Jack Frost awoke, a dry scream escaping his mouth. He must have been screaming whilst asleep, as the Guardians were deposited around his icy bed, shivering, drenched in ice. Jack stared, speechless. No sound raised from his mouth. None at all. He was terrified. He'd had enough. Enough of the cold hands, dragging him down, filling him with despair. The footsteps on the hall. The darkness and fear... Within his soul.

"Mate?" Bunny ordered. "What's going on?" Jack shook his head and hunched up into a ball. For the first time ever... Since he was a little child. He allowed himself to cry. "Ssh. It ok, mate." Bunny reassured. Jack sobbed and sobbed, allowing the room to grow colder and colder at every lasting weep. Bunny rocked him and rocked him. Yet, he didn't stop. He couldn't!

Then.. A voice like satin, lifted his heart. It reminded him of his mother. He wept harder. She'd been left.. Alone. In the darkness. The abyss. Oblivion. What about Pippa? His terrified little sister, he'd left to face his death. Yet... He listened. Glancing up at the loving Tooth, whom treated him like his own child. The one who was always there no matter what. His attention returned to his hands... As, the song rolled on. Guardian of memory's sang, like a diamond, a voice as smooth as silk...

Sleep little Jack Frost,

Let the stories roll by,

As the dreams fade away,

Don't leave a cry.

The creaking on the landing,

The hand on the pillow,

The knock on the door,

Sleep now.

So, my Jack Frost,

Pitch does awake,

But who sleeps a sound,

My little Jack Frost and I.

Eventually, he wriggled down into the clutches of his bed. Lifting the covers way up, he heard the hop of a rabbit, the thump of a man, the shifting of sand and flutter of wings. The Guardians left a message, within his mind.

'Sleep little Jack Frost. Don't be afraid of the monsters within.'
