.
