AN: Ciao! Sooo, this is my last pre-typed chapter on this fic. I'm not sure at this moment if I will put it on hiatus or simply update less on it. I'll have to see if I can manage typing two chapters each week for two different fics while attempting to work on my requests. XD Anyway, here's this chapter for sure! Enjoy!~
~ Paulina
The bells rings for lunch, but Danny, Sam, and Tucker hang back in the classroom.
"Dude, you okay?" Tucker asks Danny. Sam simply gives Danny a quick hug.
"Let's see, everybody keeps staring at me like I'm the most interesting person in the world. I've had to tell every class to pay attention to the teacher instead of me. I've been surrounded every time I'm in the hallway. What am I going to do, guys? It can't stay like this. Plus, I'm getting tired of awkward conversations. I've already had three of them, and I can tell you there are more to come. I bet I'll get stuck in several just at lunch."
"And you know what? We'll be there with you, Danny. We're your best friends, and that will never change no matter what happens," Sam reassures him. Danny gives her a small smile.
"Thanks, Sam. Well, let's get this over with."
"Good, cause I'm starving!" Tucker follows up. They make their way to the cafeteria, noticing the obvious stares of almost everybody. They see Jazz on their way, but they don't stop to talk since she was surrounded.
"I wonder why so many people are trying to talk to Jazz," Danny thinks aloud.
"Uh, Danny, they're probably asking her about you. People have pestered Tucker and me this morning, too. They all want to know things like if we knew about you before, were you good when everybody thought you weren't, why you do it, how you can do it, or some random personal things. Eight girls have asked for your number, but I not so nicely informed them that you have a girlfriend," Sam answers.
"What did they say to that?" he asks, amused. He also reaches out a hand for her to hold. She accepts it immediately.
"Four of them asked who she was, two started laughing, one blushed and ran away, and one congratulated me and said there are other guys though they aren't superheroes. The four who asked who she was simply received me showing them my hand then understood. None were too happy to be let down~"
"Why did-" Danny starts, but stops as they step into the cafeteria. The walls have been covered with pictures and news articles about him along with two enlargements of his DP insignia. In the middle of the room, as the tables have been pushed farther back, stand all of the cheerleaders. They now all have black and white cheer outfits that have his insignia on them, too.
"Here he is! Okay, girls!" shouts Paulina, who's standing in the middle. The other cheerleaders get into a rugged formation of a large "YES" while Paulina does a row of flips until she's right in front of Danny.
"The girls say my answer to the date I just know you want to ask me out on~" she basically coos. Danny just stares at her, unsure of how to turn her down as easily as he could. After a couple of seconds, she notices his hand that's still entwined with Sam's, whose face shows her rage clearly. Danny follows Paulina's eyes to his hand then looks back at her.
"Uh, well, sorry, Paulina, but I'm dating Sam now, so... yeah," is what Danny manages to get out. If looks could kill, both Sam and Paulina would be dead. Sam still manages to look smug while glaring though.
"You chase after me for almost a year then you suddenly don't want to go out with me?! But I'm me! I'm Paulina! I'm popular and adorable and perfect!" she protests.
"And shallow! You're so full of yourself! Besides, did you ever think of the fact that during that time Danny wanted to go out with you, you had a million chances to say yes? You don't want to go out with Danny Fenton. You want to go out with Danny Phantom because he saved your life. He's saved all of our lives now, though, hasn't he? It's his job to save people. What makes you different from the others?" Sam quips.
Paulina is speechless for once. Danny is staring at Sam with eyes full of wonder.
"Fine, I'll leave you both alone, but just so you know, I don't plan on losing the Ghost-Boy to a Goth Geek like you."
"Maybe that would actually have a slight chance of happening if you stopped insulting Danny's best friends! I knew you weren't bright, but I never thought you were downright stupid." The black-haired girls continue to have a stare-down. Danny starts to tug on Sam's hand to get her to leave it, but she stands her ground. After a few more moments, Paulina huffs and storms off. Sam nods in self-satisfaction then leads to the lunch line, ignoring the fact that the entire cafeteria population is staring at them.
Self-consciousness creeps up on Danny as they're getting their food. Despite the slight difficulty of it, Sam never lets go of Danny's hand through the process though does let him go to hold their trays while searching for a seat. This time Danny takes the lead in the most direct way he can to the very back. The trio sits and begins eating, trying to ignore the fact that everybody else is STILL silently staring at them. After a moment, Danny finally can't take it and turns himself, Sam, Tucker, their food, and their table invisible.
"There are other things to look at, guys! And you're running out of time to eat!" he insinuates loud enough for everyone to hear while keeping the invisibility.
"Why don't we just stay like this?" Sam murmurs to him under the cover of the talking beginning to rise in volume. People are turning away since there is nothing they could specifically stare at. Danny nodded but remembered she couldn't see this and responded aloud. He could still see everything he held his invisibility over, but only he could. This was another new development that had come from getting his powers back (which had been even more painful than the first time in the Portal) and had freaked him out at first, as it made him think his invisibility wasn't working. Danny made his friends' food visible so they could eat and silence ensued. For the entire cafeteria. That is, until Danny let out an all-too-familiar gasp with a visible breath accompanying it.
"Ah, crud."
"Can we get out of here before you go? I really don't want to face the mob sure to erupt, and we can eat our food in peace," Sam whispers hurriedly. Danny almost nods again, but instead simply makes themselves and the entire table (and food) intangible so they sink straight through the floor. He returns tangibility and visibility just before they hit the ground, so the landing is soft then he once again turns ghost.
"Can you guys wait for me down here until I'm done? I really aught to finish my lunch."
"Of course we can, dude."
"You know, you really do need to eat more. You're getting thinner by the day and that means you won't have as much stamina nor immune system a-" Danny gives her a quick kiss to stop her ranting at him. The day after they had officially gotten together, he had found out that to be the best way to halt or even win banter with her. When he pulled away, she gave him a look that said this one wasn't quite over yet. To make him not feel left out, Danny flicks Tucker's hat forward off his head, grinning. As he flies off through the ceiling, he hears his best friend complain lightly.
"Better not be Boxy," he mutters jokingly under his breath just before he gets through the roof of the school and begins looking around for the ghost.
"GHOST CHILD!"
Geeee, I wonder who it could be? *sarcastically puts hand on chin* XD I did leave that sort of obvious for you guys simply because of the cliffhanger I left on Second Chance XD :) F, F, & R!~
