Chapter 1: A New World
The five leaders of the Order of the White Lotus joined the five members of Team Avatar, along with Momo and Appa, in order to decide the fate of the three girls sitting before them.
Azula, sister of Fire Lord Zuko, daughter of Ozai, sat before them, her hands and feet bound in skin tight metal cuffs crafted by none other than Toph, her eyes returned to their stoic mask.
To her right, Ty Lee, former circus performer and friend of Azula. Their current relationship has been strained due to the war and difficult decisions made during the incident at the Boiling Rock.
Mai, former girlfriend of Fire Lord Zuko and friend of Azula. Again their relationship has been strained due to the war and the difficult decisions made during the incident at the Boiling Rock.
Aang believed that Mai and Ty Lee should be let off with little to no punishment, as it was evident they had changed sides prior to the end of the war. He believed that Azula should be put under psychiatric care, but not killed, with the possibility of parole with good behavior, but not for a very long time. General Iroh agreed with his lenient approach, believing that after a hundred years of war, some lenience was necessary. Katara also stood by Aang, believing it to be the best course of action. Pakku had taken his new granddaughter's side in the argument, agreeing with the peaceful approach. Finally, King Bumi agreed that harsh actions would lead to distrust of the new leaders, especially among the Fire Nation.
Zuko, on the other hand, did not agree with Aang's idea. He believed that a harsher course of action was needed. He agreed that Ty Lee and Mai had changed in the end, just as he had, so he agreed they should be let off without much punishment. However, he did not agree with Aang's intentions for Azula. She should be incarcerated for the rest of her life, and he also believed that there should be no possibility of parole and that Aang should take her bending away. Toph agreed with him, seeing Azula as a threat that should not be ignored. Sokka also agreed, though partially out of his hatred for her hurting Suki. Jeong Jeong believed that, although her mental stability was question, there should not be a parole option, along with the fact that she was no longer worthy of bending the element of fire. Piandao agreed with Zuko, voicing his opinion that she should have no need for fire bending and her crimes against the four nations were far too great to overlook.
It was in the middle of this argument when the light hit them. All around them, a blinding white light erupted in the room, and every person present blacked out.
…
He was happy for the earth beneath his body when he woke up. He heard the voices around him and immediately pushed against it, using it to push him up onto his feet into a fighting stance. He looked down to see the girl at his right foot, and the animal at his left, stepping forward slightly so that they were behind him.
The girl rolled over, her eyes opening before closing again, and she rolled back over as if going back to sleep. Suddenly, her eyes shot open again, her body rising quickly off the ground, her too in a strange fighting stance. She saw the man next to her, and, with a slightly surprised look on her face, whispered, "King Bumi?"
He grinned at her, "The one and only. You and Momo are the only two familiar people I sense here, so we should be careful. There are a lot of unfamiliars." She nodded her head before returning her gaze towards the men around her.
The men around them seemed to be looking back and forth between them and a man at the center, almost directly in front of them. Her eyes fell on the man, searching for signs of hostility. He had red hair, a scarlet shade she had never seen a person have before, almost the exact color of the clothing she wore when in the Fire Nation. Across his left eye were three scars that looked like claw marks. She was instantly reminded of Zuko, and a large amount of worry flooded her, before she pushed the thought to the back of her mind in favor of continuing her evaluation of the man. His eyes were slightly narrow, his black pupils defined against the white color of his irises, only distinguishable from the rest of his eye by the black outline around them. He had a small smile on his face, but not sadistic like Azula, it was more of a smile she'd expect from Iroh. Again, worry flooded her before she stamped it out. He had some scruff covering his chin, as if he hadn't shaved in a few days. He wore a long cloak, his right arm slightly visible, but there was a weird emptiness on his left side, as if he didn't have an arm at all there to fill the space the cloak was covering. He wore a white shirt, which was unbuttoned to about halfway down his chest, showing off his muscular chest and the top bits of his abs, very defined abdominal muscles, she noted. Visible under the bottom of his shirt was a sash, the shade of it matching the man's hair, and within the sash was a sabre with a green hilt, his right hand resting casually on it. He wore maroon-brown pants, with yellow flower designs connected by green vines, which only reached down to about mid-calf. On his feet were simple brown sandals. She returned her gaze to his eyes to see that they were taking a similar route down her body, before they, too, returned to her face, making eye contact with her.
