Guys, i'm so sorry! I've been so busy working I haven't had time to do anything! Enjoy!
Chapter 20
Elsa had grown up with a sister who had a habit of easily falling for any guy that crossed her path.
She didn't understand it (having only had one real boyfriend and being too focused on her studies to look at anyone else) and often shook her head at Anna's crazy antics. She'd remembered walking in on her sister crying once or twice, and she'd listen to her talk about the latest person her crush had decided to date or how the guy and some other girl had been too close for her liking.
Elsa never knew that feeling, and even with Hans it was mostly overtaken by intimidation and denial.
Jealousy? No, Elsa didn't get jealous, that is until Samantha came back into Jack's life.
Sure, she'd hated the way they were so close in the apartment and how Samantha tended to talk about the good old days (something she couldn't be involved in), but this was a different feeling; one she couldn't shake off.
''Hey, Els, are you alright?'' She heard Hiccup mumbled into her ear, the minute they'd all gotten out of the car.
Her eyes widened, but she soon placed on a smile. ''Yeah, I'm okay. Why?''
''You seemed off in the car'' His gaze followed hers, watching Jack and Samantha walk closely together in the front. ''But now I guess I know why''
''Please, don't tell him'' was all she managed to say. She figured sooner or later at least one of the three would figure it out, and Hiccup was the most observant out of them.
Her roommate send her a small smile. ''Your secret is mine to keep''
''Hey, guys, what are you whispering about?'' Flynn cried out, flinging his arms around both their shoulders. Elsa and Hiccup exchanged looked, both speaking at the same time. ''Nothing''
''Wow, totally not suspicious at all'' Flynn rolled his eyes, finally letting them go. ''This restaurant better have good food, or I'm out of here''
And with that, he walked ahead.
Hiccup extended his arm, offering a small grin. ''May I?''
''Sometimes I forget how much I love you, Hic'' she muttered, before grabbing ahold of his arm.
The restaurant was one she'd gone to years before with Hans in one of his usual business meetings. There were still glamorous chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and a large number of neatly made tables. Just the sight of it caused the three men's jaws to drop.
''Wow, this place is amazing!'' Flynn cried out, watching as a waitress passed by with a tray of shrimps. ''I think I'm in paradise!''
''Are you sure about this, Samantha?'' Elsa heard Jack say. ''This place looks pretty expensive''
''I'm sure!'' the brunette smiled. ''It's a thank you gift for letting me stay at your house''
A waitress came over and begun walking them to their table, passing all the neatly dressed customers.
''I look like a hobo next to them'' Hiccup muttered, staring down at his black and red plaid shirt.
Elsa stifled a giggle, suddenly grabbing Jack's attention. His blue eyes shifted from the two of them, down to their linked arms. ''What's going on, guys?''
''Don't worry, it was nothing about you'' Hiccup snorted.
Jack rose an eyebrow, and Elsa could feel his heavy glare on her. She looked at anywhere but him, she could feel his cheeks burning up, and that was enough for him to turn back and stare ahead.
They all took their seats, opening the menu and putting in their orders before the waitress walked off. There was an eerie silence, something she was hoping her best to avoid.
''Well, I guess it's the right time to say it'' Samantha flashed her perfect smile, flipping her dark hair behind her shoulder. ''I didn't just invite you here to thank you for letting me stay with you-''
''I knew it!'' Flynn jumped up. ''She's blackmailing us with food!''
''No, silly'' She laughed, before clearing her throat. ''I just wanted to give you the news that i'm officially moving out tomorrow.''
Hiccup furrowed his eyebrows, Jack looked taken back and Flynn was trying his best to hide a small smile playing on his lips.
''Tomorrow?'' Jack asked. ''Where are you going to?''
''My friend, Daisy, offered me a room. I thought we could all share one last dinner together since this is probably the last time i'll see you guys again''
''Why?'' Flynn asked rather boredly.
''Daisy lives in Colorado''
Elsa felt a sudden tug at her heart. She could be jealous all she wants, but in the end Samantha had always been kind to her. It would be rather sad having to go through the day without the girl roaming around.
