Long time no see...?

Seriously, I started this story back in 2015 with the firm belief I was going to publish it here but I didn't like so thought of editing it and here we are 4 years later. So, here it is!

Lucy-centric but Natsu is present. Obviously title and inspiration of this comes from Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus.

Insert basic disclamer here.

Enjoy!

is this love?

Wrecking Ball

Life felt good.

Nothing was perfect but things were going pretty smoothly for Lucy.

Fairyz's success was still going strong, she had great friends, an awesome yet crazy boyfriend, with whom she had a public relationship and that was approved by most her fans.

Really she couldn't complain.

But since she was so satisfied, she felt something was lacking. It was stupid really. It was like because she was happy, she thought something was going to explode at some point.

It was at those moment she thought about her father.

The letters she sent were less frequent but she still made important to write to him at least once a month, even if replies never came.

She had heard the company had been in a low; the recession had stroked on every companies. But lately, the stock were getting back up.

A morning, however, she got up and there was a grim look on her friends' face. Erza showed her the journal.

"Heartfilia's president backing down from company"

"What?" softly murmured Lucy, "but the company is his life. He's still too young to retire... why?"

Her friends gave her an apologetic smile.

"Maybe you worry too much" they said.

"He might have took an early retirement" they said.

They all knew the issue with her father. None dared to tell her what she knew they thought: "Why don't you go see him?"

She was grateful no one was saying it. It seemed dumb. It had been more than 8 years, surely now her father would accept to see her?

Yet, she couldn't find the courage to do the first step. Therefore, she was waiting. Waiting for a sign, a letter, him to arrive out of nowhere... anything really.

She had told him in her letters that she had been waiting, that she wasn't mad anymore, and yet nothing.

So she was waiting.

When Makarov called her at his office, Lucy wasn't expecting anything serious. But once she entered and saw his grave expression, her heart squeezed in uneasiness.

"Lucy, my child..."

That didn't start well.

"Your father contacted us."

She nodded, unsure what to say else.

"He's in the hospital."

Her heart sank.

"He asked us to give this."

He handed her a letter. Lucy felt numb as she took the letter from Makarov.

"If you want to go see him..."

"Let me read the letter first, please," she pleaded in a small voice. "I want to know his thoughts before doing anything."

Makarov made a hand sign for her to sit down. She did and slowly opened the letter.

"Lucy, my beautiful girl,

The first thing I want to say is that I am sorry.

I have been stubborn. I let my fears get better of me and pushed you away when I should've hold you closer.

The lost of your mother had been hard on both of us, but I selfishly put it harder on you. I couldn't forgive a world without my love. I desperately tried to protect you from everything, thinking that putting you in a cage would make you safer.

How wrong was I? It made you suffocate.

When I think about it, you are a lot like your mother, kind and selfless. I am sorry I put you through this.

I couldn't be more proud of you. You seem happy with your life. I recently gained the courage to read your letters. You made sunshine in the hard days I've been through and I couldn't be more grateful.

Be well, my daughter. Be happy.

I will always love you,

Your father."

Tears had been freely going down her face at the moment she had read the first words but now, her heart felt heavy.

"It feels like a goodbye..." she mumbled to herself. She then remembered what Makarov had told her. Nothing in the letter mentioned he was at the hospital. She looked up, Makarov looking at her full of worry. "Can we go now?"

He nodded and called for a car.

Lucy felt anxious. Nauseous. A bad feeling was in her guts. Something was wrong.

They arrived at the hospital and went directly in a private wing. The nurse saw them and her expression became grim.

"Lucy Heartfilia?"

She nodded, not trusting her voice.

"I'm sorry-"

"No," interrupted Lucy, "no you can't say it" She rushed passed the nurse who tried to stop her. A doctor came out of a room and grabbed her.

"Miss, you cannot-"

"I can't! It's my father! We were supposed to make-up, to forgive and forget. He can't-" a sob escaped her throat.

"I am sorry for your lost-"

"NO" she shouted, "He can't!"

The doctor tried to stop her but she continued to yell, not being able to hear the truth. Feeling tired of fighting she crumbled on the floor, sobs growing louder.

Makarov was next to her, his small arm around her, murmuring it was going to be alright.

She didn't know how many time had passed, but her sobs had subdued. The reality was in front of her. She had been too late. He was gone. The hospital crew was buzzing around her and Makarov, telling them they had been only an hour late. That he had passed peacefully in his sleep.