His eyes narrowed, and she felt a strange pressure fill the air surrounding her. She felt a slight suffocation, and felt her stance waver slightly, but kept her eyes on the man. Her fingers twitched slightly as she righted herself, a physical sign of her mind reaching for the rush of water within the trees surrounding her, the condensation that was filling the air, the sweat covering herself and the bodies of the men around her, even the blood and water rushing through the bodies around her, and she was able to dissipate the feeling of suffocation within her. The man's eyes widened slightly, as if he had been caught off guard by something, before returning to their original state and the pressure in the air dispersed into nothingness.
…
Shanks was silently watching the two people and one animal on the ground while his crew argued about what to do with them. He saw as the old man get up, seemingly being pushed up into the air by some force he couldn't see. He immediately felt the change in power coming from the man. If he previously didn't believe that looks could be deceiving, he did now.
The man quite honestly looked insane. His white hair and sideburns stuck out in random places, the only place free of the unorganized hair being the top of his head. He had a white, spiky beard and eyebrows that matched his hair and sideburns perfectly. His right eye was wide open, a dark circle under it, most likely from old age. His left eye, on the other hand, squinted at him from over the puffy black bag gracing the bottom of his eye. The irises of his eyes were a bright green, almost glowing in the dim light of the forest. He had on a dark blue cloak, which was open in the front. Over his neck was a white collar of sorts. His lopsided figure was tall and packed with strong and defined muscles. His legs were far apart, his hands fisted and in front of him, and Shanks couldn't identify which form of martial arts used this kind of stance for fighting. Around his forearms there were dark brown, almost black, leather cuffs that had small silver studs covering them. A similar cuff served as a belt, holding up the dark blue pants he was wearing. The pants had a dark blue, skirt like covering over them. On his ankles, he had the same dark cuffs that were covering his forearms and around his waist, but he wore no shoes on his feet. His fingers were decorated with rings, each with a green gem in them. The craziest thing about him, though, was the smile he held. His stance stood ready to attack and defend, even as he stepped in front of the girl and creature beside him, but he had a huge smile on his face, his teeth being bared to them, despite the few that were missing, but the smile did not look sinister. Instead, he looked ready to burst into laughter.
Shanks flicked his eyes away from the man when the girl seemingly awoke, only to turn back over before realizing the situation and rising to join the man in a battle stance. She saw the man next to her, her eyes widening slightly as she whispered something to him. He saw the man whisper something back and she nodded, her eyes looking over his men quickly and calculatingly. He took this as a chance to eye her.
He could feel a sizable amount of energy coming from her, not as much as the man beside her, but still a sizable amount for a girl her age. Her skin was a beautiful olive tone, and she had long, wavy dark brown hair falling down her back and stopping at her waist. She had two pieces of her hair tied back loosely. Her eyes were a dark blue color, narrowed slightly as she inspected him, just as he was doing to her. Her mouth was drawn into a line, slightly tensed. Around her neck was a blue ribbon necklace, some sort of decorated shell resting in the center of her collarbone. Her dress was a medium blue color in a wrap fashion. It was short-sleeved and went down to about her knees, a slit riding up her legs. Under the dress were dark blue leggings that tucked into her medium gray ankle boots. Her arms were out in front of her, and again he didn't recognize the stance from any of the commonly practiced martial arts forms he was accustomed to, yet it was different than the man's, hers being more fluid and relaxed than the rigidity that his held. He brought his eyes up to hers again, slightly startled to see the blue orbs trained on his white ones, and even more taken aback when she held the contact.
He decided he wanted to test the power of the newcomers and set his Haki on them. The man didn't even flinch, showing no signs that he had even felt the change in pressure. The girl's stance faltered slightly, but she still managed to keep the eye contact. He noticed her fingers twitch once, then she had righted herself and her face relaxed slightly from the tenseness that had unknowingly crept into it. Shanks felt his eyes widen as he realized his Haki had only slightly affected the girl, and on top of that seemed to have had no effect on the man.