''It was really fun getting to know you'' Elsa spoke, as sincerely as she could muster. ''Even if it was just for a few weeks''
''Oh, the feeling is mutual!'' Samantha smiled across from the round table. ''I'd snatch you up in a heartbeat if I could''
Jack let out a grunt like noise, before making eye contact with his ex- girlfriend. ''I must say, it was nice having you around again, Sam''
''Really?''
''Yeah, I mean beyond my girlfriend, you were also my friend. You were a pain, but i'm glad there's no more tension between us''
''You did break his heart'' Flynn chipped in, receiving a glare from Jack.
Samantha took a deep breath. ''Yeah, I know, and i'm sorry things went the way they did. Believe me, I'm not the selfish girl I was all those years ago''
''Hey, look at the bright side'' Jack nudged her lightly, a side grin on his face. ''You'll have a new start somewhere else, away from everyone else''
''Yeah I guess you're right'' the hopeful smile that appeared on Samantha's lips were enough for Elsa to smile too. ''I think that's what I need the most right now''
The waitress suddenly appeared with trays in her hands, and the joyful atmosphere resurfaced once again.
''Let's eat!''
It was a horrible coincidence, really.
Elsa had been looking over some some paperwork she had to file for work after returning late from the restaurant and had gotten thirsty for a glass of water. She'd opened her door, walking as quietly as she could so she wouldn't wake her sleeping roomates, when she saw that the kitchen light was already closer she got, the more she made out the two figures that resembled Jack and Samantha too much.
She wanted to walk away, she really did, but no matter how hard she tried, her feet refused to move.
Jack had mumbled something to Samantha, causing a small giggle out of her. Elsa gulped, taking a few steps closer.
''Jack, you'll always be my first love''
''And you'll always be mine''
Elsa could see them both turning their heads away from each other, a small smile on there faces.
''Don't miss me too much, okay?''
Jack chuckled, folding his arms. ''Sam, I've lived two years apart from you already''
''I know, I know''
There was silence, but Elsa could almost hear her heart beating out of her chest. She didn't want to see any of it, and yet, here she was unable to move at all.
''Call me once you reach over there''
''I will. Promise to take care and please stay the same dorky Jack as always''
They hugged tightly, his head resting on hers and her petite arms wrapped around his waist. The stayed like that for what felt like eternity, until they finally pulled away.
Samantha looked up, a tearful smile on her face, before lifting herself up and placing her lips on Jack's.
Much to Elsa's surprise, he kissed back, and yet her eyes couldn't look away.
She'd become too acquainted with jealousy, but this was a feeling she'd been trying her best to get rid of completely.
It was the sick, twisting feeling of heartbreak.
The kiss hadn't lasted for more than a few seconds, and yet her eyes had already grown blurry from the tears.
She didn't want to feel anything, she'd give anything to go numb, but it had completely overtaken her.
Jack and Samantha exchanged a small smile, and with any energy left in her, Elsa dashed back down the familiar hallway. She grabbed the handle to her door, ready to burst in, but instead she found herself in front of Hiccup's room.
Walking in and closing the door behind her, she made her way towards her sleeping friend. She shook him lightly, causing him to sit up rather startled. ''Elsa! Wha-What happened?''
With only the light from the moon to illuminate her, she felt the tears she'd been holding in suddenly fall.
Hiccup noticed, grabbing her arm and sitting her near him.
She sniffed, trying her best to mumbled up the words. ''She lied, Hiccup, she lied''
''Who lied?''
''Samantha'' Elsa hid her face into her hands for a moment. ''She told me there was nothing going on with her and Jack but she lied''
Hiccup didn't say anything at first, and instead pulled her into a comforting hug. She hid her face into his shoulders, knowing her tears were probably staining his shirt, but she was too unstable to really care. He didn't seem to mind either, patting her back gently.
Elsa knew she'd be a worse mess had she been on her own.
''Tell me everything'' he spoke, softly, after a few minutes. ''You must've seen or heard something''
''Why does it hurt so much, Hiccup?'' Elsa sniffed, her head still laying on his shoulder. ''Nothing even happened between us, but it hurts almost like we did.''
