"Is this all for today?" The clerk asked in a friendly tone, scanning the item.

"Y-Yes," Mei responded timidly.

"Alright, that'll be 800 yen ($8.00). Would you like this in a bag?" He asked.

The women nodded, pulling out a 1000 yen bill ($10.00) and handing it over.

The man took the cash, popping open the register as he placed the money inside, and got Mei's change. He then put the item in a small bag in which he got from under the counter. He also placed a receipt in the bag, causing Mei to wonder why a receipt was even necessary.

"Here you go, have a great day." The cashier smiled, handing Mei's purchase over to her.

"Thank you," the brunette said as she quickly made her way out of the store.

Mei soon arrived home, scrambling through her purse to find her keys. She opened the door to her apartment when she had access to her keys. Mei stepped in, scanning the apartment, making sure Yamato wasn't home.

Let's just get this over with, Mei thought. She breathed a sigh of relief when the sight of Yamato did not appear. She knew that her husband probably wouldn't be back for at least another hour since he was at school, but she couldn't help but feel paranoid.

The women then rushed to the bathroom, shutting the door even though she was the only one home at the moment. She unwrapped the test from its contents, her chest pounding as she prepared it.

Mei did the test, her eyes expanded in utter revelation when the test revealed positive.

Mei sat in her college class, blocking out all of her sensei's words. She couldn't believe what happened this morning; could she actually be pregnant? She rested her head on her hand, facing towards the exit. The woman sighed as she recalled all of the symptoms: Her missed period, and the few cases of morning sickness; (which she was able to prevent Yamato from finding out about) it seemed likely that she was. But she would have to see a doctor to make sure.

The bell rang, jolting Mei from her thoughts. The professor ended his lecture as many of the students collected their belongings and scurried out of the classroom.

"Hey Mei," a voice called out.

"Oh, hey Kazuma," Mei greeted dryly. She really was in no mood to talk to anyone right now. The only thing that was on her mind was getting to a doctor as soon as possible.

"You okay?" The young man asked. "You seemed really out of it today; like you had a lot on your mind." Kazuma was one of Mei's good acquaintances in her psychology class.

"No, I'm okay… just tired," she replied. "But I really have to get going now."

"Oh, right. Sorry to keep you," he said. "See you in the next class session." He waved goodbye, meeting up with a group of friends that were waiting for him by the exit.

I came off as a bit rude there. I'll have to apologize next time I see him.

Mei then gathered her things and left the campus.

As the petite woman left the college, she made her way to Heiwa: A gynecology center conveniently near her school and was within walking distance. She eyed the building as she approached it, thinking how she was expecting not to come to one of these places for a long time. Obviously, her expectations weren't met.

She stepped into the building, seeing a couple of other patients sitting in the waiting room. One was a woman who looked maybe… seven months pregnant. She was seated next to a pile of magazines and began reading one. She had a calm, relaxed look to her. The other patient, however, was a woman that had a look of pure worry on her face. She kept looking around the room, perhaps looking for some sort of distraction as she bounced one of her legs nervously.

Mei then went up to the help counter and got the attention of the secretary. "Hello, do you have an appointment?" She asked.

"No," Mei answered.

"Alright, then. You will be called when the other two patients are done with their appointment. In the meantime, I have a form for you to fill out." The secretary then grabbed a form paper, along with a clipboard and pen, handing them to Mei. "If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask." She said with a smile.

"Th-Thank you," Mei bowed before choosing a seat. She looked over the form and sighed at the sight of some of the questions that were being asked. Of course, Mei answered truthfully to these questions, along with the others. The form took her about 15 minutes to complete. When she was finished, she tried to take her mind off the current situation by reading a magazine and occasionally looking up at the television that hung up on the wall.

Eventually, when the other two patients had finished their appointments, Mei was soon called to visit a doctor. She rose from her seat, following the doctor to a vacant room.

"Allow me to introduce myself, I'm Hiroko Ibuki, and I'll be your gynecologist," the women said with a smile. The woman looked friendly but also somewhat haggard; she looked to be in her mid to late thirties.

"Hello," Mei replied, giving a shy smile.

"So Mei, I was able to look through your form," Ibuki announced, scanning through the form once again. "And everything looks to be good. However, according to this form, it says your reasons for your visit is the suspicion that you may be pregnant."

"Yes, that's correct," Mei confirmed.

"When was the last time you had your period?" Ibuki asked.

Mei looked down at her hands, which were folded on her lap. "I believe it was early May, May 7th."

"Alright, and I'm assuming you took a home pregnancy test that tested positive?"

"Yes, exactly."

"Okay, well I would like to get another urine test just to make sure, and then conduct an examination," said Ibuki.

Mei agreed and once again did the test. She was asked to stay seated in the doctor's office while the doctor confirmed the test. Luckily, Mei didn't have to wait too long before Ibuki's return.

"The urine test came out positive," Ibuki announced as she entered the room.

Mei didn't respond, so the doctor spoke up again. "As I said, I would still like to conduct an examination, due to the possibility of the pregnancy being false. Even though, it's usually not likely. I also want to make sure there aren't any complications."

