...

It was supposed to have been a boring day. She would have sworn that it would have been a boring day. But instead, Father insisted on dragging them around the country like they were on the run from the law. Bailey Dursley wasn't so sure what was so bloody terrifying about a bunch of letters, but whatever it was had her parents spooked.

Bailey sat on the musty once overstuffed armchair with her legs crossed. She couldn't sleep. Not that one could really blame her, what with Dudley's snores and the waves crashing against the rocks. This was probably the most miserable night in her existence...or at least in the top ten most miserable nights.

In the corner of her eye she saw Harry move from his spot on the dirt floor. "You awake?" Bailey whispered.

"Yeah. You?" Harry whispered back.

Bailey looked at him pointedly for a moment before she realized that he couldn't see her. "Yeah," she responded almost as an afterthought. She then sighed and leaned her head back against the chair hoping that sleep would come. She was almost asleep when Harry's watch began to beep.

"Are you kidding me?" Bailey groaned. "I was almost asleep." But when she glanced down, she found Harry blowing out fake candles he had drawn in the sand and sighed. She couldn't really fault him for that. While Bailey was usually an afterthought on Dudley's birthday, Harry was practically non-existent in their world. "Happy Birthday, Harry," Bailey whispered.

The words barely escaped her mouth when there was a pounding at the door. Bailey's eyes widened in horror. No one should be knocking at the door. Not in this storm. Not when they were supposed to be the only ones on the island. Terrified beyond belief, Bailey's flight reaction kicked in and she raced upstairs to where her parents were sleeping.

Bailey squealed as she lept into her parents' bed. She knew her parents would appreciate her actions, but it all she could think of doing to save herself. Mother immediately awoke. It took a second for her to register Bailey's actions, but when she did, she tried to push Bailey out of the bed. "Out! Get ou!" Mother hissed, but Bailey clung to her mother's arm.

She accidentally kicked her father, causing him to awaken. Father groaned and grumbled. He was about to pull Bailey from the bed when The sound of the door crashing down rattled upstairs. The three Dursleys in the bed froze. But the second Dudley's cries echoed from downstairs, Mother and Father practically flew out of the bed and ran downstairs forgetting all about Bailey.

Bailey buried herself beneath the blankets and started to sing to herself, drowning out the sounds downstairs. She heard the sound of a gun go off, but other than that, the only sound she heard was her own singing. She sang about the doggie in the window, old MacDonald and his farm, the old lady who swallowed a fly, the wheels on the bus. She had barely started on the Itsy Bitsy Spider when she felt a hand gently shaking her.

"Bailey. Bailey." Harry whispered. "Bailey, it's safe to come out."

"No. No. No." Bailey whimpered.

"Bailey, there's someone here who wants to meet you."

Bailey poked her head out from the blanket and looked at her cousin quizzically. "Me?"

Harry smiled at her. "Yes you."

"Who would want to see me? No one ever wants to see me."

"Come and see." Harry held his hand out toward his cousin. Bailey was still rather skeptical, but she accepted his hand, still wearing the blanket-it was a layer of security that wouldn't really do much, but it made her feel safer nonetheless.

Bailey walked down the stairs holding on Harry's hand. She found her brother backed in a corner sulking, her parents hovering around him. Mother made eye contact with her and while Bailey and her mother had never had the best relationship, Bailey couldn't remember seeing such a cold expression directed her way before. "Harry, what's going on?" Bailey whispered.

"You'll see," Harry offered his cousin.

There was a rather large man seated on the sofa Dudley had once been sleeping on. The man was so big that the sofa slumped in the middle. Bailey's grip on Harry's hand tightened. She glanced at her cousin with eyes wide. "It's okay," Harry reassured her.

Bailey shook her head.

But Harry pulled her along. They stopped in front of this strange man, who was roasting hot dogs over a now roaring fire. Strange. How had he gotten a fire like that? And where did those hot dogs come from? But before she could have her questions answered, Harry said, "This is Bailey."

"Nice ter meet yer, Bailey," the man said with a gentle smile on his face. "I'm Rubeus Hagrid, Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I'm guessing yeh've never heard of me before."

Bailey tightened the blanket around herself, so that only her small face could be seen. She then shook her head.

"Doesn't surprise me with this lot," the man named Hagrid said. "I'm here to tell yeh that…"

"Bailey, come here now!" Mother called her, interrupting the man. Bailey glanced back at her mother, but Harry put himself in Bailey's line of sight and shook his head.

"You're gonna want to hear what Hagrid has to say," Harry said.

"We forbid you from telling her!" Father hissed. "Bailey, come here, darling. That man wants to hurt you...to take you from us."

"You forbid me, eh?" Hagrid pointed his umbrella at Father. Bailey's brow furrowed in confusion but Father's face whitened as he backed further into the corner. Hagrid chuckled. "That's what I thought. Now, Bailey Dursley, you have a choice to make. Do you want to hear what I have to tell yeh?"

Bailey looked at her parents, both of them shaking their heads as Dudley cried in their arms. She looked at Harry who was nodding enthusiastically. She then looked at Hagrid. He didn't seem like he wanted to hurt her. His eyes looked kind. But she was still rather terrified as the worst possible scenarios ran through her head. Slowly, with the blanket still wrapped tight, she nodded her head, which made Hagrid smile.

"Bailey Dursley, yer a witch," Hagrid said with a grin. "And yeh've been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry."
