Watari smiled in his chair, his thoughts were of L, the young detective had been with him for a majority of his life and everyone at Wammy's house knew that of all the detectives the old man had worked with, L was the one that he was most proud of, Watari's favorite. The man had practically raised L himself.

There were times when it wasn't at all easy, L had a mind of his own and was not afraid to use it. Though the older never raised his voice to L, his stern, loving manner of teaching seemed the only way to reach the boy at times.

It didn't take long for Watari to break the rule that advised against bonding, L was simply the son watari had been denied there were so many good memories that surrounded L, the first time he shared his strawberries to when Watari was ill and L did his best to care for him.

"What are you thinking of tonight Watari?" L asked curiously, spinning in the desk chair.

"The memories that I have of you when you were smaller. You changed my life my dear L, for the better."

"I also have good memories of you watari, you have always been there for me, even when no one else was. I have never felt like a job to you."

"That's because you aren't. I love you as a father loves a son, you know that much don't you?"

"I do. I love you as well. I consider myself lucky to have gotten to be with you. You are a good man, though I don't know what it is like to be part of a family,I would imagine that it is the same as having someone to care for me as much as you do.

"it's close I suppose. My dear L, I remember the day you came into my life. Now, all this time later, to see you grow into the young man in front of me , it's been a privilege."

"I am happy that you found me that day, and I will always be grateful to you for all you do for me.."

A moment of silence passed between them.

"Watari?"

"yes L?"

"since we have no case at the moment, would you be so kind as to share your memories with me?" The detective moved closer.

"Certainly, what would you like to hear?"

"Something that you have never told me, shortly after we met, you were the one who named me, that much I know, however what I want to know is why you chose it."

"Why did I call you Lovell Lawliet, there are a few reasons for your name my boy, would you like me to get you anything before I start?"

"No thank you."

"Alright, that story begins with you being placed in my care as a small child, not so long ago."