Besides him, he felt his men start to whisper. Those closest to his side knew that Shanks had tried to use his Haki on them and that they had come out almost completely unaffected. He decided he should say something before his men started to attack them, there was still a chance that they meant no harm to him or his crew.
He was about to say something when the girl stepped forward slightly, her arms still in front of her, saying, "Excuse me, would you mind telling us where we are and where our friends are? We were just in the palace in the Fire Nation, when a white light appeared and then we woke up here."
Her voice was sweet, yet still stern, holding a no joking tone. He told her, "You're in the Grand Line and I'm afraid that the you were the only two that were here when we found you-" "Three". He looked at the man who repeated, "Three. You forgot Momo." The earth suddenly lifted up, pushing the small creature beside them up into the air and around the man's shoulders. The men around him looked shocked, and even Shanks found himself surprised, wondering what kind of Devil Fruit the man had managed to obtain. He quickly regained his composure and smiled.
"Sorry, my good man. You were the only three that were here when we found you. If you told us where the Fire Nation is, we might be able to tell you how to get there. Is it in the North, South, East or West Blue? Or is it on the Grand Line? If so, in the New World or in Paradise?" he finished.
The girl's brows furrowed as he finished, "Um, I don't recognize any of those names…" she said, the confusion evident in her voice as she dropped her gaze to the ground, trying to figure out what was going on.
The man laughed out loud, saying, "We must not even be there anymore. We're in an entirely different world. Isn't that fun?" The girl seemed exasperated over the man's lightheartedness, but didn't make any move to stop his laughing.
"That would make the most sense, but it also makes no sense at all," she said. Shanks then noticed that they were still standing as if ready for battle. He smiled at them, "Well, I'm Shanks, and you guys are welcome to stay with us until you figure everything out, if you want." The girl relaxed at his words, and she smiled, although reluctantly.
"I'm Katara, this is Earth King Bumi, and that's Momo. It's nice to meet you and that's a very kind offer. I would appreciate it very much if you could just explain to us some of what's happening here and then we could get out of your way. We really should find our friends," she said.
He replied, "I don't know if that's so safe. We're in the New World. Sailing it can be hard for even the best navigators, and we're pirates, so we'd be happy to take you with us from island to island to search for your friends."
Shanks could see the gears turning in her head. The man, "Earth King" Bumi, seemed perfectly fine with letting her decide their fate. He didn't look much like a king to him, but the power coming off of him felt like that of a king's.
Within Katara's head, an argument was breaking out. She realized that his offer would probably be the easiest way to get around and to find their friends, but on the other hand, he did say they were pirates, and the last time she had run into pirates hadn't been such a pleasant experience. She also realized, though, that not all criminals were completely bad. She herself had been considered a criminal while Ozai and Azula had been the 'government', so she couldn't really judge dissenters by their cover. She also realized that, while he seemed powerful, he didn't seem cruel or hostile. If worse came to worse, she would have to bend her way out of the situation.
She looked at Bumi and saw her feelings reflected in his eyes. She turned towards the man who had introduced himself as Shanks, "I think we will take you up on that offer. You should also know that I'm a water bender, and Bumi is an earth bender, so we can fight, but that doesn't mean that we'll fight or attack innocents."
Shanks nodded at her, "Yea, we don't really attack anyone unless they provoke us, so you don't have to worry there, but I am curious, what's a water bender and an earth bender? And what exactly are you king of?"
The man laughed, and just as she was about to answer, a group of men came out of the forest, guns and swords in their hands. Katara noticed they weren't with Shanks group, as he started drawing his sword to attack, and Bumi laughed out, "How about we show you? We'll take care of them!"
Katara moved her arms in a circular motion and suddenly the grass they were standing on was dead and the area around Katara was filled with floating water. She slashed her arms and the first 10 or so men dropped, bleeding, to the ground, unconscious.
Bumi slammed his foot into the earth, and a line of large boulders appeared from out of the ground in front of him. He punched and kicked into the air, and the boulders flew colliding into their targets, taking out the rest of the underlings.
