Anakin Skywalker could feel the distress of his friend, even as he danced with his wife. It was something they did from time to time. With the capture of Mara Jade, the Empire hadn't attacked, and Anakin enjoyed time with his family when there were lulls in activity. His little girl had found the same kind of love with her childhood sweetheart as Anakin had found with his only love. Anakin sung softly to his wife the lyrics of the love ballad that was playing.
"It's a little bit funny, this feelin' inside
I'm not one of those who can easily hide
I don't have much money, but boy, if I did
I'd buy a big house where we both could live," Anakin song softly, as he twirled his beautiful wife around the mess hall. The black dress she was wearing flared out, as he twirled her back into his arms. He loved how perfect and small she felt in his arms. Even after all these years, he had never fallen out of love, never even considered loving anyone else. He could feel the eyes of the Rebellion on him. Sometimes it was good to let loose and show his men that the big bad commander had a soft side, that he could let loose and unwind. Anakin wondered what he could do about Mara Jade. He would do anything to bring her back to the light and restore the light in Obi-Wan's eyes. He would do anything to see his daughter's marriage protected.
"If I was a sculptor, but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a travelin' show
Oh, I know it's not much, but it's the best I can do
My gift is my song and this one's for you," Anakin continued, looking deep into the brown eyes of his wife.
"Oh, Ani," Padme said just before his lips descended upon hers. Anakin lost himself in their kiss, having forgotten they had an audience until he heard the clapping. He met the blue eyes of his eldest son and noticed the scarlet flame of his cheeks. Luke's parents had once again embarrassed him. Anakin had no intention of embarrassing his son, but when he was with his wife, time stood still.
Anakin watched as his captain, Rex led his former padawan to the floor. Padme was exquisite, Anakin thought, just like the day he had married her. Anakin kissed his wife's hand and felt the pull of his former mentor. He was in a lot of pain, and Anakin wasn't sure how to ease it.
"I'll be right back, sweetheart," Anakin told his wife, as he kissed her lips once more.
"You two made quite a scene," Anakin heard behind him. "Perhaps this is why the Jedi had the no attachment rule," Obi-Wan said with a sigh.
"My daughter is married, and I hope to see all my children as happy as we are, but more than their happiness I want to see you happy, Obi-Wan," Anakin said, looking into the sad, gray eyes of his mentor.
"Oh, Anakin, I'll be alright," Obi-Wan said as he sipped on the brandy in his hands.
"You've always been like a father to me, Obi-Wan," Anakin told him, as he poured him a brandy himself. Unlike Obi-Wan, Anakin didn't feel the need to drink, he was just keeping his friend company.
"Maybe that's the problem, Anakin, "Obi-Wan said, turning on the barstool toward Anakin, "She says I put your happiness above hers. My own daughter," Obi-Wan said, as he sighed. "You are the Chosen One. It was important to keep you alive, and away from evil, from the dark side," Obi-Wan continued. "Did I neglect her?"
"No more than I neglected my own children," Anakin told him. "We have a galaxy to save. We had a rebellion to form, and we have an Empire to take down. You have done nothing wrong," Anakin said. "I wouldn't be the man I am today if it wasn't for you," Anakin told him.
"Thanks, Anakin," Obi-Wan told him, "If only I hadn't gotten captured, then she wouldn't be serving the Empire," he added.
"Come on, let's go see her," Anakin said as he led Obi-Wan out of the mess hall and toward the room they were keeping Mara in.
