Chapter 8

I apologise for abandoning this for so long. I got caught up with University as well as work and only found time to read stories rather than write them. But on the bright side, if any of you like Harry Potter please go and check out my Fic. Also, on the bright side. I've finished my degree. I'm now doing Post Graduate. Wish me luck.

Previously:

As we walked in to this town I had a strange image of a boat on its side and something pink dragging me but I ignored it.

After meeting the employer, we split up into our groups.

Laxus and I were walking down the street. We needed to find the jewellery shops, the only problem was that I couldn't remember and he never really had anything to do with them.

"Maybe we can look for someone who might know where one is?" I suggested.

Laxus looked slightly uncomfortable, "We'll just look around, I'm sure we'll run into one"

"What's wrong with asking for directions? Is this the thing Lisanna and Mira we're saying about men and directions?" I enquired. Mira was complaining to Lisanna about how men never ask for directions. It made no sense to me, but then again, I'm not a man.

"Don't listen to those to gossips. That's just a stereotype. It has nothing to do with that. I just don't want people to start gossiping about being a couple. The last thing we need is an article by that idiot Jason." Laxus explained to me while still looking around.

I still failed to see how that mattered. People were probably going to think that if they saw us walk into a jewellery store together. I saw that Laxus wasn't going to change his mind and so I let it be.

We walked a bit farther down the street, it wasn't as busy as I thought a harbour town would be but despite this, I still had to dodge a few people. At the end of the walkway you could see the sea, you could smell it more than anything. It made my nose run a little.

"Are you crying?" Laxus sounded rather panicked. If I'm completely honest, it was rather amusing. I smiled up at him.

"Nope, my nose is all runny because of the salt" Laxus looked relieved. I looked around and saw what looked like a jewellery stand. After I brought it to Laxus' attention we headed straight over. Unfortunately, the man had never seen the amulet, but it wasn't a total loss as he did point us in the right direction.

"See, now we know where to go, and he didn't assume anything" I smiled up at Laxus. He looked down at me with an exasperated expression on his face. I simply smiled and walked on ahead. I suddenly had flashes of a man in a purple cloak with fire and a boat. I felt rather off balance this time and felt myself falling. I put my hands out too late and closed my eyes waiting for the impact. After a few painless seconds I opened my eyes to find my elf hovering over the ground.

"What's wrong? Are you okay?" Laxus asked as he pulled me up. After thanking him for catching me, I explained what had happened as best I could. To be perfectly honest I didn't really understand what had happened myself.

"Hmm, sounds like the story flame brain told the guild once. I can't remember the details to be honest. You might have better luck asking Natsu." Laxus told me while scratching his head and looking up as if he was trying to remember what Natsu has said.

"It's fine, let's just get the mission over with, we don't want to be the only ones who haven't done what they were supposed to." I said with a smile.

As we walked, I couldn't help but think about what I saw. I tried to rack my brain to see of anyone in the guild wore purple. My mind brought up the image of Bixslow, but he didn't wear a cape, nor did he use fire. Macao used fire and wore purple but I had a gut feeling that it wasn't him.

"Hey, stop thinking so hard about it, you'll get a headache again" I was brought out of my thoughts by Laxus who was looking at me with a concerned face.

I honestly didn't know what the few members of the guild were on about. They told me that he was gruff, abrasive and rude, but the man here with me was anything but. Sure, he was rough around the edges, but all in all he was very sweet and obviously cared about his friends and family. To top it all off, he wasn't to bad to look at I thought with a blush. Although it was embarrassing, it was true.

We turned into a pawn shop that held all sorts of items. After explaining our mission, the gentleman told us that he had indeed seen the item before.

"You Have?! That's great! Would you mind showing it to us so that we could make sure that it's the right one?" I exclaimed excitedly. This mission would be easier than I thought.

"Well you see, a couple of weeks ago we had a break in and a bunch of the boxes in the back got stolen. Unfortunately, the amulet was in one of them and none of the items have turned up yet. We still don't know who did it, but I do suspect an ex-employee of mine." There goes that thought about it being an easy mission.

After getting the name of the employee we left the shop to meet up with the others. I was having mixed feelings at the moment and I didn't know why. On the one hand I was frustrated because of the metaphorical spanner in the works that was the amulet being stolen but on the other I was happy that I got to spend time with Laxus and everyone. They had been nothing but kind to me and I only hoped that I would be able to repay them one day.

"How are we going to find them? There's no way we can find them all quickly" We were probably scattered across the town and despite the fact that the town was small, finding them all would be a bit of a pain.

Laxus smirked and gave me the very informative answer of "you'll see". He took me to the edge of town and gave me the fright of my life when he shot a bolt of lightning up into the sky.

"Was that really necessary?! You gave me a heart attack!" I shouted at him, but in all fairness, he could have given me a heads up!

Laxus just burst out laughing, not a chuckle but a full out laugh, which, of course just made me madder. On the other hand, it was nice to see him happy.

"If I did that, I wouldn't have gotten to see your face" he was still laughing.

After a while of our bickering we noticed that everyone was watching us with amused expressions on their faces. Well let's be honest here, Laxus probably knew that they were there already.

I turned to them feeling embarrassed.

"We found out that the amulet was sold to a pawn shop. The only problem is that it was stolen along with a whole bunch of items." I explained to them.

"Well isn't that just perfect" Evergreen was anything but pleased with this development.

"The owner has a feeling that it was one of the employees he fired after he caught him taking cash from the register" Laxus explained to them as he led the way to where we were told the employee lived.

"Are we just going to ignore what was happening before we arrived" I heard Bixslow say from behind us.

"Yes" was all Laxus said. We followed him as a laughed.
