Beast Boy only just managed to drag himself out of bed, glaring at the clock. 5 A.M. Ugh. It would all be worth it, though, when he finally managed to get up before Raven, and thus have time to put his master plan into motion. He padded down the hallway as a cat, paws making as little noise as possible.
Every morning, Beast Boy knew, Raven woke up at five-thirty, showered, and then went into the kitchen to make herself a cup of tea with one spoonful of sugar, two if she had had more trouble than usual getting out of bed (A long mission the night before had done the job of making it one of those days).
Beast Boy glanced around the kitchen before turning back to his human form. He didn't hold back a chuckle as he opened a cabinet and pulled out the sugar.
And the salt.
Raven was totally going to regret ignoring him for the past week, he decided as he switched the containers.
Beast Boy was torn between buzzing with excitement and falling asleep on his feet when the sorceress finally joined him in the kitchen. She yawned, stretched, and then raised an eyebrow. "You're up early," she remarked.
"Yup," Beast Boy replied. 'Buzzing with excitement' was beginning to pull ahead.
"You're up really early," Raven repeated, eyes narrowing suspiciously. Beast Boy immediately tried to reign in his excitement. He apparently succeeded well enough, because while Raven's eyes continued to track him across the kitchen, she continued with her morning routine.
Including making her cup of tea, with two scoops from the sugar container. Beast Boy fought the look of triumph off of his face as Raven sat down facing him at the counter. She took a huge gulp of the concoction.
And then she paused. Beast Boy tried to fight down his snickers. Raven held eye contact for a moment, raising an eyebrow.
And then, holding the changeling's gaze, she took another sip.
Beast Boy's jaw dropped as Raven finished the cup, without so much as a flinch at the taste. When it was gone, she lowered the cup with a smirk.
"Good try, Beast Boy," she said, sweeping past him and into the common room. "Just try to remember, I am the alpha here." Beast Boy watched her go with wide eyes. Turning back around, he stuck a finger into the sugar container and tasted it. It was sweet.
"When could she possibly have time to switch them ba-" Beast Boy muttered, and then realization dawned. "Magic," he growled. He could practically hear Raven's smug silence in the other room. "I can't use my magic for petty reasons, Beast Boy!" He mocked in a falsetto that sounded nothing like Raven.
"I said 'You can't use my magic for petty reasons," she retorted. "And there is nothing petty about establishing dominance over little green twerps."
And that was a challenge if Beast Boy ever heard one. He mulled over how to get her back as he made his own breakfast, pouring sugar over his cereal as usual. He took a bite and then immediately spit it back out.
Salt.
