Just something I have had on my computer for too long and decided to write more on.

Place; Dead Zone.

Time; 20? The Apocalypse.

"You sure this is all you brought?" Batou asked. D.Z. nodded placing the duffle bag on the back of the motorbike.

"Why don't you double check?" he said, beginning to tie the bag down.

I did flashed in his right eye.

"Ok, triple check. This doesn't seem like it's as much as we came out here with." There was no response but the sound of boots moving away told him D.Z. had taken his advice. A moment later D.Z. was back, this time holding a small ½ quart jar with dirt and moss in the bottom.

"See aren't you glad I told you to check again?" he asked the kid. D.Z. fished an old smart phone out of a pocket and began to poke at it with one hand. The other hand stowed the jar in a front coat pocket.

:-b appeared in Batou's right eye. The DEX sighed, they were headed back to the city after a week in the dead zone. Which meant a continuation of the fights between D.Z. and, well everyone honestly, to try to get the stubborn kid to connect Annet for more than the seven hours needed to complete schoolwork. There was nothing stopping D.Z. from connecting longer or more often, the stubborn kid just wouldn't do it.

"My head is noisy enough on its own." Or "You don't under stand the meaning of silence." D.Z. would say, when anything was said at all. Which wasn't often, D.Z. didn't say much when in the city, and what was said was short, to the point, and sent as a text via an old smart Phone. D.Z.'s parents claimed it was teenaged stubbornness, Batou had his own theory's about the silent teen, and D.Z. in typical D.Z fashion wasn't saying any thing else on the matter.

The motor bike started up with a rumbling groan and D.Z. gave it some gas, sending the thing racing out onto the road.

"Easy there speedster." Batou warned.

"Don't put us over in the ditch." As expected he got no verbal response but D.Z. did slow down a little. Now a bit more relaxed Batou leaned slightly back and stared up at the gray sky feeling the wind blow across his coat and mask. Suddenly he noticed a tear drop shape plummeting toward the city. For one moment Batou's mind tried to figure out what the importance of that shape was before the world in front of them went white. He felt D.Z. loose control of the bike and grabbed the kid, kicking the both away from the crashing machine as they tumbled down the dilapidated road. Batou trying to shield D.Z. and D.Z. trying to protect the moss jar. Just as they came to a bouncing stop a horrific roar filled their ears and a strong hot wind caused their clothes to flap wildly. D.Z. curled up tighter around the moss jar and Batou heard the teen whimper. Then as suddenly as it came the noise and wind stopped. And all went black.