The leaders of the group appeared in front of them, the first of which was a lecherous man, taking one look at Katara and breaking from the other to go "take care" of her. The second man went for Bumi. He moved his arms in a circular motion and the man before him twisted into the earth, arms and legs trapped, his head sticking awkwardly out of the ground.
Katara was facing off against the man and she tried to hit the man, but he kept dodging her attacks, carefully side stepping her movements. Shanks identified the skill as Haki and was immediately worried about the girl, his hand starting to draw his sabre from its place at his side, until he saw her face harden.
Katara was frustrated that she couldn't land a hit on the man, as he was somehow able to predict her moves. Then, her mind was bombarded with pictures, pictures of Sokka being tortured, of Aang dying, of Toph being cut to pieces, of Zuko being torched, of everyone she cared about being hurt and dying. She realized these were illusions, and, although she didn't know how, she knew they were coming from the man, and she was sick of it.
Her face hardened as she forced the thoughts of her friends out of her mind, her arms coming in front of her and stiffening as she grabbed a firm hold of the water she knew was coursing through the man's body. The man's eyes widened, his mouth falling open as he realized he could no longer move.
Bumi had finished his fight and was watching, along with Shanks's crew, as Katara let out all of the frustration she was feeling.
Her hands twisted, and the man's body stiffened, bringing his feet together below him and his arms to his side, his head looking straight forward. She pushed her arms down, forcing the man to his knees and, holding him there with her right hand, she pulled water from the air around her, and threw it against the man, freezing it until his body was frozen within the ice. She relinquished her hold on his body as she dropped her hands to her side, her face hard.
…
…
He woke up on the deck of a ship, the sun high in the sky. He turned over onto his back as he opened his eyes. He was surrounded by people, all of whom were staring at him or one of the three other people lying unconscious on the deck.
…
The captain watched the man turn over and open his eyes, taking in his surroundings. He could sense the power coming from the man, along with his unconscious companions, so he took the time to examine him.
He had longer hair, reaching to around his mid-neck, the black strands falling over his eyes, and the gruesome scar covering his left eye. His narrowed eyes had golden irises, which flickered like flames as he examined the ship. He looked young, maybe in his later teens, but he had a confidence far beyond his years. He had on red robes, with gold embellishments. His body was toned, the skin a pale color. His eyes were focused on a woman across the ship who had recently woke up.
"Zuzu, how nice to see you again," she said. She was tall and skinny. Her hair was down and around her head, falling around her shoulders. Her eyes were narrow and her gaze calculating, the irises a reddish brown color. Her lips were painted red, a scowl gracing them. Her clothing was simple and red, a lighter red over shirt, tied around her waist with a simple dark red rope. Her pants were the same dark red as the robe, and her feet were covered by simple cloth flats. She looked around with a spark in her eyes. Her hands and feet were bound by black metal, looking as if they fit her slender wrists and ankles perfectly. There didn't seem to be a key hole in cuffs, and there wasn't any sign of a break in the cuffs where it could open. Those looking at her wondered how they were put on her and how they could be taken off. The woman struggled to stand up, using the chair next to her to push herself off the floor into a standing position. She pushed her hair over her shoulder with a flick of her neck and set her gaze to looking over the people on the boat until her gaze settled on the man across the deck.
"Don't call me that, Azula. Where are we?" the man asked.
"What, don't like my nick name, Zuzu? And how should I know? I was anxiously awaiting the outcome of my trial and then a bright light came and we were here," she sneered at him.
The crew was getting annoyed at being ignored by the pair, but the captain shook his head, signaling they should wait.
"Azula, if you were behind this, I swear to the spirits, you will end up like Father: in jail and your bending taken away," the man glared right back.
"In case you haven't noticed, I'm a little lied up right now," she responded, holding up her bound hands.
"And you'll stay that way," he said, continuing to glare at her, ignoring his surroundings.
She started to laugh at him, her eyes narrowing, here head tilting. It was the laugh of the insane, more of a cackle, really. "If that's the almighty Fire Lord's command," she spit out venomously.
He walked over to her, grabbing her bound hands, glaring down at her, "Azula, you will treat me with respect. You chose to side with Father in the war, and you will serve your punishment for your tyranny to our people."
