This was from a kidfic meme request that I took from Tumblr a while back, so here's a little slice of a Happy Ending!AU from me.
He had to admit, he was a bit worried at first.
Well, it was natural. After all, it was his little girl's first piano recital, and he remembered quite well how his own recital went down at the start (and his wife would have gleefully reminded him if he hadn't). He watched her walk to the stage, her short blonde hair tied up in twintails, and her little fists still clenched tightly to the sides of her brand new pale blue dress. It was right when she was about to bow for the audience did he see how scared she really was out there, but that worried look in her eyes suddenly vanished just as soon as she spotted her parents in the audience. With her usual bright smile back on her face, she took a bow and went on to sit on the bench that was still a bit too tall for her.
Kousei gulped nervously just as she was about to bring her fingers to the keys. "Did we really have enough time to practice for this moment?" he wondered. Of course, he didn't doubt that his little girl was a good pianist, but he was just so nervous for the both of them that he could feel his hands shaking. Kaori had apparently taken notice of this as well, as she had suddenly placed her hand on his own and squeezed it. "Hey now," she gave him a reassuring smile, "calm down a bit, okay? The stars are watching over her, remember?"
The moment the first note resonated through the hall, it took Kousei's breath away. Every note that came after that, the melody that danced around in the air, it all felt so colorful and vivid, as if all the emotions inside of him had suddenly exploded. He had this proud, almost goofy smile on his face for the rest of his performance, and just as soon as she took her final bow after she finished, he felt the tears running down his eyes.
He then turned to his wife, who had that same tearful yet proud look on her face. "They grow up so fast, huh?"
Their little Kanon was going to be a star.
