Prequel to the Hymn For The Missing
Summary: Dom and Letty's surprise introduction to their new lives.
Dom:27
Letty: 25
Letty sat on the quiet deck. Only sounds being heard were the ones of the trees rustling in the wind and the occasional bird chirp. She was at peace while the distant ocean and summer breeze almost lulled her to sleep.
Then a new sound came into play, footsteps. She knew it was her boyfriend Dom coming home from his latest 'job'. Letty dropped out of the job weeks ago when she felt it was getting too dangerous.
"Hey baby." Dom greeted as he kissed her on the cheek then joined her on the deck.
"Hey." They sat in silence taking in the summer breeze before Letty broke the silence. "So uh.. do you remember when you said you would stop doing those jobs if I wanted you to."
"Yea why?"
"Because it's time to stop." Letty bluntly stated.
"What no."
"But you said-"
"I know, I know, I still will but think of all the money we are making."
"Okay money is cool but how can we explain it to my parents. You don't work at the garage anymore, not since your dad's death. I don't work, so where does all this money come from?"
"Letty since when do you care about what your parents think?" Dom leaned forward and stared into Letty's dark chocolate eyes in confusion. He tried to read her expression and get some sense of what was going on.
"Do you want me to be happy?"
"Yes of course."
"Then that was the last one. No more jobs." She sternly stated before resting back into her chair.
"Fine but why are you calling it quits all the sudden?" He questioned after a brief gap of silence.
Letty took a deep breath and paused, looking at the ground rather than Dom.
"Do you ever wonder what our future would be like? Have you even thought about kids?" She spoke as she stared into the setting sun. She appeared to have a single tear stream down her face.
"Yeah I wonder about it." Spoke cautiously as he stared at Letty. "Letty..? What's going on?"
"I mean have we really sat down and thought about what us being together forever means? It means having to grow up and be responsible, and going house shopping, and getting married. And kids, we would have kids. Honestly Dom what if you got caught? Would I raise our child alone? Would they only know your face from behind bars?" Letty sounded stressed and engulfed in her own thoughts.
"Calm down and breathe baby. You know I'm never going back to jail." Dom grabbed her hands and held them to pull her attention from the sky. "That idea of kids and a life with you sounds amazing to me, but Letty where is all of this coming from?" He peered into her eyes looking so some answer she wasn't saying.
Letty sat for a minute in silence and took another larger breath. He gently placed a hand on her face and wiped her tear with his thumb. She turned her face away and attempted to not look him in the eye.
"Letty baby, what is it? You know you can tell me anything."
"I'm pregnant. Mia had some suspicions and forced me to take a test so I did. And I'm pregnant."
"Are you sure?" Dom sat still tossing the thought over in his mind silently which worried Letty even more.
"Yes I took three, are you not happy? Because I understand if you don't want to raise a baby, or stay with me." Letty seemed uneasy, she gazed over at Dom trying to read his face. Dom was very silent.
"I couldn't be happier!" He scooped her up from her spot in the chair and spun her around giving her a thousand kisses.
"Baby don't spin me too much, I'm still nauseous." She giggled out. "I'm so glad you are happy!"
"Then why are you crying?" He smirked wiping away another tear.
"I don't know, these are just happy tears."
Dom placed her down but still held her by the waist.
"I love you so much." He told he as he kissed her once more.
Letty smiled at him so happily then her face fell and a look of worry replaced her smile.
"So what now? Do we gotta tell our parents because I'd rather just run off to Cuba and live my life out as a woman named Gloria Cortez than tell my mother I'm a mother."
"Letty calm down. Don't worry about them, let's worry about us. I wanna get married." He suggested it so calmly that it stunned Letty. She never thought he would want marriage as much as he loved her.
"Married? Isn't that a little soon? I mean I feel like it's just because I'm pregnant."
Dom crouched down in front of Letty and held her hand.
"Whoa whoa, Dom what are you doing?" She stopped his movements in all.
"Can you let me speak?" Letty put her hands up in silent surrender.
"A couple years back my mom took one look at you and she gave this to me. She said one day I'm gonna slip this ring on your finger and ask you to marry me. And I was gonna wait for the money from the next job to come in so I could propose to you properly, candles on the beach but I can't think of a better time than now."
He spoke as he reached into his duffle bag and grabbed a box containing his mom's ring and slipped the ring on her finger while a few tears slipped down her face.
"So Leticia Catalina Ortiz, this is long overdue but will you marry me?"
"Yes I will."
"Good because you are stuck with me." He teased before kissing her again.
"So you promise me, no more crime, no more jobs. From now on we are normal people raising their kid. I don't want her to know what I've done.
"I promise. I will make sure my son lives a normal lovely life." He emphasized the word son.
"Haha very funny, it's a girl and her name is Lia after your mom." She deadpanned.
"I'd put money on it." He began to lead her into the kitchen.
"Um that's because you just stole $1,000 from a truck at gunpoint. You'd put money on a turtle race."
"Actually it was $3,000 don't tell Vince."
Letty gasped then hit his shoulder lightly.
"Why take more and lie?" She quizzed as they walked through the kitchen to the living room.
"Mia isn't the only one that had suspicions. I saw your stomach growing before you did."
Letty rolled her eyes at him and his jokes.
"Plus I don't need to pay money to see a turtle race, in a few months I can train you and make some money off of it." He teased earning a gasp and a tap again. He darted off towards the front door before she could get him again. "You can't be that slow already, catch up mamas."
"Oh I'm gonna get you!"
"See if you can keep up."
Letty chased him as he ran and switched directions swiftly across the front yard. Laughter erupted from the both of them as they sprinted across the yard.