A hand landed on his shoulder, "Zuko, please calm down." He had long gray hair, a small half bun sitting at the top of his head. He had brown eyes that were narrowed as he assessed the scene around him. He had a long beard and, what had previously appeared to be fat, was revealed to be muscle. He had on a long white robe, reaching down to his feet. Over the robe were dark blue pads that covered his chests and the upper part of his legs. His neck was covered by a white collar. His face was covered in the wrinkles that formed when a person smiled a lot, but the expression currently on his face was hard and serious.
"We don't know what happened, and if her purpose was to escape, then she failed, seeing as we still have her in custody. Now, calm down."
When he had finished, a groan was heard from the fourth person that had fallen from the sky onto the ship.
She sat up, rubbing her head. Her long brown hair was tied back in a braided ponytail, and her brown eyes were big as they looked around at her current situation. Flipping over into a handstand, before landing on her feet, she stood up. She had on a long sleeved pink top that left her smooth and toned stomach bare. She had on three quarter baggy pants and pink ballet flats.
"Um, guys… Where are we?" she asked, her voice was cute and light.
"That's what we're trying to figure out," the older man said, turning to a large man sitting in a chair in the center of the deck.
Wires hooked around his face and a large white mustache gracing his upper lip. His white hair was covered by a black bandana. He was easily three times the size of a normal human, his chest muscular, but covered with scars, both big and small. Over his shoulders a white jacket with golden tassels hung, and he wore golden pants with a black sash tied around his waist. At his side was a huge spear, and in his hand was a barrel he assumed was filled with some sort of alcohol. His eyes were small in comparison to his body, the irises of which were gold, and they followed the conversation between the four strangers cautiously.
"Hello, my name is Iroh, and I am terribly sorry for interrupting your day," Iroh said to the man.
"I am Whitebeard," the man answered him. When no recognition crossed the strangers' faces, his eyebrow raised slightly.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Whitebeard. Would you mind telling us where we are?" Iroh asked.
The other strangers, with the exception of Azula, the bound woman, came forward to stand next to Iroh, one on each side.
"You are in the New World, the second half of the Grand Line," Whitebeard answered him. His crew was watching the conversation carefully, ready to attack if necessary.
"I'm sorry, I don't recognize that name… but that just confirms my suspicions. I believe we are from a different world, and ended up here by accident. This might be incredibly presumptuous of me, but could we take refuge on this ship until we either find our companions, who are not here, or until we find a way back?"
Whitebeard thought about this. He saw nothing wrong with allowing the four strangers to stay with him. "I am a pirate, a very famous pirate at that. I have the authorities after me constantly. If you wish to stay, you must promise to help me, should I need it."
Before Iroh could answer, however, the Marines had come up to Whitebeard's ship.
"Whitebeard, surrender, or we'll take the girl," one of the men in uniform said, grabbing onto the girl in pink standing before him. However, before he had time to react, the girl had given the man several quick punches in succession and he fell, paralyzed to the floor. His eyes widened when she turned to him and smiled, "Allow us to help you now then."
She started heading towards the men that had invaded the ship, while Iroh and Zuko each approached one of the two ships that had approached.
She was punching and kicking, flipping and jumping, taking out men by the dozens, each of them falling floor paralyzed. Iroh and Zuko had reached the two ships. Zuko breathed deeply, before he decided to let out his frustration and anger by destroying the ship, thoroughly. As he breathed out, the entire ship caught up in flames, growing in size even as the men on the ship tried to put it out. He was furious at everything, and this was the only way to think to take care of his anger.
Iroh called lightning from the sky, sending it at the ship, which then caught in flame as the lightning hit it. Both ships turned around and fled, but didn't make it far before sinking into the sea. Iroh went to Zuko, "Calm down, nephew."
Whitebeard's crew watched in surprise. The girl had taken out around 40 men on her own. The man had set fire to the ship by breathing. The man had summoned lightning from the sky.
...
So tell me what you meet! Next chapter is called Where Are We? and will tell us where the other Avatar members ended up, which will be on two very specific ships! I wonder who will end up where ;)
