Hello all. I'm not back. I'm posting because I'm off work and have a sick kiddo with the flu. Please someone review or PM me. I believe I had written a scene on the day of Hermione's birth and I'm not entirely sure what chapter that was or if it was just a brainstorm that I had never followed through on.
April 1978
Hermione exhaled, she looked over at Remus. He had fallen asleep an hour ago. Revising for N.E.W.T.s was all but killing their cluster of seventh years. They stayed up late and woke up early. Severus has supplied the group with calming draughts and a mile sleeping potion. Nothing like what she would take in the future.
She brushed Remus' hair off of his forehead. The act reminded her so much of the nights spent in the library at home. She missed him, her older Remus. The man she originally fell in love with. So long ago.
How didn't we see it before? She thought.
July 1 1999
Hermione knocked on Severus' office door. "Severus?"
"Come in," he called, not looking up, until the foot steps stopped at his desk. "Mia."
She came around the desk and kissed his cheek. "I had tea with Minerva, and thought I would pop in, and see how you were."
He stood, " You need to sit. It was a long walk down here." He held out his chair for us, stubbornly Hermione sat on the corner of his desk. He took his seat back, "How are you feeling?"
"Tired. The wedding is almost planned, there's just one detail I need to finish," she replied, resting her hands in her lap.
"And that is?" He knew Hermione was beating around the bush.
"I want you and Sirius to give me away, my best friend and my bonded brother." Hermione held her breath waiting on his response.
Severus smiled, and pulled her into his arms. "Of course."
The pair fell into comfortable silence, for a few moments. Severus spoke first, "Why me?"
Hermione wiped her eyes, "Because you filled a void I never thought could be filled. After Fred died, I thought I wouldn't have a confidante. Sirius made a place for himself, that's solely his. You had a predecessor Severus and you've always given me more than I ever needed."
He kissed her cheek. "You saved me."
"No, I gave you the chance to save yourself," Hermione stated, blinking to keep the tears at bay, "I wish I could have given you more."
He sighed, "You gave me enough."
"Severus I would have moved heaven and earth for you and Reggie. You, Harry, Sirius, Reggie and Remus, I would tear this world apart for you five. Now only you, Harry, Sirius and Remus are left. The time warp. I talk to Reg a lot, at home. Even as a portrait he keeps me grounded. Parts of their very souls are here for us. I never realized how much I needed you guys." Her smiled quivered.
"We needed you too," he answered.
"I know, I know," she said, letting the tears fall, "I wish I had more time with the both of you."
"Focus on other things. Hermione you're stronger than this," he said.
July 1997
Remus watched Hermione pack, he knew what she was planning. Time was almost up. Remus exhaled, a little over a year and his teenage self would be enjoying the woman he watched move flawlessly. She really had came into her own. She had gained back so much, since her parents deaths.
Sirius touched his shoulder, "All most time."
Hermione looked up and towards them, "I didn't see you two. Remus I have a years worth of potions ready for you. I created a charm to keep them stable for several months without effecting the brew. I have bulk healing potions. Everything you two should need. Ideally we'll be able to check in."
Remus nodded, "Understood. Hermione stay safe."
"I'm coming home. I can't leave you sad sods to fend for yourselves forever. Sirius you need to strengthen the blood wards add Remus' signature to them. You two are powerful and you should be safe." Always giving orders, she had to, so she could stay sane. She didn't want to leave them but her duty was to Harry.
Sirius sighed, "Kitten we'll make it through this. I swear."
She closed her eyes, "Don't be reckless Sirius Black."
Sirius pulled her to him. "Never. I need to see you and Harry come out the other side."
Hermione blinked away the tears that burned her eyes. She inhaled the scent of leather, grass, and cigars. She'd miss him. She knew she would never be able to repay his kindness and the love he has shown her, by becoming her magical guardian.
Sirius kissed her cheek, "Take care of you, Hermione. You're just as important as Harry is."
Hermione nodded, "I will." Her murmur was barely audible. Her eyes met Remus'.
Her werewolf. Her confidante. Hers. She'd laid claim on him. No one would be good enough for Remus.
Remus held out his hand for her. She took it gripping it tightly. "When?" he asked.
"Once the trace is off Harry," she said, "That way we're not found. Safer that way. Hopefully we'll be able to hide here. The wards should protect us. This place is untraceable."
Remus hugged her tightly. He couldn't say anything that Sirius hadn't already. "Come back to me," he mouthed into her hair. Hoping she understood every movement.
I don't want to go, she thought. It hurts to leave you. She pulled away from him. "I'll be okay I swear." She stood on her top toes to kiss his cheek.
