Lost in the Forest

Chapter 8: Beginning of a Protector

Time for another chapter of Lost in the Forest. I won't take too much of your time so I'll see you guys at the end.

1 year ago:

Max looked around the forest on top of a tree branch. The forest was calm today and hardly anyone in sight. Max took a big breath of fresh air. Man, I'm glad today is quiet. Max thought as he looked at the sun which was beginning to rise. Max watched it and remembered a saying, "There's never one sunrise the same or sunset the same." Max didn't know where he got it from but he really liked it for some reason.

Max then got interrupted by a vibration on his belt. Max reached down and pulled out a small phone for Pokèmon to use with their small paws, at least the ones with paws. Max saw that it was Officer Jenny calling him. Max sighed and hit the green button on the screen. Officer Jenny then popped up on the screen. "What is it?" Said, Max with an annoyed expression on his face.

"Max I know that you like your alone time, but you can come into the Safe House whenever you like." Officer Jenny said to him hoping that he will accept her offer this time.

Max was starting to get annoyed with her, she kept on asking him to come and join them in the safe house every day. "You know exactly why I can't do that."

"Look, I know you want to stay out and protect the other Pokèmon, but you need your rest." It is true Max hasn't rested well ever since he got here, but he also thinks that Officer Jenny is worrying too much about him. "Can't you allow us to help you for once? It is the least we can do for all the things you've done."

"Hey, you were the guys who sent me here to help in the first place. So I'm going to protect this forest even if it kills me." Max has only been here for a month now and he really wanted to get this job done so he could go back into hiding.

Jenny then does a sad sigh and says, "That's what I'm afraid of." Then Jenny ended the call giving up trying to convince him. Max then puts the phone back in his belt and goes back to looking at the sun. Max really thought Jenny had a good heart, but he had a job to do and he is not taking a break yet.

Max then jumps off the branch and lands on another he then used his agility to keep jumping and swinging off branches. Max kept on going until he got to his home, which was a little tree house. Max kept a lot of stuff in there, like extra arrows, food, and equipment that he may need for survival. He was about to go in until he heard a scream.

Max sighed and took out his bow and an arrow with a rope on it and shot it at a tree nearby the sound. Max then put the bow on top of the rope and started to slide down. Once he landed on the tree he looked down to see two robots that were next to a Charmander. Max looked at the frightened Charmander carefully and figured out it was just an infant about 2 months old from what Max can see.

The Charmander was getting frightened by the robots. He has never seen anything like them, and it was freaky to him. Then all of the sudden Max jumped down from the tree that he was on and shot an arrow at the robot on the left, which electrocuted it and fried its circuits. The other robot saw this and swung its arm at Max which he dodges and the arm slammed the ground leaving a crater. Max then shoots another arrow at the robot which did the same thing as the other one.

Max once done put away his bow and went towards the kid. The Charmander flinched and went backward when Max came closer to him. "Don't worry kid I'm not going to hurt ya." Max said in a caring voice. The Charmander just sniffled and started to cry. "Are you alright kid?" The Charmander shook his head no. Max knew this kid must have been through a lot, and he wondered why his parents aren't around. "Kid where are your parents?" This seemed to upset the young Charmander more and he started to bawl more tears. Max then realized what had happened to his parents. "I'm sorry kid, I know what it is like to lose someone you care about."

The Charmander kept sniffing as tears kept rolling down his cheek. "Why did this happen to me?" Charmander said in between sobs. Max felt bad for the kid, and didn't know what to say to him. He was afraid he would make it worse. "Why, why, why?" The Charmander started to get louder.

"I don't know kid." Charmander then started bawling hard again. Max didn't know what to do in this situation he has never took care of a kid before and this is the first one he safed that has said his parents died. Max knew the only thing that this kid needed is to be comforted, so he went next to him and bring him into a comfortable hug. The Charmander was surprised but accepted the hug. The Charmander whimpered and cried on Max's shoulder, while Max was trying to calm him down with caring whispers. The Charmander started to cease his crying and was now doing small whimpers and sniffles. Max then broke the hug and put his hands on the young ones shoulders. "Can you walk? I need to bring you somewhere safe." The Charmander nodded and started getting up slowly.

Then Max held out his paw and allowed the Charmander to hold it. Max then led the Charmander through the forest wondering what he will do with the kid once he gets to the Safe House. The first part of the walk was silent, but after a few moments the kid started asking him a lot of questions. "Why do you have a bow?" "Why don't you use your electric attacks?" "Why do you speak English?"

Max was starting to get annoyed and said, "Kid I know you mean well with your questions, but can you please stop."

The Charmander then closed his mouth and said in a whisper, "Sorry mister."

Max sighed and said, "It's okay kid I'm not mad at you for having questions. It's just now is not the time for them." Max and Charmander then continued walking in silence.

Max continued thinking about the situation he is in. The kid is still young and needs a guardian to take care of him and love him. Max couldn't do it because he had a job to do that was too dangerous for a kid. Maybe there is someone at the Safe House that can take care of him. With that in mind Max knew what he was going to do with the kid.

The Charmander really didn't know where they were going, but he hoped it was somewhere nice and safe. He really missed his mama and papa. He didn't know what to do now that they are gone. All he could do is hope that someone will be nice enough to him so he/she can take care of him and hopefully love him like his mama and papa did. Of course that person or Pokémon whoever they may be will not replace them.

Max kept on walking and thought it was too quiet. Something isn't right. Max thought and kept an eye out while they were walking to make sure nothing jumps out at them. Then all of the sudden a robot with 4 legs that looked like a Houndoom pounced on Max.