Hiccup didn't answer; all he could do was rock her back and forth.
She awoke to the sound of two voices arguing.
Fluttering her eyes open, trying her best to adjust to the morning light, she saw Jack and Hiccup standing in the doorframe. Staring around, she slowly came to realize it was Hiccup's room instead of hers, and all the memories from the night before came to her mind.
Elsa was currently laying on the twin sized bed, not without noticing the pillow and blanket that laid on the ground.
''I cried myself to sleep and made Hiccup sleep on the floor'' she thought to herself, with a sigh. ''This can't get any more pathetic?''
''Stop avoiding the question, Hiccup. Why the hell is she sleeping here?''
Jack's voice was faint, but it sounded far too irritated. Elsa mentally slapped herself, just thinking of Jack finding her there.
''I already told you. She was upset about something last night, and I lended her a shoulder. I don't see why you're getting so worked up about this''
''Worked up?I'm closer to her, why would she come find you?"
''Maybe she thought you were a little busy'' Hiccup snapped back, annoyance in his voice.
''Oh, really? What would Flynn think if he was the one who saw you?''
''Nothing! At least he'd have the common sense to realize Elsa's like my sister!''
Jack was about to say something, but she felt too guilty to let them continue on.
''He's right, Jack'' she said, sitting up and causing both men's heads to turn towards her. ''I was sad about something, and I must've fallen asleep without realizing it. It isn't Hiccup's fault''
''Right'' she could see the hurt behind his eyes, that is, before he turned his gaze away. ''Anyway, I went to your room to tell you Samantha's leaving in a few minutes. Wouldn't want her to leave without you guys saying your goodbyes''
''I'll be over there in a minute'' she spoke in a hush voice.
Jack walked away without another word, leaving her and Hiccup alone.
''Hiccup, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean for-''
''Don't worry about it'' her roommate flashed her a smile, watching as she rose from the bed. ''Do you feel better?''
''A little'' she looked down. ''Thank you for listening to me last night. You're a great friend''
''I'm rooting for you, Elsa and my idiotic roommates, even if they might not believe it'' he ruffled her hair, as she begun to walk out of his bedroom. ''See you in a few''
She smiled, nodding her head before heading to her room. Changing into a knitted sweater, jeans and black ankle boots, she pulled messy hair into a braid. By the time she'd already walked towards the living room, the three guys had already crowded around the dark haired girl holding her large suitcase.
Samantha exchanged looks with her, breaking out into a grin. ''There she is!''
Elsa walked towards her, surprised as the woman pulled her into a tight embrace. All she could picture was the hug she'd given Jack the night before.
''I'm going to miss you the most, I think'' she winked. ''Call me if you're ever around in Colorado, it would be awesome to hang out again!''
''Yeah, sure'' Elsa managed to put up a smile. ''Have a safe trip, Samantha''
''Thank you! You've got my number if you ever want to talk about a certain someone'' flashing a smile at everyone around her, Samantha took a deep breath. ''I guess this is our final goodbye. I hope you guys live your lives happily''
''Same to you, Sam'' Jack said, and Elsa bit her lower lip.''Take care''
Samantha grabbed her suitcase, opening the front door and with one last wave, closing it behind her.
Silence filled them, but it was soon broken by a jumping Flynn.
''Alright! Core four is back!'' the man cried out. ''How about we all go out and get some pizza! I know it's morning and blah blah but just imagine it right in front of you''
''Aren't you a fitness instructor?'' Hiccup chuckled.
''But pizza''
''I'm in'' Elsa said, getting a strong side hug from Flynn followed by a loud whoop.
''I guess i'm in too'' Hiccup stated.
Jack let out a dry snicker. ''Of course you are. Sorry, I'm not feeling it today''
''What? Are you serious?'' Elsa stared at Jack, but he refused to even look at her. ''Come on, man! Hiccup and Elsa already said yes!''
''I, uh, I'm just now in the mood right now'' Jack began walking back towards his bedroom. ''I'll see you guys later''
''Okay? I guess it's the terrific three'' Flynn smirked. ''Oh well, let's get going''
Elsa didn't stop staring down the hall until she'd been pulled out the door.