She refused to move. If she did it meant it was real. She couldn't accept it. They were going to make up.

She felt a familiar warmth surrounding her.

"Natsu..."

He hugged her even more.

"They said..."

He shushed her. "It's ok"

"We were going to make up, it was going to be fine, why-" she sobbed again.

"The girls are worried," he said instead, "let's get out of here, ok?"

She slowly stood up with his help. The hospital crew smiled sadly at her. "Can I see him?" she asked. They nodded slowly and opened one door.

The morgue staff were there. They took a step back when they saw how had entered.

Lucy looked at her father. He seemed to be sleeping so peacefully.

"I am sorry," she started, "And thank you for forgiving me. I forgave you long ago." She swallowed a sob and kissed his forehead.

He seemed so much older than she remembered.

She longed there for a moment then turned to Natsu. He was looking at her father, as if him too had something to say. She left out a small smile and burring her face in his torso. He wrapped an arm around her waist.

They exited the hospital in silence.

\\

Ten mornings later, Lucy arrived in front Fairyz's manager with a piece of paper.

"I want to record this."

Wakaba paused, then took the sheet. "Lyrics?"

"I recorded a melody on my phone too. I want to do this song."

"Now?"

"As soon as possible."

Wakaba paused yet again. "Lucy, I know you are grieving-"

"If you know that, don't ask question and ask the higher ups. I want it in Fairyz's next album, it's my next song and I want it as soon as possible."

He sighed and nodded. "Send me the demo and I'll see what they say."

She smiled tiredly. "Thank you."

\\

When Lucy got called at Makarov's office, she was sure it couldn't be a really bad news.

"We heard your demo," he started, "we love it."

Lucy smiled.

"We thought, instead of putting it into an album, that it would be a solo song."

"Solo song?"

"Yes, you would release a single without Fairyz."

"What?"

"Yes. A TV station contacted us for a drama tied-up song and the drama is also about family problems. We thought it would be fitting with your song."

"But Fairyz..."

"It's ok. It's only for one song. We won't even ask you a full single. Just that one song."

"With a PV and maybe a limited edition with a making of" added the second producer.

"But-"

"You want that song recorded, don't you?"

She looked at Makarov. "Yes."

"Then there is no but."

\\

Lucy was stressed. She was used to music shows but not alone. The whole process had been so different, it had been disconcerting.

She looked down at her white simple dress. The sleeves were long and it stopped mid-thighs. They had based the theme on "purity" but little did they knew that the dress reminded her of pyjama while a kid, when her mother was still with them and they had all been a happy.

The staff told her to be on stand-by. She sighed. The rehearsal had been ok, she knew they were going to ask difficult questions, questions she didn't want to answer but being a celebrity meant that sometimes, privacy was something she had to give away.

"Our next guest is Lucy from Fairyz!"

She entered the stage.

"It had been difficult months for you Lucy," the MC said when she sat down.

"Indeed."

"But yet, here you are with a solo single. How it came to be?"

She smiled. "As you might know, my father died four months ago. I was in a... Tornado of emotions. I never had the best relation with him but I had seriously the intention of patching things up. It felt like a bad twist of fate that we both said sorry in letters but never in face to face."

"So you wrote this song?"

"Exactly. It seemed like the best way to explain my emotions, but I never thought I'd release it in a single. It just went naturally after."

"And how did the rest of the band reacted to it."

"They were so happy for me that I had find a way to deal with all those emotions that they supported me. They actually wanted to come with me today because they knew I was so nervous!"

The MC laughed. "And your boyfriend?''

"He's being him" she sighed but giggled afterward. "He's been supporting me all those months and even when they asked to change the song a bit, he helped with me."

"Oh, they did?"

"The first draft was really personal. It was a literal letter to my father. But we changed little parts to make it more general and now it can also be interpreted as a love song... But the emotions are still there and that's the most important to me."

"And we are really glad that you've been able to do it. Please go in stand by."

She bowed and went at the other corner of the stage where she would sing. She took the mic as the MC continued to elaborate about informations about the single.

"Please listen to Lucy from Fairyz solo song, Wrecking Ball."

The End

In all honesty, I still don't like it. But this fic is the only set as incomplete and since I had FT feels the other day, I wanted to close it. I really love this universe though. Who knows maybe I'll write more about it one day.

Until the next story! Thanks for reading!