The robot was on top of Max trying to bite his face off, but Max kept on moving his head out of the way to make sure that doesn't happen. Max then used both of his arms and legs to push the robot off. He struggled a bit but then finally got it off him. The robot fell on its side but then got back up very fast. Max was surprised to see this robot move so fast. I have never encountered a robot this fast before. Max thought as the Houndoom like robot started getting closer to him. Max started walking backward until he stopped and realized he's next to a cliff.

The robot kept getting closer and closer than was about ready to pounce on him again, but this time he'll fall off the cliff and probably will not survive the fall. Max had to hurry and take his bow off his back, but he was too late the robot began to jump.

The Charmander was panicking thinking his savior is going to die. He didn't want to experience what he saw with his parents again hearing their screams in his mind. Without thinking, Charmander shook his head and fired an ember on the robot that knocked him off his collision course to Max by a little bit and he fell off the cliff without touching Max.

Max looked at the Charmander with his jaw opened wide. Max didn't know if he should be mad or impressed by what the Charmander did. "Kid that was really dangerous," Max said.

The Charmander was shocked by what he said, but then realized that he was right it was very dangerous. "I'm sorry I wasn't thinking." Charmander then looked at the ground and started moving his leg back and forth. "I just didn't want to be alone again."

Max looked at the kid with sympathy. This kid must have been through a lot, and who knows how long he has been on his own. "Look, thanks for saving me, kid." Max put his paw on the Charmander's shoulder which made him look up at Max to see a comforting smile on his face. The kid smiled back with pride.

Max then took his hand off the Charmander's shoulder happy to see the kid smile for the first time. "Alright kid, we have to keep moving if we are to get to the safe house in time." Charmander nodded and started to follow Max again.

"By the way, my name's not Kid it's Dillon." The Charmander named Dillon said to Max. He didn't like being called kid all of the time. Max was surprised that he told him his name knowing what happened to him and all.

Max then smiled at Dillon and said, "Nice to meet you, Dillon, I'm Max." After they introduced each other they spent the rest of the walk in silence. They walked for what seemed for two hours until they found a hill that had two trees shaped like an "x" in the front.

Dillon was confused about why they were here, and why they haven't exited the forest instead. "Why are we here Mister Max?" Max looked at the kid with a smile and motioned him to follow. Dillon followed and went under the two trees. When he did he couldn't believe his eyes he was in front of a huge door that was not there before. "How did this get here?"

Max turned around and said, "This place is cloaked from machines so that way they will not detect this place. It is the only safe place left in the forest, so I'll be the first to welcome you, Dillon welcome to the Safe House."

Then a scanner went on and scanned Max. "Identity confirmed." A female voice said and then the door opened in front of them. Dillon looked in with awe. He saw a lot of people and Pokèmon working. Some going back and forth, some were on phones and others were on computers.

"Wow, " was all Dillon could say when he saw everything.

All of a sudden a female human dressed in a police outfit and had green hair came walking up to them. She came up to Max and smiled. "Max you came!" Said, Jenny excitedly knowing that she somehow convinced Max to come after many times of trying.

Max groaned knowing that Jenny was going to say that. "Sorry Jenny I'm not staying long." This immediately changed her expression from happy to disappointed. "I am here to drop this little one off." Max pointed to Dillon which made Jenny put her smile back.

"Hi there little one, where are your parents?" Once she said that Dillon's face turned sad not wanting to be reminded of what happened. Jenny looked at him confused why he turned sad at the mention of his parents.

Max came next to her and signaled her to kneel down to him, which she did in an instant. "Jenny his parents are dead." Jenny gasped when she heard this and immediately felt bad for bringing it up. "Look, Jenny, I need you to find someone to take care of him and love him. He is still very young and needs it." Jenny nodded and made her way to Dillon who still had a sad expression on his face.

"I'm sorry for bringing that up little one I just wanted to make sure you had a guardian." Dillon just nodded in understanding. "Can I get your name little one."

Dillon swallowed to get his nerves to settle down. "Di-Dillon mam." Of course, Jenny only heard, "Char, Charmander."

Officer Jenny then looked at Max for help. "He said his name is Dillon."

Jenny then turned her head back to Dillon and smiled. "Nice to meet you, Dillon, I'm Officer Jenny." Jenny stretched out her hand for him to shake. Dillon was hesitant at first and looked at Max who just nodded at him. Dillon then put his paw in her hand and smiled at her.

Max was about to leave until Dillon stopped him. "Where are you going, Mister Max?" Max looked at the kid who was smiling at him.

Max smiled back and said, "I have a job to do kid. It may be dangerous but I'm the only who can do it."

Dillon started to frown because he didn't want to see his savior go. He then hugged Max which shocked him, but he returned the hug nonetheless. "Goodbye kid."

"Goodbye, Mister Max."

Max then broke the hug and smiled at him. "Please just call me Max." Dillon nodded and was about to go back to Officer Jenny when he remembered something.

"Max, you might want someone to watch your back because you should never be alone." Max then smiled at him showing that he understood.

Present Day:

Max woke up from that happy memory. He also remembered what Dillon said to him. The kid had a good heart but Max couldn't let people in because he is afraid that they will end up like her…

Max shook his head trying not to remember that horrible day. Max then looked at Pikachu and Buneary who were snuggling with each other in their sleep. Max smiled but then frowned thinking, I need to get them out of here. It is way too dangerous for them and their trainers. Max then looked into the sky looking at the sunrise. Well, there is never one sunrise. Max thought as he got ready to move again.

That is the end of that. I thought it might be a good idea to have a chapter about Max in the beginning of him protecting the forest. I really hope you guys like Max because have a lot of ideas that will have him in it. So anyways I'm going to leave now, see you later.
