Top Five best infantry in the galaxy - by MrNotVerySmartPyjack [1]

Anyone who spent a few minutes on my blog will see that it's no secret that I adored ground soldiers the most, more than any other branches of military that exist. That's because without them we couldn't hold any planet or end any conflict, as orbital bombardment could only get so far if you do not want to ruin the planet's ecosystem or completely destroying everything. And for today's I'm going over the top 5 best infantry in the galaxy based on my personal opinion.

A small disclaimer to start with, this top 5 is based not only on published combat records and strength but on several factors that included but not limited to: availability, upkeep, loyalty, and their usefulness compared to each other. And the first factor is why Salarian STG will not be on this list. Keep that in mind as we go for the number.

#5 Krogan Warrior

At the number 5 I placed the Krogan Warrior. Many might be surprised why they're rated this low on this article despite the reputations and achievements, and it's these factors: loyalty, availability and versatility.

Despite their prowess in combat, especially the close quarter, and durability, most Krogan Warriors either lives for the thrill of fighting or gun for hire. The gun for hire part is self-explanatory as no one in their right mind would trust someone who only work for the paycheck and since they'd sell themselves to the highest bidder it make them even more susceptible to bribing, especially when combined with their love for battle and your assignment isn't thrilling enough to keep them interested.

Then there's also their bloodlust, it's fine when triggered in battle as it adds to their resiliency and odd at winning the fight, but it's a double-edged sword as it also prove problematic at time when it comes to treating the injured Krogans who're more likely to kill the medic tending to them as much as they kill their enemies. Not to mention their deficiency in technological knowledge that's not directly related to combat, war or conflict, along with the mindset mentioned earlier means they're unlikely to accept any complicated strategies or tactics that requires fineness more than charging the enemies head-on making experienced Krogan a rare sight.

The Genophage hasn't been kind to them either, if anything, it's another factor that drove the Krogans into becoming gun for hire or lived for fighting in the first place despite their declining number. This also reflected in their training regime. And that's another hit to their score on this top 5 list. And what make them unable to go higher than number 5.

#4 Human infantry

Now at number 4 I placed the Human infantry. I dare say that they're in some aspects the polar opposite of the Krogan Warriors, cunning, adaptable to any situation thanks to heavy use of technology to make up for deficit of number as only less than 5% of human population are in the military. Their combat records so far is also quite promising, especially at the Battle of Citadel and its aftermath despite certain events that overshadowed their contribution almost completely which I'll soon talk about.

Their training isn't as extreme as the Krogan, in fact, it's just regular program any states would've use to train their troops, they even studied and adopted some program from Turian Hierarchy, the most disciplined military in the galaxy for themselves and doing quite well so far, evident in their Biotics training program.

Unfortunately lacks of long-time combat records, relatively low number, and as a relatively new face to the galaxy just a few decades since their appearance, along with many human soldiers' questionable loyalty who turned into gun for hire in the Terminus System, or just flat out separated themselves from the human government, killed the score for human infantry despite their many promising records and recent actions against the Geth.

Now before we go on to the #3 and #2 spots, I must mention that their score on my opinion are so close together that the higher rank only won by a tiny margin, your mileage may vary but I digress.

#3 Turian Soldier

Moving on to the number 3 I placed the Turian Soldier, their nickname as the military of the Citadel Council is well-deserved; solid disciples, a bit more versatile, good number, centuries of experiences, technological adept and combat records, especially during the Krogan Rebellion and peacekeeping missions throughout centuries of Citadel Council era all adds to their score of competency and capability.

Their availability is arguably abundant, as Turian Hierarchy imposed a universal conscription on their populous, combined with their militaristic culture make every citizen a few moment away from combat-ready and reactivation into services. Few outliners exist, but that's not enough to tarnish the reputation of the Citadel peacekeeper.

But their bluntness, militaristic culture also be their own problems; evident by the Relay 314 incidents which introduced humanity to the galactic community along with bad blood between the two species which seems to mellowed out in the decades only to resurface again recently. And let's not mention many other incidents throughout history that they've open fired on newly contracted alien species without warning. At least there's no major incident that plunged the whole galaxy into total war just yet. That's why I placed them lower than the number 2...

#2 Asari Commando

The number 2 spot I'd placed Asari Commando. Before anyone accused me of getting charmed by these female warriors I'd have to point out that there're several factors that give them edges over other infantry mentioned earlier; experiences. While their training regime could be said to be very extensive and take very long time, too much time, making newly graduated Asari Commandos few and far between, we could also argue that from perspective of Asari who lived for centuries at time, this's quite short for them.

