It was Silri who awoke first. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and looked at her alarm clock. It read 5:04.
The holocron.
Knowledge.
Power.
Kill him in his sleep. Take the artifact. Find its secrets. She had to, she needed power, power was life's only purpose; that was the truth that she had lived for her entire life. Power was what made life worth living.
Then Tyber moved against her, and she realized that she was still locked in his embrace. Thoughts of rebellion quickly became very remote, and then, as she felt the warmth of his breath coming through her hair, they disappeared all together. She sighed.
"I don't know myself anymore…" she murmured.
"You don't have to."
Silri stiffened, swallowed, and then said, "I thought you were asleep."
"And I thought I'd never wake up."
Silri turned over in bed, facing him. "You went to sleep with me thinking that I… I'd…" she looked away.
"Kill me in my sleep?"
"Yes. Oh, kriff, I can't even bring myself to say it."
"I didn't have a choice," he said simply.
Silri looked him in the eye again, "Neither did I."
"Do you know what this means?"
"No."
"Silri, it means we're in love."
"But what does that mean?"
"I have no idea, except that I don't ever want let you go."
And then they let all the confusion melt away in a kiss.