Mei then had to lay down on the examination table while the doctor had to… investigate her area. Mei found it quite awkward and ended up closing her eyes throughout the entire examination. It wasn't very long, but to her, it felt like ages. Next, the doctor conducted an ultrasound.

"Well, there's absolutely no doubt: you are pregnant," Ibuki announced. She handed a picture to Mei.

"See that black dot in the center? That's your baby."

Mei's eyes widened in awe and disbelief as she examined the picture.

"We consider the start of your missed period as week zero. So you're currently about six and a half weeks pregnant."

Mei remained silent as she continued to stare at the result of the ultrasound. Giving only a nod in understanding.

"Do you plan on keeping the baby?" Ibuki asked. "If so, I would like to see you again for a checkup in about four weeks. Otherwise, if you do not plan on keeping the baby, it's best to schedule an abortion soon, so that that the operation can be a low-risk procedure."

"I understand," said Mei. "But I would like to keep the baby."

Ibuki gave a soft smile. "I'm glad. A baby really is a precious thing, and I'm sure your husband will be very happy about the news."

"Y-Yeah, I'm sure he will be."

"Hey… darling," Yamato called as he grabbed another dumpling and placed it on his plate.

"Hm?" Mei answered dryly, playing with her food with her chopsticks.

"You've been really quiet, and you haven't touched your food. Which is a shame since you've made such a good dinner…" said Yamato.

"I'm just not very hungry right now," Mei replied.

Lies, lies, lies. Well, sort of…

"You can talk to me about anything. You know that right?" Yamato asked, furrowing his eyebrows.

Damn… maybe I should just tell him. He's going to find out eventually anyway. Might as well make it easier for him.

The petite woman sighed as she gathered her dishes, placing cling wrap on them and putting them in the fridge to be eaten later. "I'll tell you when you're finished eating," said Mei.

"Can't you tell me now?" Yamato asked, trying to put on a silly smile.

"I could… but it's a bit of a, um… surprise." Mei's eyes began darting around the room.

"Okay, now I have to know." He pushes his meal off to the side.

Nononononono.

"Well… um…" Mei began. "How would you feel about having a new family member?"

"Mei…?" Yamato eyed Mei, trying to get a confirmation as to what she was leading on to.

"Sometimes, when you have... sex, even when you wear condoms, sometimes they don't work…"

Yamato's eyes widened as his suspicion ended up being correct, causing Mei to wince at his reaction. "You're pregnant," he stated.

She nodded, her heart rate accelerating as she feared his reaction.

It was then that his facial expression began to slowly relax, resulting in a small smile. Yamato scooted closer to Mei, wrapping his arms around her. "I'm very happy," he answered.

"You are?" The woman's hand's nervously made their way to Yamato's back, gently rubbing it.

"Yes," he said, pulling himself away from Mei, placing his hands on her shoulders. "It's a bit of a surprise of course, but a nice surprise none the less. And well, like you said, sometimes birth control doesn't work."

"But one of us would have to quit our job while the other works two jobs to make ends meet. And what about school? Our careers?" Mei asked.

"I don't mind working two jobs if it means taking care of you and the baby," Yamato stated. "And I don't see why we can't keep going school and pursuing our careers. If we need someone to watch the baby, we can always ask Asami or someone to watch the kid. Also, our college schedules are pretty different so I think at least one of us will be able to take care of it."

"I don't know… You're making it sound so simple. And we both know that taking care of a baby isn't easy," Mei said, resting her palm on her forehead.

"Are you thinking… of getting rid of it?" Yamato asked, his expression turning worrisome.

"No, no, that's not what I was trying to suggest. I just… don't want to cause you any trouble," said Mei.

"Mei, it wouldn't be any trouble," Yamato assured. "Yes, it's a little early than expected, but I've always wanted to be a dad. And rasing a family with you has been a dream of mine too."

"Really?" Asked Mei, as she began to play with Yamato's fingers.

"Yeah, I've often imagined us starting a family together," Yamato chuckled, scratching the back of his neck.

"Me too," said Mei with a faint blush, a smile on her face.

Yamato leaned in, giving a tender and quick kiss on Mei's nose. "Don't worry, we'll figure everything out."

"I hope so," Mei breathed.

"We will," he assured. "Which reminds me," Yamato gently laid his hand on his wife's stomach.

"Guess we'll have to start coming up with names and make the apartment more baby friendly."

"The apartment yes, but the names seem a little early to me," said Mei.

"Maybe, but it's just a nice thing to talk about."

She giggled. "I guess you're right."

"So, you looking forward to getting a big belly and awkward food cravings?" Yamato joked, gently poking Mei's cheek.

Mei playfully nudged against her partner's shoulder, rolling her eyes with a smile as her reply came out as utterly sarcastic.

"Can't wait."

AN: So you may or may not have seen this coming (it wouldn't surprise me if you did)... But this is another idea I've had planned so I, of course, decided to go through with it. But anyway, you can do polls on this website right? Because I was thinking of doing a poll on which gender Yamato and Mei's baby should be, and letting you guys vote. I could do that or you guys could comment which one you would like to see. XD Tell me what you think!