Anyway, moving on, Asari military could be said to made up almost entirely out of Commandos, that's why despite they're more of a special force, I'm inclined to include them. And as said earlier, I'd love to take Salarian STG into consideration too had most of their records and details not shrouded in secrecy.

Moving on, as you can see, anything you wanted in a good military; professionalism, training, versatility, loyalty, combat records, you got it in Asari Commando, although loyalty part can be criticized as problem given recent event regarding Matriarch Benezia, we still couldn't deny that they're not brought by money or bribery but stay true to their sworn liege to the end.

Their skill in combat also worth mentioning; after all, every single Asari in existence are natural Biotics, meaning they all capable of doing things normal soldiers couldn't do, and Turian has some kind of distrust toward Cabal - their Biotics corps - stymied their potential greatly and pushed Asari Commandos up the list.

The only true downside is that, just like Krogan, their number are few and far between, that's why they have to let Turian do all the heavy lifting after all, and also the reason why they prefer guerrilla warfare than frontal confrontation Turian usually do. But individually, we cannot deny that Asari Commandos reign supreme in everything. But alas, thanks to the newly appeared number 1 spot, that's no longer the case.

And here it is, we reached the number 1 spot. Brace yourself, this choice will surely draw the ire of some rabid organic supremacist, but I believe it has to be done to shake our society out of our complacency.

#1 Nasod

This choice of number 1 spot is not surprising given the recent largest conflict and greatest humiliation in the century at the heart of galactic community - the Battle of Citadel, and after the official release of data and details from the Citadel Council and C-Sec themselves, it's obvious that this race of synthetic being deserved to be at the top of this list.

Although that official press release said that the example of Nasods appeared in Citadel Station two years ago isn't one of the combat type and many of you will argue that I shouldn't including them, I still stand by my opinion that this is a painful reminder of how much they outclassed us in all department without even trying.

After all, no matter how you look at it, when the Citadel Council, the pinnacle of galactic civilization themselves admitted that their best organic infantry in the galaxy has been outfought by the Nasod's equivalent of construction robots, one couldn't help but wonder how much of a monster the Nasod actual military synthetics will be. And I insisted that we cannot expect anything less than that. And if we don't wise up soon, the Geth may advanced themselves to Nasod level before we notice it and our civilization on the brink of annihilation by them.

Anyway, I'm going covered all the official released data, which is again, the capabilities that their construction synthetics revealed during the short visit we got from them. But as I mentioned earlier about how outclassed they were, this should suffice for this article.

Nasod is what happened when you take, in human term, "Jack of All Trades" to its logical extreme. Hell, these synthetics has the first infantry scale anti-interstellar warship weapon and capable of interstellar travel under their own power, in a frame barely taller than average Volus! Their firepower was also excessive that sending them against anything smaller than interstellar warship or entire military fortress is considered overkill! Or at least, against what we organic species considered "state-of-the-art warship" at the present time.

If the capabilities to be "One Unit Army" is not enough, they also capable of operation that require fineness like special agents; personal cloaking and ability to phase through solid objects that defy all knowledge about physic we have let them conduct precision strike wherever they want, or just try stealing things. No amount of security we had going to stop them from coming and going as they pleased should they deemed necessary. Their tactical acumen also top notch if, again, their equivalent of construction workers can do all this and more.

And if anyone think that with their overkill weapons and tiny frame they'll be weak in close combat, please remember that they're still a synthetic with all the strength, intelligence and super-reflex that implied, even Krogan Battlemaster, veteran of thousands battle fell their bloody construction workers! Oh, and they apparently can paralyze organic species by simply playing music, something that C-Secs and riot polices across the galaxy are trying to figure out how that work to use it themselves to this day.

And before you point out their availability, I'd have to pointed to the relief effort they contributed in the aftermath of Battle of Citadel where they constructed a fully furnished, fully operational ten-stories building back in mere half hour when provided with blueprints of said building and all contraptions required. It means that number isn't even a problem for them - they can turned that same capabilities into brutally efficient self-replicating mechanism of war on demand, producing more of them or any equipment for any mission.

What about loyalty and discipline? They're synthetics, I don't think we have to say much more than this. While hacking is a good counter-argument, these synthetics were savvy enough to at least air-gap their wireless connection from their system, so there's no way to remotely hack them. You have to get into physical contact and hopefully find a port to plug in your virus to turn them against their own, if they didn't turn you into red smear on the floor first that is.

And that concluded my article of top 5 best infantry in the galaxy this year. MrNotVerySmartPyjack, signing off.
